Can we talk to the Chris about getting a good, solid, Internet connection this year? I also want to plan something like we mentioned, go-carts would be awesome! I think we need to liven it up with some friendly competition, outside of cornhole and drinking. :D
-
Maybe this year it won't be 103 degrees outside.

To that end, am bringing a Cat6 patch cord long enough to reach from their office to our our setup and my wireless router. I think you're allowed 300', which ought be more than enough
-
I'll be there as always!
Same here...We can ride together like we do every year

Dayton is always in my budget!
-
Dayton is always in my budget!
The Dayton gathering, for most, is an inexpensive vacation destination. A tank or 2 in fuel, a few nights of camping fees and a few bucks donated to the ice kitty.
The few that donate a ton of time, effort and money make it easy for the rest to enjoy.
-
I'll be there for sure! Chef will be cooking in a bacon thong.... beware the bacon cheese burgers
-
Be careful what you ask for. If it's hot and the bacon starts shrinking..... :O
-
The new Wife will be coming this year so that means no fun for me :rofl <jk>
Might make a road trip outta this one this year again except, it will be for the east coast.
Dayton first then towards North Haven, CT then down the coast ending up in Jupiter, FL before turning home back to Pensacola.

I did that last year and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm not sure if I will be bringing her back again this year or not though.
:uhoh
-

Any word on the Air Show this year since the cutbacks due to the sequester?
-
Website shows everything is a go except the Thunderbirds's are pending.
-
Still gonna come up even if the Air Show was cancelled totally. It's about getting together with friends & family. The Air Show is just an extra option in my book. :salute
-
You guys better hope and pray I don't come :devil

If you do, I'm taking out the other shoulder! :x

OK, for the uninitiated, details please. I may be able to make the trip, only 8-hours away. So we drive up (Tennessee, Ohio is up), watch the airshow then a bunch of drunk AHers get together and swap manly stories about vulching, HOing and other ill gotten behavior? Sounds like fun to me. I can vent about lag and the massive radiator on the Dora.
Am I missing something?
Boo
-
Some words just can't describe the experiences in Dayton. You gotta be there to understand. This will be the 5th in a row for me. And yes, I have plenty of pictures from past events. :devil
-
Did anyone actually GO to the airshow last year?

You are missing a lot. But you have to attend to understand.

I think some of the young'ns did. The A/C of the museum had a better draw than the 130 degree tarmac.

If you do, I'm taking out the other shoulder! :x
I'm gonna wear pads this year. I'm hoping I can make it!
Boo, where are you in TN again?

Just outside of Clarksville, Chapmansboro to be exact.

Perhaps.
Might be going to Bonaroo, this year. That will kill a trip to Dayton...
-
I will happily help anyone carpool or park n' ride. Drive to Morgantown/Clarksburg, WV or Pittsburgh, PA and I will drive the rest of the way. Space might be limited but we can work that out.
FYI we smoke and listen to loud music. :rock

I wanted to go to Bonaroo this year too, wasn't going to work out though.
Nef, that could work. Pittsburgh is about 6 hours for me. If it were to work out, when would you want me in Pittsburgh by? I've looked at bus fares, but it may be easier for me to just drive there.
-
I live maybe 15 mins from bonaroo. If you enjoy a drug induced environment with a lot of naked people then it is your place. Honestly I have never been and I live so close..

We usually leave on Friday Morning and usually arrive in Dayton around lunch time. If we could meet you in Pittsburgh around Midday (1100AM to 200PM) We could make it in time for dinner :)
But there is one catch. You have to bring your avatar. :D

http://www.cantonrep.com/newsnow/x1959349659/Dayton-air-show-appearance-unlikely-for-Thunderbirds
Looks like the Thunderbirds won't be there, but they aren't cancelling the show (which I don't really care about anyhow, FAR more interested in Warbirds :aok)
-
Hmmm...four hour flight in the 170. Think I have that week off.
-
The Wright Patterson Air Force Museum is worth the trip all by itself...nearly every non-Navy plane in this game is in there :aok (and air conditioning in the dead of summer is never a bad thing;) At any rate, you can see the air show from a lounge chair sitting in the middle of the river anyhow, 'adult beverage' in hand
-
Do you think Mustaine will be there? Just Kidding!

