The loss of your floating flak wagon pales in comparison to this setup.

EvE Online, I play it religiously. I heard about that ship being destroyed. It also was the first of it's kind to be destroyed.
-
:rofl that's just awesome...

This is a video of the ship being destroyed. All the Red/Purple/Yellow/Green are people. from the looks of it it was a 125 man vs 125 man fleet battle.

I know nothing of the game, how long would one have to grind away to acquire a ship like that?

Over a year just to 'fly' it. Probably over 3 years to make it a decent combat vessel + getting the 'isk' to buy it.
-
It probably wasn't by coincidence they happened to find it floating in space. The assault on killing it probably took months to plan. A few super carriers went down also which are pretty expensive too.
-
This is just crazy.
-
Watched the vid.......man am I lost. When did anything get destroyed?
:old: <------- think I know why I don't understand
-
If you don't play the game it's hard to understand. Just looks like a bunch of colorful lights running around. :P
-
The Cylons were pretty cocky too. (http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/rr149/Rich46yo/cylonship_zps323795df.jpg)

Would you turn off that music?
-
One of my co-workers spent a year or so as a 'mole' in some corporation in that game and rose up the ranks to be one of the top executives and took it over and then led their fleet to destruction and took all of their ISK. He received hundreds of death threats afterwards.
ack-ack

Without seeing the link, I'll guess it was EVE online.
Ack Ack's reference was the best clue because a friend who plays it told me about that scandal.

Yep...high-risk PvP is definitely not my thing.
-
At what point does it become a waste of time and money?....Shortly after his ship got blown up I presume?
-
Well, the ship itself wasn't that great of a ship. It was how rare it is that made it expensive. There are only 3 in game (Now only 2).
-
Btw if anyone wants to try Eve Online. I'd be happy to help you out. Shoot me a message.

For me it would be the second you realized that saving it was impossible.

No, I don't wanna buy a timeshare for an online space battleship right now. :D

From the looks of it I'd say the moment you start the game for the first time. That game looks like a gigantic time sinker with little returns for non *** retentive personalities.

EVE is an amazing game. It can be extremely complex and the learning curve is huge. I was never able to "get into it" - I attempted to get into corporations for newbies to learn the game, but the application process took weeks. It really isn't for everyone (including me). I was really hoping to like it back when I downloaded it for the first time 3+ years ago.
-
I played EVE online for about 6 months, mainly just mining. Saving ISK to but the next big mining barge or skill book. I was in Blackwater Federation which is a quite sizable corporation but I just got bored with it. I really couldn't get into the whole space thing I guess. I'm a WW2 guy at heart, so I had to come back here.

Thats about the size of it to me. checked out another video of the incident as well. The in game voice chatter would drive me nuts
-
I love both AH and EvE. I play them both about the same. Both are amazing games. :)

Eve online, one of the worst games ever made, ever.
Scumbags everywhere, thief's, scams and just general bellybutton hats rules the game. Gang bang is the rule of thumb, not the exception. I think i have a 03' player by the same name as my forum name here. But i honestly cannot stand the game the universe the people or anything in it, and it sure as $&%* is not worth the 15$ a month, or even the time to get the ISK to get plex's. "Dont get me started on the chinese ISK farmers who jumped all over that game for YEARS untill they started taking a profit THEN CCP desided they needed to do something and indroduced plex cards" gee thanks guys for saving your own sinking ship two years after a buncha chinamen started cutting holes into your boat.
The entire game is trash, the company who makes it is trash, and most of the people who play it are trash.
STAR CITIZEN, ARRIVE SO YOU CAN STOMP THIS SACK OF CRAP GAME OUT OF EXISTENCE!!!!!

Psh, screw that "trading" stuff. I'd just want to fly a starfighter and blow crap up.
Although Trade Wars back in my BBS days was pretty damn cool. :D

aka you were terrible at EVE and couldn't find anyone good to chill and blow crap up with? until i took my break from most online games i played that game for free and no isk grinding necessary AND i got to have fun blowing ships up. You knew it was a no rules game (minus exploits, RMT, and botting) when you joined

What I don't get, is that it's an MMO, but only three of these ships existed in the hands of three players? Are these players lucky, extremely determined, contest winners, or what to get this privelage?
-
Eve Online is a game I desperately wanted to enjoy, however, at the end of the day it always just felt like work with the risk of losing your hard earned investments to a single mistake. The game is absolutely beautiful, the Eve Universe is HUGE and a lot of the dynamics are really nice, it's just at the end of the day it never held my interest.
Sucks about the guys ship, I can't imagine what the loss of that ship must've meant.

It cost an obscene amount of ISK to purchase, over 300 billion ISK. Takes a very, very long time to grind out that much in-game currency.

I'd probably explore the furthest regions or try to set speed records........then get ganked a billion light years from any help.
