Two issues here:
First, I've got the port vh camped from rear, nme pops out in T-34 outside of hangar, fine (I guess) I readjust and kill him. All the times I've hangar spawned I've never been outside the hangar, and if it's lag - then I've got some serious lag.
Then he spawns in with turret facing me, first I see tracer, next I see his tank and his turret facing me, then I'm in the tower. One shot, ded.
I've heard three explanations to this so far on both issues, as thread title states...
If it's a glitch or trick it needs to be fixed, if it's lag - I dunno what to do.
The trick/glitch part was explained to me in detail about moving your mouse pointer off the map...but I could not duplicate that.
:headscratch:

There's an old exploitable lag bug.
The game updates other players much faster the nearer to you they are. Think about when you're flying and that distant dot moves, stops, moves, stops, etc. As you get closer this stops happening and the once distant jerky dot becomes a fluidly moving aircarft.
To exploit this in a GV you simply move to a base on the map as far away from the one you want to spawn at as possible. This slows the updates from that part of the map. Then quickly go to the field you want and spawn. The slower update allows you a few seconds before you appear to others that were already there.
-
I believe that at a V base you spawn outside the hanger.
As for turning and shooting, thats how it works. While the person is spawning in, he can kill his engine and turn his turret with out you hearing or seeing, this give him a chance. So you kill him as he spawns (bad form in my book, why not lie in wait off the field?), he searches for you in the tower, re-spawns and swings around to kill you.
Nothing wrong
-
Quite some tie ago, I believe, HTC added a delay from when the player spawns to when everyone around him see/hears him. This was done for the exact reason you call out...someone camping a spawn to get easy kills.
It's not a glitch or an exploit, and only slightly related to lag.

Inside.

I was camping the spawn so he didn't kill our troops. It was a port. Tower was obscured by trees, etc., doubt he could see me, his friend in a Seafire probably did though, and he knew approximately where I'd already killed him.
If the first reply is accurate, I dunno how I feel about that. Taking advantage of an exploit has a term for it where I come from.
-
When camping a spawn, or circle jerking as I refer to it, there should be absolutely no complaint in getting beat in any way shape or form.
As far as what causes the delay in seeing/hearing the spawning vehicle??? I say it is a combo of all things lag and whatever HTC incorporates in to the "coad" to compensate or accommodate either party. Pretty deep, huh?

I guess it was 1/4 circle jerk 'cause I was the only one managing the vh. I think there were four in THE Circle Jerks.
As I said, where I come from we have a term for ppl who take advantage, and an exploit is along the same lines. "Any way shape or form." Huh :headscratch: Would you like an air spawn that puts me up on your 6 when you shoot me down; would be pretty much the same thing if you are vulching my field.

You asked, I told you. Would you rather not have known?
I personally don't exploit that bug but others do so I'm glad I know about it and what I might expect.
-
There's no bug, it's an intentional delay of when a spawned vehicle/plane is shown on your screen to help people thwart spawn campers. The same thing happens when you spawn.
In your case it was being used as intended, not exploited. If you don't like it then don't spawn camp.

Hmm so let me get this you take advantage of the way the game spawns people by being behind them (er exploit) and are upset that they may use a lag trick to keep you from spawn &^$%ing?
OH I see

For each player the server maintains 2 lists. 1 list is the people near you and are in flight/on ground.
The other list is everyone. Only a certain number of people are checked per second/per player to find out if they need to be added to the near flight list. So depending on how many people are on line, and the luck of what people you are currently testing in the big list, the time before you see someone at spawn can vary.
I thought about changing it, but then decided it was almost a feature for GV's that gave the spawn-er a chance to get the camper.

I either like it or hate it depending on which side of the camp I am on. :rock

So depending on how many people are on line, and the luck of what people you are currently testing in the big list, the time before you see someone at spawn can vary.
So it would seem that at less populated times, or in lesser-populated arenas, this "spawn lag" is shorter, thus giving the spawner less of a chance to break the camping.

and there we have it. Burn that in to your memoreeez! (and pass it on). :aok
RotBaron- I don't ever really camp a spawn. I've set up a blocking action in many cases where the spawning gv's have to go through me to get to their objective (town, field, etc), but the challenge of boppin' tanks as they pop their heads up in spawn eludes me. As I've said many times before there is great irony in having a camp-tard crying foul by getting sent back to the tower by a bomb****. My point is simple: when camping all bets are off.
It was just a few short days ago an allied field was CAP'ed and vulched tight so I upped at an adjacent field in a 190D-9 and headed over to try and thin out the baddies. Upon arrival I was able to get a P51 and a F4U as they both lined up on the runway for a vulch, I about fell out of my chair as the irony hit me along side my head as one of the downed targets fired a PM to me calling me a "picker".

spawn camping hangers and spawn points is terrible to do to our fellow players and should be refrained from doing, unless it is being done by me or one of my countrymen, then it is generally accepted and a legitimate tactic.

