I would like all manned guns to be counted as a death if they are destroyed with a player using one, not that I consider them a great threat it just seems combat should involve a chance of death and quite a few see this as a way of avoiding combat which is in turn bad for gameplay ie combat in a combat sim.
I wouldn't want it counted as a landable kill for the guy in the plane shooting it though.

FYI, I don't believe that they give you perk points for kills obtained when using a manned gun, so it is treated differently in a number of ways.

A vulcher got a little greedy and got his just desserts. I love when that happens. :)

So you are saying that if you destroy a manned gun while in a manned gun you would like it to count as a death? Is that even possible? Maybe CV to CV group. Ah, -1

I have to make the point that if they are sitting in a gun they aren't participating in the main theme of this game aircombat I've lost count of the number of times I have been at an enemy field on my own and 4+ players would rather sit in a manned gun and not get anywhere near hitting me for 10-15 minutes than up a plane there or at another field, its true they do serve a purpose but I seem them used to the extreme in the MA.
I also have to make the point that I get hit by manned ack once in a blue moon, thats not the annoying part, its the increasingly stale gameplay that seems to be driven by not participating in combat, do I really want to spend 10 minutes flying to a field on my own for a load of guys to sit and shoot at me in a manned gun? ermm no ;)

Wouldn't bother me if it counted as a death, but I fail to see how someone shooting at someone else is considered "avoiding combat"? You mean air to air combat?

Well think about it, if 2 people engaged in combat to the death and one could not die it would be a pretty pointless thing. I agree completely with having manned guns I just think in Aces High they are used as a way to avoid death.
-
It wouldn't change anything but the stats page, as a death in a manned gun had no impact of any of the AH scoring categories.
-
I would change if a manned gun is destroyed the player does not land any kills, while in that gun

It would be ok with me if there was no way to "land" kills in the field gun and even if you could be "killed" in one.
Fighters that don't like it when people are in guns probably have the field capped (with friends). If you hover over the field, then it is no wonder people don't want to lift. Why become a statistic to whichever BnZ tardling wins the lottery on you? Getting tag-team BnZ-ed is not a fight at all.
Stay away from the field and A: people will take off and B: you won't get hit by a field gun.
BTW, I wish every gun on the field was a mannable 40mm quad Bofors mount. :devil
-
Don't let them "land" kills, since all they do essentially is let up off the trigger. They don't "land", they don't RTB, they didn't move an inch.
I don't think it should count as a death, since they're so fundamentally different from anything else in the game, but they shouldn't be able to land kills either.

That's harsh.
I think in order for this wish to happen, as I've asked before I'll say it again. Perhaps having the G S or F (Gun Ship or Field) Category have a small perk count to it. Then use those perks to man those purdy quad 88mms/37mms at the strats. Which would be usable for battleships later on (sort of like perked ords, but for battleships, so you want the 8"? Then pay this much of G S or F perks).
Then we can allow deaths for the G S or F, but right now we get no reward from them. Yet everything else we do. We have these better weapons at the strats, and even on the trains there are weapons. So why can't we access them?
It would be nice to have access to these things. I know alot of you "PLANE ONLY" people won't agree, but seriously, why not allow it? Just like portable artillery.
+1 to wish if what I said happens. -1 otherwise.
It does take skill to aim with the 88. If it did not, then anyone could point and click. I find it interesting that you all boldly mock these guns, when they are quite useful and have saved bases from being captured, on all sides.

How is it an agenda wish :headscratch:
No one gave me a logical reason as to why it shouldn't be added. They just said in essence that they didn't like it, and thus because they didn't like it or wouldn't use it, that it shouldn't be added to the game.
Also, Yak-3 was asked for many times, and we finally got it :). Doesn't hurt anyone for me to mention this every now and then. :neener:

Pretty much sums 'er up.

