So is it any good?
-
Just saw it yesterday. Was a little better than the last one. Good stuff. :aok
-
Very good. Saw it twice last weekend. :aok
-
The first movie ever I literally fell asleep while watching it in the cinema. Boring. Wife (which is more of a trek 'fan' than me) was quite disappointed too.
-
Germans...... ;)

Germans...... ;)
No, as far as I know there were no Germans in it :old:
-
I bet they were speaking German though, while their lips moved in funny ways. :old:

This is what I heard about it too.

I came pretty close to falling asleep too which is rare for me.
And I wasn't even particularly tired. Although it was quite warm in the cinema ;x
I found the movie incredibly generic and average. I think I must just be getting old and grumpy...it looked amazing, brilliant CGI etc...but it was so predictable and non-engrossing.
Typical JJ Abrams really
-
Did you just say predictable? Every single star trek movie and episode has been this and nothing more.
Some red shirts die, a invisible healer thingy saves someones life, buncha people get teliported here and there for so and so reason, and they win. But not before the enterprise is ripped to shreds....again. Enterprise always get's destroyed, time for a new ship design ffs!
Change this station!!

:headscratch: I must be watching a different show. I watch older episodes from time to time, and find the plots to vary enough. The jack the ripper one I seen a few years ago comes to mind.
The breakdown you did could be done for a lot of different shows with minor tweaks.
I.E any crime drama.
Opening - See crime committed, or its aftermath. Find a clue and gain a suspect. Suspect is A. the wrong guy or B.the right one. They travel around in a car a few times, find out a few more things. One cop still strongly suspects the first suspect, others think its a new guy. Some vital clue pops up and/or Cop makes the connections between old clues. They confront suspect, arrest him. Case solved.
-
lol, ya you would think they had a better design for an interstellar space ship...seriously what's the deal with the tripod design?
why does anyone expect more than the typical good guys vs bad guys massive death and destruction with a lot of flare that makes up all action/adventure movies since...sound was added to movies. if you can fly around in a toon plane for hours doing the same thing every time you're online, enjoy the movie for what it is, a plotless story with flare. i'll wait for the dvd, should be near xmas time...

Did you snore loudly and embarrass her?

The original series always had a good message built in. :old:
That's one reason it was so awesome.
I don't care about graphics as much as the story, characters, and deeper meaning of the message. :aok

You're wrong about Enterprise. There's nothing wrong with the configuration, but the variations. This...
...is simply one of the best ship designs EVER. Everything about it just looks RIGHT. The "new" Enterprise from the remake just looks awkward in its lines and proportions. They should have either kept the classic design and just updated the effects model for more detail, or used something closer to the refit style.

I'm a fan of the Sovereign-class Enterprise E. Much sleeker than any of the other Enterprises.

I saw it. I was entertained. Didn't like the reworked Enterprise though...
So how does Khan end up on Ceti Alpha VI
Also, wasn't Khan supposed to be Indian.

Maybe he was running a 7/11 franchise store there?

that is not an efficient nor effective design...look at all the points of failure. it's deep space and faster than light travel. just looking at the structural design, the enterprise is a disaster.
the romulans had at least 1 better design...

the voyager was an improvement over the enterprise design...

I saw it with German subtitles so I couldn't tell what the Klingons were saying. Then I fell asleep a few scenes later.
It was cool to see the Enterprise blacked out and the new cast is pretty decent. I cant stand Shatner so there is some bias.

It was amazing.
I loved the first movie reboot of Star Trek, and as Star Trek is a series, it is natural for the sequel to be "the same".
However... I am a sinner, a heathen to you elder trekkies on here....

Meh. I got paid to go see it and lunch was included; not sure I would have seen it had that not been the case. Though it was interesting to see a place I use to work at used in parts of the movie. The engineering spaces around/outside the warp drive were all apparently shot at the target chamber of the NIF facility at the livermore labs.
Out of two possible thumbs up, I give the movie a shrug.

ya know, it's good of you to maintain the levity and point that out. :aok a hundred years ago, wireless telephones, electric cars, and men travelling into space were science fiction too... :neener:

a hundred years ago (...), electric cars (...) were science fiction too... :neener:
They weren't. :)

ok then, 200 years ago...before edison and ford.

How many dozen enterprises exist in Star Trek canon?
On a side note, any hobby woodworkers may be interested in making these awesome key holders.
The enterprise has also been hijacked at least 6 or 5 times.

Movie was boring and generic, as a Trek fan particulary disappointed by the cheap rehash during the end. And many times during the movie I had to ask myself really??? wtf were the writers thinking.... The only good thing I would say is the CGI which looks spectacular.
This could have been Treks "Dark Knight" moment but instead we got "Batman & Robin".
-
I went out and saw it last night.. I enjoyed it.
I thought the last movie was the best I had ever seen.. from a 'wow' factor. VERY rarely have I left a theater feeling like I had just gotten off a kick-ass rollercoaster, as I did with that one. It still had a bit of a kick the 2nd and 3rd times on DVD.
This latest one is darn close.. and I pause to say better.. but very close.
I really don't care if some of the stuff is predictable.. I was entertained and felt it was worth every nickel of the ticket price.
Besides, the theater now sells beer, so I got to enjoy it while nursing a cold one.

Oh yeah? Commander Peter Quincy Taggart told me it's all real - and he needs my help to shut down a neutron reactor! :x

I would spend time debating this, but I told jimi hendrix, that we would go pony trekking under the sea later.

Me and daughter went to see it today at 3D IMAX. Very entertaining.

We need a movie where the villian/villians obliterate the hero's.
Like the death of superman! :x :rock

OMG, they killed Kenny.

LOL the argument in comments is amazing!
-
I liked it.
IMHO better than the first one.
And ..it's a new history timeline ..so Khan can end up anywhere,
..they can re-think all the first contact stories of the series ..etc.
The major players on the crew have a life-work ahead of them :)
As for ship design and points of failure
.. hard to say what the requirements of an FTL starship drive system, shields, and anti-grav is going to demand.
I would hope it would have more character than an elongated egg shape front and tapered rear.
