Title: A trip down memory lane..List all the vehicles you have owned
Post by: SilverZ06 on May 09, 2013, 09:30:14 PM
A buddy and I were talking about all the vehicles we've gone through since getting our licenses at 16. I figured it would be fun to see what everyone else has owned.

In order (i'm not going to list my wife's cars even though they are technically in my name)

1992 isuzu pick up
1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse Gs-T
1991 Plymouth Lazer GS
1995 Miata
1982 Nissan 280zx Turbo
1997 Nissan 200sx SE-R Turbo
2002 Corvette Z06
2004 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab
1990 Mustang 5.0 notch back
1989 Mustang 4cyl notch back (this car was a roller that was going to be built for drag racing)
2007 Suzuki GSX-R 600
2000 Corvette FRC (fixed roof coupe)
2006 Cadillac CTS-V
1995 Miata (not tagged, strictly an auto cross car)
2003 Yukon XL (current family vehicle  :frown:)

You can see I started as an "import guy" and finally saw the light after getting tired of spinning my front wheels while racing. 15 cars in 15 years of driving  :uhoh

well this is just a pic of the car i had back in the 80's.  mine was metallic silver.  no other car has even come close to match it.  i convinced 3 girls they were the only one.  in the end I paid for 20 years for a car that I bought for 1,500 bucks.  but it was worth it :).

Too many to list.  Only one that mattered was the 1970 Impala I learned in.  Built like a tank with that big 350 under the hood.  Still the fastest I've ever gone in a car.  My dad said the best thing that could have happened did when a had a minor accident, just enough to point out to me that even though I was gods gift to driving it didn't mean every one else was.  Bottom line is I needed to drive remembering that,

Since then cars are get me here to there things.

oh wow.
Well .. I will go right down the line 'off the cuff' ..prolly forget a few.

'55 Chebby 2-door post ..robins egg blue/white ..bought it when I was 15 the day after I got my permit.

'59 Chebby Biscayne.. beige POS..senior year of high school..had 'tow package' and was actually pretty sprightly w/327 and 4.11 gears.

'60 VW bug convertible..Red w/white top, interior..found it in a shed in a backyard, paid $250 for it, drove it home..cleaned up very well. Sold it for more than I paid for it a few months later :)

'67 Hemi GTX 4-gear..copper metallic w/cragar S/S's, bought when I graduated from high school in 1969..ruined me for life..was an awesome summer.

'63 Ford 390 Galaxy convertible ..pale yellow w/silver interior..my first great mistake..actually traded the GTX for it because the Hemi got terrible mileage.

'67 Ford 289 Mustang ..light metallic green..my second great mistake, swore to never own another Ford. Ridiculous 'engineering' .. 289 was a dog, a real POS not worth the effort of makin it go fast.

'69 383 Road Runner, 4-gear.. silver w/black vinyl top and blue interior..after Kathy and I married. Awesome road tiripper. 426 wedge powered when we sold it.

'64 L-88 powered Malibu, maroon w/ black interior..4-gear..scary fast and broke a LOT of parts..pull the wheels in 2nd, 13:1 comp..my first Daeco baby.. first 'project car'

'62 Nova wagon..white w/tan interior..interim wife transportation, paid 100 bucks for it ..ended up racin it in brackets for laffs :)

'71 Duster, 440 6-pac powered beast, Hemi Orange w/ black interior..my first 'automatic' car. Bracket raced it for 18 years off and on. It never broke. 2nd 'project car'

'68 440 Dodge Coronet R/T ..gold metallic w/black interior..basic transportation w/headers, weiand intake, 850 Holley, hemi-grind cam. Nice ride.

'70 340 Dart swinger, scat pac.. bright yellow, black stripes, black interior..13.90's at Orange County no less..squirreliest car I ever drove in the snow.

'68 Chebby stepside pickup, Hemi Orange w/tan interior..wife n I rebuilt the 6 banger, Sig Erson cam an all ..was a nice truck when we finished.

'75 Chebby surfer van, flares, Blue metallic custom paint, blue shag carpet interior, Cragar S/S rims, killer stereo and all.

'67 440 powered Belvedere, black n white ..damn fast, fun, scared the crap out of people :)

'67 GTX, 440 powered, never made it past project car, slated for Hemi Orange :( Tube framed, 'glas, pro-gas race car setup for street fun goal.

'96 Z28 Chebby automatic, Forest Green w/black interior..right off the show room floor. Beautiful, fast, saved our lives once, fun to drive.

'98 Durango, RED, right when they came out, my first internet auto purchase, we got a lot of comments everywhere.

'00 Durango, Patriot Blue, this one had all the bells and whistles I had wanted on the first one :) Was fun anywhere.