I'll give it a thumbs sideways. I enjoy jumping in guns in a futile attempt to save a field or to try and save a CV but it wouldn't change anything for me if I received a "death" somewhere in the system.
-
Would it really be that hard to avoid the "death" if you .ef really quick? It's extremely easy to tell when you're going to get blown up unless your SA in a field gun sucks. I say +1 to the wish, it's lame waiting for someone to up only to get poked at by 88mm. And flying far away from the field just means they'll grab 10K of alt and BnZ you til you get on their 6 and they run back to ack. A lone fighter plane circling a field means one thing and one thing only: he wants a fight. I've done it before and I'll gladly allow some breathing room for you in order for us to have a good fight.
-
I think if you want people to fly instead of man guns you'd better just get rid of manned guns. Do that and make the game less varied for players of average or below skill and they might just not bother paying 15 dollars. I don't think that getting a computer death is much of a disincentive for people who are used to dying computer deaths anyway.

Fixed. So hovering right over a field gets you a fight? Here's what really happens:
1. As soon a somebody starts their takeoff roll, you swoop down and rocket/cannon vulch him.
2. You wait until he makes it to the end of the runway and then you swoop down on him.
3. If the upper survives enough high speed passes, the former perch-sitter runs home and/or has one of his wingmen pick him.
4. The upper survives enough high speed passes to somewhat equalize e states and the perch guy finally gets the fight he says he wants.
#4 is an aberration in most cases. Maybe in your case as well. Experience tells me most times it will not be #4.
How about instead of directly above, try flying on the side of his field, under 10k and opposite of the side you came from. That would tell him that you're not looking to run home.

Which is exactly what I do. And every time I find a single red on the map next to a field, I jump in that field's tower and 5/10 times, it's a lone fighter circling looking for some one to up. Hell, I gladly announce my intentions over 200 when I go solo to an enemy base when no fights are to be found. Of course, 9/10, I'm met with 3 guys in a 88mm shooting at me refusing to up.

You have more chance of killing guys at your field using aircraft, despite your sigs claim of your prowess in a 37mm, if someone stays fast you have very little chance of shooting them down, you could be upping from that field or another field and spend 10 minutes on climbout to get alt over cons I mean your going to spend 10 + minutes missing in an 88mm anyway.

Like I said. Same wish different thread.
During the puffy ack neutering threads it was always "I don't care if a human kills me. I just don't want a random event to kill me."
Well, manned ack isn't random. Now you want that neutered and you are repeating your old request to get it because you didn't like the way rebuttal went last time. I see you clear fields of ack all the time. God forbid a human mans the gun to stop you.
Yes, and as Lyric said. . . the faster you go the more likely you are to be hit. Just the way it is.

Holy crap! :O Is that with the 37mm? Most I ever got with the 37 was 16 kills.

I see nothing wrong with this wish. For me the anti-air weaponry is just another fun aspect of the game and countable deaths would still allow me to use them as much as I want. On some days I do nothing else but man the ack on different fields/ships. I am a trained anti-aircraft cannon crewmember in reality after all.
From my experience the waiting con over the field often vulches or HOs. I have seen that happen many times. So manning the ack until friendlies arrive from another base doesn`t seem wrong to me. Sometimes I can hear laughter on the vox after another vulcher goes "puff", so some seem to enjoy it.

you just happen to be in field gun for massive bish lawn dart session? :lol
-
Don't see why a manned gun ( any where) should report differently to a GV. It just a fixed Osti really.
-
Manned guns should count as a death to the person using them, and a kill/victory to the guy shooting them when manned.
It's logical nothing more.
-
A lone fighter plane circling a field means one thing and one thing only: he wants a fight.
my main activity in the game is killing people with 37mm field guns. i rarely see just one "looking for a fight". a plane circling a field is looking to vulch. and usually they're so greedy they vulch while the ack is up. that's where i come in.
if they were just looking for a fight, why not go hang out on the edge of the radar ring instead?
-
It just a fixed Osti really.
No 37MM soft gun is far deadlier shoots a lot further & far more accurate. The Osti has a spray pattern & the times I see a round go over then under left & right of an aircraft before it knocks out the main gun in an Osti is frustrating. Although that spray pattern can also save you with that golden BB that just happens to hit when you don't think it should have due to the dispersion pattern.
-

Yes.
I have done better than that this is one of the rare times I was recording.

