Title: Remember when it was cool to fight
Post by: Gixer on April 24, 2013, 06:13:15 PM
Remember when, back before AW players arrived and the senseless hordes that grew from that later on..  Is it not cool anymore to fly out on your own looking for good 1v1 fights and not in some late war easy ride?

Seriously starting to wonder if it's even worth $15 a month anymore.

You need to fly lower, with older and slower planes  :aok

Some people can't get a kill unless it's parked on a runway or is already busy with 10 other people. How will they afford 262s to run into mountains if they have to actually earn them?!

Dammit.   Why am I always late to the party?

Pay 15$ for a month of some other game and see if it full fills your requirements.

Most aces after wwI who flew solo in wwII were called exactly that...aces, they didn't cry about hordes or being out numbered, they flew into hell and back. If you cannot or have become unwilling to do the same without SOME form of cover from allies or at the very least a single wing man, then i don't know WHAT your $15 a month is worth to myself or the people on my team. And if you haven't sent yourself and every single AC available in aces high to hell and back that has at least one forward firing gun........then what is your $15 a month worth.

Nothing sadder then a lone wolf howling at no moon.

With all due respect Gixer.  :salute :rock

Please don't compare bravery of real life combat actions to a cartoon game. AH is no braver than chasing down ghosts in Pacman.   :lol

If you want a 1v1 you can ask someone. I have done this a few times and I feel it's a great learning experience.

If you don't want to ask for a 1v1, then you could grab DT, go out to a base that has no horde (and is far away from the horde) and loiter inside their radar (don't drop the dar). Once you have an upper, drage them away from their ack so that they can't run to it. Wait for them to climb co-alt, then turn in. Don't ho on the first pass, if they try to then just climb above them or deflect. These are hard to set up since you usually get more than one upper.

Speaking of 1v1, JUGgler would you be interested in said 1v1?

It's been a couple of years since i played this game
I find some maps better than others, some players more willing than others.

What hasn't changed in 2 years---everything including players complaining about this or that

What has changed, more quality sticks
I suck more than I used to---maybe that hasn't changed
I wish I hadn't of quit because no matter how bad it seems this is the best we have and is worth all of the 15 bucks

Well...I did log on during my last week of subscription a few days ago (found out checking my mail) after 20+ days since my last flight. Went to TT, find a 109G14 at 15K, circling his vbase. With a 5K disadvantage in a P38J, I rolled in anyway. Two passes and one reversal later, he's already on the deck surrounded by 3 wirbles. Gave a wirble a kill and deleted my account right after. Yawn.

Yes there are good fights, yes there are moments of fun. But they're so hard to find, it's just easier to pick up another game and spawn/load into the action instantly.

If you want a 1v1 you can ask someone. I have done this a few times and I feel it's a great learning experience.

I have done this and rarely will some one answer over 200. And when they do, it's the same people. Sure it's fun, but after 40 something duels with each other, it gets stale. Oh wells, I've been having tons of fun playing some new games, maybe when I finish them I'll hop on back.

"Remember when it was cool to fight "

It still is until someone whines about you winning.  Sound familiar (like every time we've met)?

Too bad because I have a lot of respect for your ability which is totally offset by my lack of respect for your personality.

Personality, you or anyone don't know me personally, I've never met anyone from this sim in all my years here. Not even some of local Kiwis or Aussies. You or anyone haven't even spoken to me even on comms, since I
haven't bothered to hook up a mic since I left my last squad in about 2002

So personality you don't know me from jack, other than 200 and forums.

Interesting though you throw discussion off topic to fire off a personality attack, even if its just your perception of me online.

I took a 3 year break only came back 2 month ago the game had changed a little in those 3 years but while i was away i realized that aces high 2 is deffinatly worth the sub best combat flight sim around best community ever too, now fair enough 3 years was a long time but i feel a few months away could have the same effect for others.

   Horde fighting 101

   Get a fast plane

Zoom through Horde and pick up 5-8 cons on six

   Egress from horde center mass

Watch as they drop off looking for an easier target

When down to 1 or 2 engage

   enjoy fight  :D

This is a complete cop out.

Knowing you in real life is not a requirement for making a judgement about your online interactions,  otherwise known as your online  "personality".

My favorite tactic is to zip through a sea of red, get 6-12 red planes chasing me, rope them all, laugh joyously as they all stall, shoot 3 of them down, rinse and repeat.  :devil

Dont blame the AW crowd for "ruining" the game for you.  Many of us were all about the fight, and its possible if we had all gone to WW2OL or something else as a group, this one may have died early.

Personal shots aside, I'm done. Can't justify $15 a month for the game play that now exists in the MA, off peak use to be good for better fights but such few numbers on during my time zone not even worth the time to try and find a con.

Never been able to participate in FSO or other events due to timezone difference.

Graphics add immersion and realism, AH (yes I know multiplayer etc etc) but AH is terribly dated now and just painful to look at even with sliders at full. Shame HT didn't use time spent on ToD,WW1 etc and spent $$ and time towards developing a next generation graphics/physics engine, which I actually expected with AH2 so many years ago.

Guess I was out by 10 years and counting on that one, bit like a updated Yak.  :lol

Been an interesting few years, but my time for cartoon planes and a MA which has become more like Air Quake is over.

A new G27 has arrived so what spare time I have from real life will now go towards sim racing.

I honestly understand man, I have flown very little and when I do its most often the DA....if its fights you want the DA is where its at....the MA sadly while some still fight....... the majority only want the kill and believe surviving is paramount and .........Zee Var most be von........

seriously though AH the game itself kicks ass,  are the graphics the best there are.......... no.......but AH isn't about graphics and eye candy its about Arial Combat............ DA is where the real fights are...... yes fights can be found in the MA but no where near the level the are in the DA.....are there gangs and tards in the DA.....yup..........thats because AH is populated by people and wherever people  are....tards are.......

but there are also some great people (squadies but not only)and some great fights to be had.....you should try the DA regular say for a week or two and then if you feel the same, there is no point staying.

and that car looks sick........but blaaaaa racing games are a dime a dozen, besides who wants to race when we can drive every day.......flying a plane and killing MFers is where its at. :aok

More likely they was called.... dead.       if they was flying solo in combat.

Combat has always been a "team" sport.

And like others....  I to have a new G27 and find it hard to give time to AH when I  can be over at IRACING.