I see what you did there.... and no.

So I was more or less right.

Yes there we have it, thank you for clearing that up HiTech.
It seems this thread became whether or not you like spawn campers, of which I really have no opinion. If that is what you want to do in the game, go for it. I doubt two people can get together and agree on every single thing regarding how they like to play the game. I'm not whining that he got me and was able to save his base, but I pm'd him and asked him how he was able to do that and he didn't answer...
Since there is a built in feature to the game to give those coming out of a vh a chance to survive, then it is so and I'll adjust my tactic. I thought being in that position was deterrent enough since the Seafire saw me, but I'll admit I thought I would probably get a few kills out of it. What I really was hoping for was to take the base, and the guy at this base was good at holding 5+ guys off at once. He nailed the bombers and tanks with the field guns after the vh went down and it just seemed fishy. Good to know he just plays hard and knows what he's doing.
Happy new year,

Now that is rather funny, the only time(s) I've fired pms, other than in this last instance is when a superior pilot HOs me. But I'm learning to deal with that...
I like what Soda wrote about vulching, something to the effect of, it's your choice to up from a capped field - don't complain if you get killed.
Happy new year,

I live in Phoenix, buy you a beer sometime ?

I was there with Rotbaron when said witchery went down. I wouldn't call what Rotbaron was doing spawn camping. We were in the process of capturing a port. The VH was down and Rotbaron was covering it in case it popped, which it did. While he was doing that I was covering the map room in a t34 with my engine off. I got wacked right about the same time Rotbaron did and by the same player. Suddenly I'm in the tower, never even heard an engine start up or any shooting.

So CAMPING SPAWNERS SPAWNING at the SPAWN POINT inside the SPAWN hanger is different than camping spawners spawning at a spawn point in the middle of nowhere?
I'm afraid I don't see the distinction.

It's much different
Camping the hangar is even easier :P

Rot when I had this happen to me I went to my standard tactics . I moved after each shot . Plan ahead a little bit . Think about where you want your first three or four positions to be . Think about where 88's and 17 lbs'ers may be able to pick you off . I will spawn camp or vulch every time to take a base .

Zoney, sure, sounds good. Pm me part of town ur in and such.
Bald Eagle, I think I can help you out here:

I think we disagree on what we see as camping, and as I already stated, I don't see any higher moral ground in doing it or not doing it...It sure seems like you think people that do it are doing something less than legitimate, it's a strategy game (in my eyes) and that's a strategy. Furthermore, what I see as camping is setting up shop with no real intention other than to bag a bunch of kills for no real purpose other than to kill ppl. This thread has made me identify what I don't see as camping, and that is putting yourself in a strategic and advantageous situation to achieve a collective goal. In this case the goal was capturing the port. If someone else had the vh it wouldn't have made one bit of difference to me. In contrast, when the terrain changes and ppl rush off to their favorite spots on a map 'cause they know what is about to take place and they want to set up shop to bag kills, I think the distinction can be made; is there a strategic goal in mind here that helps more than themselves...not. So thank you for making me clarify, at least to myself, what is camping. I think I'll tell them I'm SitzKrieging the vh from now on. However, I don't think less of ppl who do it, or more of ppl who don't.

I spawn camp from time to time. There's a few maps and locations where there are constant spawn battles and those are generally pretty fun.
I was simply disagreeing with your friends (and evidently your) definition of camping.
-
Rot it is still camping . Like everything else that is generally frowned upon in this game there is a time and place for it . Look at the HO . In a just about every situation it is pretty lame . If you are outnumbered turn fighting a couple of dewds , and have some guys in cannon wagons B and Zing , not so lame . One on one in a Zero , pretty lame .

That's awesome that we call it the same thing!
I drive the M3/75 almost exclusively if/when I GV... and MAN you should hear the whining... and it's not from the enemy!
Apparently I "pushed" a spawn one night... you'd have thought I took a dump in the Pope's big hat.