No mindless nit furball that is very single minded for the Vulch.

Because I'd like to know if I'm about to face a number of planes that I can't handle or not? And I'd rather not have the other guy come at 15K while I'm looking for a fight instead of a BnZ fest. I came to fight, not for suicide. Not going to fight something silly like that.

Could care less either way perk them if you like. I would still use them & if you get the kill & the perk reward as well as a death on my score card :headscratch: I will take some perk points as well.
Only logical after all.
Consider it lucky that the 88's in AHII are nerfed compared to what they could actually do.

Simple.

you can kill a fixed gun with a rocket from a ridiculous range, i see no reason to make it a kill. It earns no points, it can only turn in circles and once destroyed is gone for 15 mins, not instantly back up. If your going to be dumb enough to furball within range of a field, vulch or fly circles around the field you deserve to be shot by someone in a manned gun.
-1

it makes themselves fell better for getting shot down to say it that way.

You honestly think most the people look up see one plane and think he wants a fair even fight? It's more like why should i up low and slow for a BnZ suicide fest. They get in a defensive gun and start spraying and praying, most people can't hit crap with them anyways. It's not like it's the LTAR's knocking everything down within 5k of the field any more.

Shrug, like I said, I up the moment I notice its a fighter plane all by himself. I'll climb in my own ack first and if he stays at the same alt or dives, I come out and have a nice clean fight. It's really not that hard to dodge a BnZ from a single attacker anyway. If that happens, I go back to my field, land and go somewhere else.
-
if the dude in the manned gun hits you, he gets a kill. seems like if you hit the dude in the manned gun you should get a kill.. easy like..
-
Yes, and as Lyric said. . . the faster you go the more likely you are to be hit. Just the way it is.
Hmm yeah its funny I ran some actual tests on likelihood of field ack to hit a p51 and a 190 for the rad tests and I found the complete opposite to be true, your biggest defense against any sort of ack is speed, the faster you go the less likely you are to be hit.

Really? when was the last time you shot me down, I cannot actually remember the last time I got shot down by any 37mm? I think it was a proxy after I couldn't be bothered rtbing, again guys sitting in guns shooting at me for 10 minutes. Its actually even quite easy for me to deack a small field single handed including any man guns firing at me and not have a scratch and plenty of ammo?
Maybe I haven't run into the 'uber' pointy clickers yet who knows? :D

For a small field, I can't imagine it being that hard with something like a 410/B25H/190F8. You can get nearly all of them in safety.

I have some success going through ack on a base a time or two when I have to, but to deack the whole thing without taking damage seems to me a tall order.

F4U-1D, small bombs and 8 rockets from a safe distance. thats 10 guns down easy and make sure you take the manned guns and 88's first, the auto ack isn't as dangerous.

It is hard to shoot down a good flyer with a field gun but the reverse is child's play. Give the field gunner a death for their score but how Dolby, can the kill of a field gun equal the kill of a plane or tank? Seems like that would just encourage even more de-acking and stuff like "Ace51Dog landed two kills (acks) in a 190A8" This would not improve gameplay, but the vulch crowd could really pad their stats (and egos) while landing 20 kill sorties to great fanfare from their sycophants.

Ace51Dog must really suck :cry only 2? Snuggie its like you have forgetten anything I have typed in this thread, go read it back, I couldn't give a stuff about landing anything but air to air kills personally. I am gonna put it in big letters here

When you are facing one plane? No. When facing two or more with half a brain, Yes.
So, are you ok with tanks towering out as the bombs fall?
It's ridiculously easy for an ack to hit a plane coming straight at it to de-ack it.

Only noobs fly straight at the gun emplacement. Those kills are more or less as difficult for both parties. Anyone with a modicum of de-acking experience knows any cannon shell remotely near the gun will kill it, while the gunner needs a direct hit. Crab your plane a bit, tap a quick burst and poof. Field guns are sitting ducks and very easy kills.