Dude, really?
Does your momma know that you are....?
:rofl

Mmmmmm, 2 1/2 months away!

Last I heard, I'd say odds are better than not for the Thunderchickens to show, although maybe for just one day. You can with some confidence though kiss the other (and arguabley cooler) AF demo teams goodbye for the year as all their F-22, A-10 and the other demo teams/squadrons (besides the Thunderbirds) are off the table for the rest of this year. The Navy is in the same boat with the Blue Angels remaining their singular focus and the rest of their demo teams, although not deactivated, I have been seeing pulled from every schedule so far (this year and the end of last year) and most airshows seem to be one-day events atm for them. The Marines (and maybe even to some extent the coast guard) might be our saviors with having no big demo team to fund or as many marine bases across the states, they have still been able to field static airfraft for their events and others, and last I heard their harrier, osprey and rotary demo teams are still active.
-
For me, the show gets in the way of the gathering. Time there is time missed at the campground. Ya never know what's gonna happen in Dayton! :x
-
If you want them to keep flying, get in the gate at least once a year and please spend/drop just a dollar.
Wright Patterson is in a unique position, but they aren't the only act in the flying warbird circus.
Besides, only wimps aren't on the tarmac at an airshow everyday from sun up to sun down.
-
I see the Blues every week.......
Tuesdays and Wednesdays.........
as they practice..................
as my house is in their flight pattern....... :rofl :rofl :rofl
-
Except in the winter and early spring, then they're in El Centro. :D
I drank some beer, ate some tacos and raced gokarts with them at a party a few weeks ago. Great times!
-

I'm looking at go karts at a local place in Dayton ths year.
-
I've been out of game for awhile now and really enjoyed my one trip to the gathering. I will be in Dayton this weekend with the family so I'll stop by the campsite and pee right where nef sets up his tent. :devil hopefully me return isnt too far in the future so I will Be-c-in-hu soon. Rock on my brothers.
-
Thunderbirds...Blue Angels....(yawn) I just like to see the warbirds :aok
-
Thunderbirds...Blue Angels....(yawn) I just like to see the warbirds :aok
Exactly my thoughts, too, BJ! I wish there was be a larger focus on the warbirds and the development of aerial combat. The Tbirds, Blue Angels, and other teams are fun to watch, but would we have those teams if not for the warbirds?

I know we started kicking that around last year. Count me in!

Bad news Maddog:
"Until further notice, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will not be practicing at NAS Pensacola." :huh
More news to follow soon I hope, but looks like they're tightening the belt. I can only speculate what it could be at the moment, but I doubt it will be El Centro in the summer (even though they had vacant signs on outside a number of their hangars) - think 29-sticks but close enough to the gulf of CA to still get humid with a shift in the wind.
Climate
El Centro has a desert climate and is the southernmost desert city in the continental United States, with an elevation below sea level. El Centro has over 350 days of sunshine and under 3 inches (76 mm) of rain annually. Winter temperatures are in the mid 70s to mid 80s with over-night lows in the low 50s to mid 40s. During summer days, the dry, desert heat can push temperatures well into the 100s, while the nights stay in the low 80s to mid 70s. Average annual humidity is 24%
-
Actually Babs... Maddog will probably enjoy them not flying over his house every day. A summer of silence, ahhhhh.
I know I wouldn't mind if CLE were to re-route all planes for a summer.
-