'98 Vette Z-51 automatic. black on black ..Just plain wow. Damn fine automobile all the way around. B&B exhaust really woke it up.

'97 Vette 6-gear ..another level of wow. Black w/Firethorn red interior..6-gear really added much more to the fun of drivin it :)

'12 Hemi Challenger R/T. RED hot rod Dodge w/slate gray interior. If I had owned this when I was 19 I would probably still be in JAIL.

Those are the highlights
. . I know I have probably left out more than a few along the way
..and dont get me started on bikes :)

I will probably end up tradin the Challenger R/T in for an SRT in a few years ..more is better!

It was a looooooooong time ago. I think full time 4wd, no locking hubs. Reeeaaaaal wide single valve cover. Gas engine. Beyond that, had a camo respray. Not me, po. Traded my panel truck for it in jersey. Was good in the pine barrens though. Then got the cm400e and moved to Vermont.

Thanks, I fell in love with the 95 then moved to the 98 since the suspension was coil over. The 2006 was the first (my new car present to myself for getting promoted) i had lifted and worked like a canvas painting. I of course abused it like an idiot and traded it for the 2012 (no we shouldnt talk about the 96 cherokee it was a complete mistake) and then traded it for the current fresh canvas of a 2013. The 2013 unlimited has its own workshop and will be getting worked on like the 6 million dollar man pretty soon. I found the ride height i like and the suspension but will need to do some more research before cracking any bolts. Wranglers are also the only thing I fit until i get into my mid-life crisis.  :)

1999 VW Golf MkIV GTi 8v (still going ... slowly)

a chip wont do much to mine unfortunately as its the N/A 2.0 not the 1.8T. also known as the Two-point-Slow :(

Its had the head skimmed and flowed (for free!) and airbox smoothed out so it breathes a little better, but you could throw some Schrik cams, Ti springs, chip and Milltek exhaust at it and would still barely make 150hp ...

I did throw on some Tarox discs and use Pagid fast road pads, so at least the brakes work properly now :)

1966 Cessna 172
1981 Mooney 201 - Money pit no1
1993 Ford Taurus - it Taurused pretty well for awhile and then it blew a headgasket (as CAP1 said it would with that engine)
2002 Yamaha YZ250 - first "bike"
2007 Honda Civic - 150k miles and still going strong - and the best part is its paid for!
2012 Ninja 650 - money pit no2. A lot more get up and go than the YZ250, I spend most of my weekends these days either tinkering with the Mooney or with this thing. It's a great size for street riding, I've got about 3k miles on it now. Ordered a new exhaust for it yesterday.

2001 Hyundai Tiberon - First new car I ever bought.  Not bad.  The chicks liked it.   :aok

2003 Jeep Rubicon - Would climb a frickin' tree... and I tried.  Was awesome till some tool stole it.

2006 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited - Loved the '03 and had to get another.  Still drive her daily.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland - Nice ride for the wife.  She liked it a lot, but then...

2010 Chrysler Town and Country - Don't judge me.  The wife went nuts and wanted a van.  I chose not to fight that battle.

2013 Dodge Durango - Success!  Purged the Van and got the hemi back!   :x

I'll post a list later as time allows. My current car is pictured below.  This was my retirement gift from the wife in 2010.  I actually wanted a Bimmer, MB, or Audi.  I guess living in Germany and seeing those hot arse cars fueled my desire.  Being the type to not do hasty/impulse buys, I studied much.  In the end, even though I could afford a much more expensive car, I bought the Mustang.  I wished I had known at the time the 2011 would have  a 5.0 Coyote motor!

That said, I have modified this car to dyno 520 BHP.  It is a blast to drive.

I am installing some more go fast parts later this month and expect horse power at the crank to be around 620 - not bad for a Ford.

I'll try this out, I'm sure I'm going to miss a whole bunch.

1972 Beetle
1970ish VW Camper Van
1990 Mazda RX 7
1995 ZR2 lifted Sonoma Chev Truck
1995 Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo
1998 Pontiac Firebird Ram-Air WS6
1996 Chev Yukon
1998 Ford 150 4X4 V6 Short Box
2000 and 2003 Jeep TJ 4.0 L
2002 Pontiac FireBird WS6 - Last year model was made
2003 Chev Duramax Quad Cab SLT Diesel
2005 Nissan 350Z
1993 Mazda RX7 Turbo
2008 Chev Duramax Diesel SLT Q Cab again
2006 Corvette Z06
2010 Nissan GTR - wife's
2008 Dodge Viper
2011 Ford Mustang Shelby

I inherited the first 2 as my first cars, so the first RX7 was really my "first" car that I bought on my own.

