The title says it all. Lets talk about really expensive cars that we all want, but cant have.
For me, I want only 3. I wished for these very cars on Christmas but Santa obviously didn't deliver. Cheap bastard...
1: Lotus Elise
2: '69 Ford Mustang Boss 302
3: Mercedes Benz CLK GTR
Those 3 cars are very expensive, and are highly wanted by a lot of people. The sad thing is that only the Boss 302 is street legal in the US, so I might have to move to Canada so I can get my hands on that Lotus. Its a small list and I don't ask for much, but I like to keep it simple. Now that i'm done with my list, lets hear what stupidly expensive cars that you guys want.

All cars are expensive, I was given a car once and it cost me a fortune.

Aston Martin Vanquish

Hennessey Venom GT. Why? 1,244 BHP. Faster and quicker than the veyron. And it looks perfect.

Iso Grifo 7 Litre.
Available with a Big block chevy L71 (427/435hp....tri-power), full IRS with inboard mounted rear brake discs.
As far as the Hennessey, we hold the record and they don't.

I looked for a CTSV when I traded my SLK last year. Not surprisingly, there's not many used CTSV for sale but you can find the 6cyl all day long. I'm not a GM fan and they're they are butt ugly, but the horsepower could make me jump country real easy.

I replaced an engine on one that was a hennessey V650 and found that they had not upgraded the rods.
It's now LS9 trim with the lsa blower on it.

You'd be disappointed. It's fine in a straight line, but it handles like a bathtub. It's a $40K+/- car here.
You'd be better off buying a Camaro.

Ding! Ding!
Hell, I was all set to buy something expensive in Florida but didn't want to only have 2 seats in the car. I settled on a Maserati GT. I couldn't justify buying a new one so I was looking at second hand ones. Then I drove past a Chevy dealer, did a U-turn and test drove the (then) new 2010 6.2l V8. At less than HALF the cost of a second hand Maserati and about 1/10th the cost of maintaining one I got a completely loaded Camaro brand spanking new.
The looks we get when the whole family piles out of it at a restaurant are pretty priceless. They never valet it outside the restaurant or hotel, as they do with Ferraris and Masteratis etc. but I couldn't care less. Love the car and really glad I didn't drop a bomb on something crazy expensive.

I just checked into it, it's based on a Holden Statesman.

I think the front end is Holden based. Doesn't hurt to use the better idea. The rest is Detroit. I could be wrong.
Like I said I'm not a GM fan, but they have a strong package with that engine. Hard not to be impressed.
Curval, Maserati's lose value faster than 3 day old unrefrigerated squid.

I'd like a DB9.
New Stingray looks nice too.
How about a lovely Bentley?

Another reason I am glad I "didn't go there". I have seen many Maseratis in Miami, frankly I think the Camaro looks way cooler.
Hell, I have posted these before but it does give a degree of perspective:
Aston Martin DB9, Ferrari 430 and my Camaro. You be the judge:

Lotus Elise not street legal?
If I had my choice it would have to be a Vanquish, maybe a Lotus Exige, and a 2004 blue and black 954 fireblade

+1 Phatzo
The high performance atom gets my vote. I'd like to see them use one of these Holden motors.

DB9! Sorry, Curval. :)
:)
Quite alright sir. I must admit it is a rocking car. The guy who owns that one has a Vanquish in London.
I haven't driven it. I have driven the Ferrari, that was alot of fun.
But, hey....for alot less bucks mine can hang out with the big boys. :)
-
I'll point out that unlike the Veyron, no Hennessey has ever been intentionally driven off of a highway and into a lake while some teenagers happened to be filming the "Lamborghini" with their mobile phone.

sorry bud but
I drove a Challenger for many years :aok
I didn't drive it like some pansy I beat that car, from NH to Cali and back all over the East coast....
they were designed for road racing... have massive Torsion Bars, they stick great to the road....they handle far better then you give them credit for......I know I drove and beat the hell out of one.
how many Challengers have you drove? or been in?
are they a Ferrari durr no....but to say they handle "bad" or like a "Bathtub" is wrong.

I own a Challenger R/T with sport suspension and front strut tower brace. I speak from experience.
It doesn't turn like a bath tub. It also has Performance Steering with variable displacement pump and Track pack.
I've owned a Z28 and a Trans Am in the past. It handles better, is more comfortable (not squished in against the door)
and also is faster then the Camaro SS with 426 HP....I know form personal experience. The Camaro is a nice small auto that is
difficult to see out of. If it's your cup of tea it's fine.....no argument there.

