And just WHAT makes you think the shooter couldn't have got a gun? So far the Federal Government has NEVER been able to prevent criminals from getting guns or any other weapon for that matter.

On the downside, this is more fuel for the current administration to support their scheme to disarm American citizens

And I am glad they are all sawn up! since the peace process. If I was to try and get hold of a gun in this country it would be next to impossible even legally you have to have a reason ie a guy that owns a farm needs a shotgun you have to be a landowner for that. Thats not to say the vast majority of any population regardless of country wouldn't use and own guns responsibly, but there is always that small small percentage of unstable people.

What part of the IRA used legally owned firearms? That guy on the right is carrying an AG-3, stoled from a Norwegian army depot. According to VG, a Norwegian newspaper, it took a junior high school student less than an hour to buy a loaded pistol on the streets of Oslo. Even if you destroyed every gun on the planet, it would only require a half-decent workshop to make one.

Ok now I have made my diy submachine gun! Now lets go to the shops to get some ammo, what?? ammunition is banned as well as guns here?? 'searches amazon for diy 9mm ammo manual' machine lathe please! oh no theres no gunpowder for sale?? Lets get some potassium nitrate...what its banned? 'It is over here btw' I have to use a Sten gun mag? Oh wait they don't sell them here, ok look for make sten gun mag on amazon.

You see your argument here is absolutely ridiculous, its like someone owning a business thinking of putting a fence up to protect it, "oh but someone could just climb over it, cut through it" Doors?? "Oh but someone could smash it in" why bother?

Its like a bank reasoning that the money should not be in a safe because if someone tried really hard they could break into it.

I am pretty sure the idea is a deterrant and to make it as difficult as possible for someone to do, we know that if someone is absolutely determined with anything they will go ahead but the percentage of people going to those lengths or having the means and knowhow to do so will always be smaller even with nutjobs, simply because it is a lot harder to do.

You will only ever be lowering the odds with this approach but I will bet the chances of it happening are infinitely smaller than if he could walk into a store and buy a gun and ammo legally.

My son-in-law, discharged from the Army because of extreme PTSD and TBI symptoms, lived with us for 8 months. I locked every firearm in my gun safe. My daughter struggled to deal with his wild mood swings and violent episodes. When he decided that he was no longer going to take his meds or visit his VA shrink, he was told he had to leave. We helped him get his own place, with financial assistance form the VA. My daughter stayed with us. That was over 2 years ago.

PTSD comes in many levels, with from mild to incredibly dramatic symptoms. When he lived with us, I would not let my son-in-law anywhere near a loaded firearm. His VA shrink made that clear to my daughter, that the mere sound of gunfire could trigger undesirable behavior, and possibly push him into regression. Simply not worth the risk.

It sounds to me that Kyle never should have brought this guy to a shooting range and hand him a loaded weapon. When he lived with us, I would not let my son-in-law anywhere near a loaded firearm. As of now, he's making good progress. Nonetheless, I've had to contain his violent outbursts in the past, where one one occasion, I had to use considerable physical force to end the behavior. I would not allow him near any weapons. I don't know what Kyle and his friend were thinking, but unless the VA shrink signs off on access to a firearm, no way would I take him out to go shooting.

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,344029.0.html

Absolutely tragic. I admire the sacrifices he made overseas and here on the homefront to help others out. Were there any video cameras or audio recorders present to pick up the moments prior?

I figured the shooter, had he suffered a mental breakdown from PTSD, would've tried to kill himself as well, either on the spot or before being captured.