At NAS Pensacola!? You're kiddin, right? :huh
:lol :rofl :aok
Naval Air Station Pensacola or NAS Pensacola (IATA: NPA, ICAO: KNPA, FAA LID: NPA) (formerly NAS/KNAS until changed circa 1970 to allow Nassau International Airport, now Lynden Pindling International Airport to have IATA code NAS), "The Cradle of Naval Aviation" [/u], is a United States Navy base located next to Warrington, Florida, a community southwest of the Pensacola city limits. It is best known as the initial primary training base for all Navy, Marine and Coast Guard aviators and Naval Flight Officers[/u], the advanced training base for most Naval Flight Officers, and as the home base for the United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the precision-flying team known as the Blue Angels. It is currently a Superfund site.
^Just the first paragraph.
The day the skies go quiet over Pensacola is the day Florida has a 2'+ blizzard.

:airplane: Something to it. It's Tuesday and all is quiet on the Gulf Coast Front. :airplane:
June 22 & 23, 2013

One state dinner < An entire season for the blues/thunders, but noooo...
Hello Blue Angel Fans,
The Navy has decided to cancel the remaining 2013 Blue Angel performances and practice demonstrations as a result of the current Defense policy, which states that outreach events can only be supported with local assets at no cost to the government.
Blue Angel pilots will continue to maintain minimum safe flying proficiency at Pensacola, Fla. These flights will be single s...orties and not open to the public.
The Blue Angels are disappointed in this decision but recognize this is one of many steps the Navy is taking to ensure resources are in place to support our forces operating forward now and those training to relieve them.
The team will continue to sign autographs at the National Naval Aviation Museum Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. The Blue Angels team will also explore other community outreach activities near their home station of Naval Air Station Pensacola.
The Navy believes there is value in demonstrating the professionalism and capabilities of our Navy and Marine Corps team, thus inspiring future generations of Sailors and Marines. The Navy intends to continue aerial demonstration in the future when the budget situation permits.
Thank you for your support fans! We will keep you updated with any changes to our schedule.

Once again it's time for a party in Dayton!

Of Course there are plenty of Hotel/Motels close by for those not into Camping.
Camping will be 10 dollars a head per night.
Saturday Party goers only will be asked to contribute to the Campground ($10 a head is typical)
(Many bring Food, Beer, prizes, ect.)

Main Party is Saturday Night after the Airshow.
Hope all the past attendees will be coming back, you all really make it a true party (You know who you are)
Please respond with at least a simple Yes or No and total members in party so I can get a head count.
One step closer. I talked to Chris, the campground owner, and had him put us on the calendar for the weekend of June 22-23. I know it is still 2 months away but I'd like to know who is for sure going at this point and will get an Official post up in a couple weeks.

ok, to simplify the confusion from SWchef, which is still confusing to him, even though I highlighted the problem in question where he was confusing to others, other than himself, the actual posted dates of the "Vectron Dayton Air Show" dates are really, actually, positively set for June 22-23, 2013.
I and the wife-ack thrower will be camping out......again.

Well my friends, though I havent been playing in the past 6 or so mnths I may actually need to make it there this year since it is like 10 miles from me. Last year I got stuck working the medic there at the airshow and oh boy was that interesting with the insane heat they dropped like flies at the end of it at least nothing was to serious beyond dehydration.
-
Yah....last 2 years it was like 100 degrees, few people even went to the show, just watched it from lounge chairs sitting in the river (whilst drinking' adult' beverages)
-
So, what's up? No official post for this?
-
Not yet. Keep your panties on.
My place of employment bought a building a few miles away and the last few weeks have been prepping for the move which begins tomorrow morning.
Even with the moving company running 3 semi's it's going to take at least 2 days to move our inventory with us running 2 lift trucks at each location. The office cubicles and stuff are going on separate box trucks and will probably take 4 or 5 trips.
Next week will be short and hectic but I hope to verify pricing with the campground, unless someone else wants to make that call. (Scott?)
-
I have the alotted time off. I might bring my son, so he can check out the Museum.