Koenigsegg are overrated. Get a Porsche Carrera GT.
Now i'm not much of a fan for Dodge cars, but the Challenger isn't a boat when it comes to handling. If any car is a boat with handling, its the El Camino. But hey, I don't care for Dodge/Chevy cars, all I want is a Ford Mustang boss 302. If I cant get that in my lifetime, i'm going to go for a '73 Ford Capri 3100. The Capri was supposedly going to take on the BMW's of the time at the pro tracks in the EU region.
Another really awesome car that I think should go on my list is the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. The R34 could outrun the pigs all day and still look good doing it. Shame its not street legal here in the U.S. but next year the GT-R R32 is going to be street legal (From what iv'e been told.) Its funny though, the R32 is just slightly under powered compared to the R34.
-
The 73 capri was a 2600 not a 3100,it was also available with a 2 liter 4!
I had 1 for several years,it was a pretty good handling car for it's day. I went and test drove the RX7 when it first came out, thinking I might replace the capri but after taking an onramp at speed I decided it wasn't nearly as good as the old capri!
I really liked that car, even if it did get a little floaty when you pushed it to triple digits.

I was presented a mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 twin turbo as a rolling basket case and just got it started a couple of hours ago.
In this case "expensive" is applied to the amount of time consumed by putting this thing together and I still have a bit to go.
It was taken apart so completely that even the wiper blade springs were removed and I had to source even the dowels between the heads and block as well as the bellhousing dowels.
I got lucky and found a fuel pump check connector in the engine compartment and was able to simply connect it to battery positive to pump all 12 gallons of 5 year old fuel into gas cans and it was filtered by the car........clean and didn't smell as bad as I expected.
I tried the gas in the lawn mower and it ran great so the old gas went into the station wagon along with 4 gallons of high test............runs great.
The last hurdle in starting it was finding it had a top of the line clifford alarm system integrated into the EMS harness way up in the dash so I decided to try to work with it rather than bypass it.
When I took apart the key fob to replace the 7 year old battery I found surface mount integrated circuit chips and the battery clip rattling around in the case so it was time to fire up the hakko 471 desoldering station to clean it up and get to work remounting components.
Amazingly, it unlocked the doors and enabled injection and the engine started right away despite having been completely disassembled and sitting in boxes for 5 years.
I bill $168 per labor hour for my time and this car would have cost a fortune to put together properly.
Lucky it's mine.......or unlucky.
Don't drag race your VR-4......it will come out of the hole great many times......at the expense of driveline parts.
Right after I got it started and was striking muscle poses around the house, my sister called telling me her land rover defender had just arrived from Monrovia, Liberia........and I have a dyno dynamics twin retarder 2200hp dyno to rebuild next week and a car to prep. for another run at 300mph in a few weeks, two guitars for sale, two chorme drum sets for sale, two sweet snares for sale.....etc.
It's like baseball......lots of waiting around and suddenly a frenzied burst of activity.

lol probably...but theres something about it
The travesty is how much a legal one here costs here - you dont get much change out of $130k from an importer who converts them to RH drive which is kinda stupid cause yeah they are less than US$50k.
I've never understood why Dodge (or now Fiat) never sold them or the Charger here because V8's have always been popular and my Journey came RH out of the factory (complete with the bonnet release in the passenger side!) so with the Aus dollar in parity with the greenback it should've been an easy starter - although I guess because they might not have been popular in Europe maybe there was too much of a cost in building right hand drive versions

top 3 dream cars .. tuff choices ..except for the top of the list.
1) '68 Hemi Cuda ..set the paradigm for Hemi cars. An animal cracker bumper-to-bumper.
2) Supercharged '70 Hemi Cuda ..best looking Hemi car
3) Any hot rod/supercharged Corvette from 1997 up. Damn fine automobiles all the way around.
That said .. my daily driver is a bright RED 2012 Challenger Hemi R/T .. it scratches a lot of my itches :)
Goin thru the twisties it does not have the grip my Vettes had ..more weight, less tire, higher CG ..
..so corner apex speeds were about 5mph slower,
and it's easier to kick the back end out comin out (Challenger really needs more rubber in the back)
..mine has the big brakes and I was operating in sport mode
..it does well enough but does not have the neutral feelin my Vettes had..
..gotta mind the throttle-steering action-reaction a bit more ..but still great fun :)
Challenger is quicker due to gear ratio/torque available
..I get the distinct feelin I could get sideways very easily on corner exit :)
(again due to needing a bit more rubber out back)

Some of the best looking classic cars, but I prefer my '69 Boss 302 any day of the week. :D
Here's what I would like my Elise to look like if I ever do get one, I got this pic from Need For Speed World and I do own an Elise in that game.

The Lotus Exige is pretty close to the Elise, but it has a "fastback" type of look to it, and I don't like that on expensive exotic cars. However, the Exige is slightly faster than the Elise and I think that's a decent trade off. What I really love about the Elise/Exige is the high curves on the front end and on the sides. It looks like an ocean tide rolling along the sides/front. Pretty cool looking if you ask me.
-
I did not bother reading through this wet dream of a post but what I have learned is expensive cars well....are expensive.. go buy that panty dropper on wheels and you are gonna be dropping yours at the service center. Get a classic and laugh at the joker driving the "lack of barrel compensated" nice car.

Interesting, the boss 302 was not a good seller back then. It was a real good car but fell short of power. The 351 Cleveland just over shadowed the boss. The Cleveland had the horsepower to overcome the better handling boss. They did not sell too well if i remember right.