I think that's most of the cars and trucks, motorbikes would take too much thought and effort to remember them all, have to be around 30 or 40 I think including dirt bikes.  Still have the 08 Duramax, going strong with 250k Miles, or whatever just under 400k KM's is in imperial.  Still have the GT-R and the Mustang which will go on the road next week now that all the snow and remaining crap on the roads is finally gone.  October 10 2012 till May 3 2013...longest winter non bike riding season I can remember this year....

edit- Grayeagle's list was the coolest by far, but lots of other very cool lists and pictures, some with many cars I had really wanted myself - the Eagle Talon TSI was something I lusted over when it was new, but never did get one.

99 oldsmobile alero - retired at 353,000km after whatever was knocking gave out. had it for 6 or or so years. thing would cruise at 80mph all day and get ~30mpg without a single complaint...
2002 subaru impreza...bought it cheap with a blown transmission, swapped it out on the cheap, installed a few different parts from higher trim levels and a sound system. have a couple pipe dreams for it, and so far its taken quite a bit of abuse.

nothing special. other than the AWD the alero was a better car in every aspect.

It was a looooooooong time ago. I think full time 4wd, no locking hubs. Reeeaaaaal wide single valve cover. Gas engine. Beyond that, had a camo respray. Not me, po. Traded my panel truck for it in jersey. Was good in the pine barrens though. Then got the cm400e and moved to Vermont.

ah
figgers.
J10s are 70s only,

Had to look online, now a bit intrigued. The wide valve cover looked the same (from my vague memory) as the cover on the Tornado I6 engine, which would place it 62-64 and possibly a J20. So I really don't know.

good lord GE you get through a lot of cars!

please tell me you didnt write them all off! :D

Oh heck no .. some I got offered far more than I thought they were worth, some I traded in,
..only one I ever 'scrapped' was the '64 Malibu
..pulled out all the goodies and had the car towed to a junkyard
..it just wasn't worth much in 1976 and I needed the room to build the Duster :)
All the go-fast chebby stuff financed the go-fast mopar stuff I needed for the Duster ;)

Only car I ever 'totalled' was my '87 CRX Honda ..LA city workers were tearin up an intersection
down in Chatsworth and the light sequence was screwed up right when I went thru..
..got hammered makin a left turn by oncoming traffic I did not see till too late, we both had green light.

The Honda bounced ..like shootin pool ..spun a 360, crossed the intersection, stopped with the motor still runnin.
The other car hit just ahead of right front tire and basically wiped the front end off just ahead of the radiator.
I had gripped the steering wheel hard at moment of impact ..broke all the bones in my left hand tween wrist and fingers.
Still have a titanium plate screwed in holdin it all together.

Honda's .. they run till someone runs into 'em or you trade 'em in :)

BTW, I love the Ford Edge.  I have tried to talk the wife into trading in her Volvo XC70 for one, but she really loves her car.

I am thinking of buying an old fox body stang to make a drag race car. When I get back to the states I'll start looking for a platform.

A buddy and I were talking about all the vehicles we've gone through since getting our licenses at 16. I figured it would be fun to see what everyone else has owned.

In order (i'm not going to list my wife's cars even though they are technically in my name)

1992 isuzu pick up
1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse Gs-T
1991 Plymouth Lazer GS
1995 Miata
1982 Nissan 280zx Turbo
1997 Nissan 200sx SE-R Turbo
2002 Corvette Z06
2004 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab
1990 Mustang 5.0 notch back
1989 Mustang 4cyl notch back (this car was a roller that was going to be built for drag racing)
2007 Suzuki GSX-R 600
2000 Corvette FRC (fixed roof coupe)
2006 Cadillac CTS-V
1995 Miata (not tagged, strictly an auto cross car)
2003 Yukon XL (current family vehicle  :frown:)

You can see I started as an "import guy" and finally saw the light after getting tired of spinning my front wheels while racing. 15 cars in 15 years of driving  :uhoh

Geez, is there an insurance company that'll cover you after going though all those?  :D

well this is just a pic of the car i had back in the 80's.  mine was metallic silver.  no other car has even come close to match it.  i convinced 3 girls they were the only one.  in the end I paid for 20 years for a car that I bought for 1,500 bucks.  but it was worth it :).

In my day job, I modify cars to over 2000hp so I don't really feel like driving a 500hp car around as a daily driver because that's about 800hp less than I would want if I were really serious.

Hmm...