Stop yelling at me. I was answering Dolby, if you actually read the paragraph. I simply used your post to illustrate my point.
As for shooting at you: if you are near the field, you will be shot at. I am not going to up under an enemy cap. That would be a waste of my time, to become easy score padding fodder for cherry pickers.
P.S. I will only use the 88 on very rare occasions, as I get about the same number of direct shell hits as puffy kills.
If your fighter gets hit with an 88 - :rofl that's either bad luck or total lack of SA.

Not everyone is in a cannon armed aircraft, what about them? Kills should go to both parties; manned gun and pilot killing a manned gun.
Otherwise if favours the gunner, who loses nothing.
Both are easy to kill, gunner and aircraft.
Giving me a written lesson in de-acking doesn't help because a gunner will counteract the crab and still kill the plane... Your argument is moot.

Only issue I have with cannon armed aircraft is that they only have to hit any where within a fairly large radius(especially 30MM) or so & the gun is toast. Make it the rounds have to land in the pit at least.

the amount of times i've been killed by a manned gun deacking in F4U's and F6F's i can count on one hand for the year. You're over estimating the skill of most the people in them. On the other hand I'd have to look at the achievements to see the ridiculous amount of ack guns I've destroyed, most with .50 cals.
-
This is not difficult to understand. No matter what you are in, if you can kill me in an airplane, I should be rewarded with killing you when I do.
88's don't risk ever going on someone's kill board.
-
seeing as there is no reward for softgun kills besides a name in lights, i see no reason for a rewarded kill. This looks like a complete stat padding wish.
-
I would like all manned guns to be counted as a death if they are destroyed with a player using one, not that I consider them a great threat it just seems combat should involve a chance of death and quite a few see this as a way of avoiding combat which is in turn bad for gameplay ie combat in a combat sim.
I wouldn't want it counted as a landable kill for the guy in the plane shooting it though.
The whole enchilada doesn't make sense to me (and lookin through this thread, I don't seem to be alone):
-The AAA gunner risks nothing but gains nothing, but is still participating (sometimes with notable impact) in combat with others who are.
-The AAA gunner lands his kills in lights, despite the reason for retreating to the tower (death, no ammo, victory (enemy retreat), enemy captured field, etc.).
-The "targets" for the AAA gunner can choose not to participate with them (fly/drive away... futile since the player can quickly move to the new target/base), but if they do and then get shot down by a player-manned AAA, the established logic seems to be "shame on them for NOT AVOIDING that fight/field/situation". This just seems wrong/broken to me. Why do we never see/hear from the pilots and GV drivers in country or 200 about the shortsightedness of the involved AAA gunners on the ground?
-The level of impact/power a risk-less shore battery or 8" gunner can have against those involved in riskier activities in the imediate area is a bit askewed (we can disable them and knock them out before they present a problem, but that's a risk investment. one or a few players could be on standby to take it down if it respawns and before it does any major damage, but that's a risk investment for them, especialy as they loiter heavy (ac) or stationary (gvs) in a very hot/active combat area. I see some logic when it's riskless shore batteries vs riskless 8"ers in a duel - but their impact is so very rarely limited to only other riskless player activities in that imediate area.)
And more but similar. Not so much a problem as it is a square peg in the round hole - it just doesn't seem to be fitting where it should.
I don't think counting manned-AAA kills as landable would do any good alone to fix this, but if it plays a part then so be it.
Keep that Dora time high Pervert. :salute

seeing as there is no reward for softgun kills besides a name in lights, i see no reason for a rewarded kill. This looks like a complete stat padding wish.
What no award? How about the reward that he gets to kill someone? Is not the kill itself an award? Of course it is.

I should be rewarded with killing you when I do.
You do in the shape of perk points.
-
Isn't it the same amount of perk points if it's shooting at you or not, though?

Not sure. But it isn't alot. However, it's more of a reward (even though quite small), than what the gunners get.

yes, you get points for shooting empty seats.