1982 Chevette
1987 944 Turbo
1988 911 Carrera
1990 Corvette
1991 Cherokee
1996 993 C2

2002 330i
2002 540i

2004 S2000
2006 9-3 Aero

Feels like I'm forgetting a couple which probably aren't worthy of mention, anyway.  '06 Aero and '96 993 remain, currently.  Wish I still had the '91 Cherokee.  You could lubricate that 4.0L six pot with sand instead of oil and never know the difference.  Bulletproof motor.

I'm almost embarrassed to add to this thread after seeing some of the iconic vehicles some of you guys owned. but here goes:
Honda CB125N, quite boring but managed to fall off it just outside an RAF base on my way to the Farnborough Airshow. Still have fused thumb thanks to that accident.

Yamaha RD350LC, now that is iconic, a two stroke hand grenade of a bike. It nearly killed me several times, most notably when it blew a tyre just on the M6 motorway at about 85 mph just outside Walsall in England. I also dropped in Kent (on oil) near Brands Hatch racetrack and only for the quick reactions of a car driver did I not end up as a raspberry smear somewhere in England. There is a theme here, I should stay the hell out of Britain on a motorcycle.

Yamaha DT175, a trail bike. I bought this when the RD was stolen. The Elsie (LC) was the most popular bike for armed robbers in Ireland at one stage. It was also the favoured mount of gangland assassins. I hated the DT. Eventually the police, the Garda recovered the RD350. I was brought to headquarters to identify it. While I was there the detectives pointed out a car in the pound with bullet holes in the windscreen. One of their colleagues had been cut down by an IRA Ak47 in that car. I felt sick.

The RD was stolen again and used to rob a pub, then abandoned and recovered. Seriously if my bike was a human it would be doing life without parole by now.

In the end it expired but by then I'd bought my sister's little black Mini, no not a skirt but her car a 1980 model. Now there's an iconic vehicle. Tiny but gutsy. But it was old, first thing to go wrong was the brakes, luckily the car I hit was almost as in a bad condition as my car. So neither of us could figure out where the new damage had happened. Then the clutch went, followed by the engine mounts which caused the exhaust to crack. Then the steering went, yes that's right the steering column snapped. Finally the radiator started to leak so I had to carry water with me on every trip. Finally I sold it to a sixteen year old kid who wanted to restore it. Trouble is he didn't want his Mother to know so he left it outside my house. But his Mother was friends with my Mother and she found out. I was haunted by that car.

Next car was a Suzuki Swift, called something like the Omni or Geo in the US.  Three cylinder thing made of paper I reckon.  I bought it off my brother. He's an aircraft Engineer (mechanic in the US). It suffered from carburettor icing. Ten miles down the road it would cough, cough splutter.   So you pulled over and waited for the ice to melt. Mad, absolutely  mad.  It's radio was LM.  All I could could pick up was some German radio stations. Hey I quite like oompah music and I was kept up to date im de schneefall in dem Herz.
Eventually a moron, slammed into me in a van while I was sitting at a red light behind another car. Both front and rear were totalled. Although it was driveable. But when it came to the insurance claim he made up a story about me causing the whole accident. I was screwed by his insurance company and my own lawyers.

I traded the wreck for a brand new Fiat Punto.......................d on't buy a Fiat. The exhaust fell off and it blew the head gasket.

Got rid of it and bought a VW golf off a friend. That went well for a few years but after three gearbox failures my illusions are shattered. I did like the Golf though. But it had to go.

Now I actually don't own a car any more. My wife owns both of them but she lets me drive the Mazda 6. But my car woes continue. Only the other day, I was sailing down the exit lane when a Mercedes pulled out in front of me, whack! To be fair he took full responsibility and paid cash up front to fix it, which my wife took to Milan. Yes Milan, Italy. One pair of shoes I reckon. I'm thinking I should give up on cars and bikes.

Also it must be said I owned a share in two aeroplanes or airplanes as they were American. One was written off twice the other is scrap right now and I never flew it..

I think I should stay away from mechanically propelled vehicles.

The E39 5 series is by far the best allround car Ive ever driven, and may well be the closest to perfection a car can get. If I could find an unmolested 535 with less than 60k on it I'd buy it tommorrow ;)

I am honored to be referred to as a petrol head.  Thank you sir.  ;)

The E39 chassis is good, no doubt but, if I'm honest, I prefer the E34.  Either way, for a car that heavy, BMW did a fairly good job of masking the weight.  Had a few problems with coolant pressure throughout the years but it was otherwise a fine car.  Was even able to score one with a standard transmission (which I still maintain was not up to the task of handling the V8).

If you need four doors, that's your car.  If you only need two doors, the 01-06 E46 M3 is vastly superior in substantially every aspect and, at today's prices, very tough to beat, bang-for-the-buck/quality-for-the-quid.
