While I tend to stick with a single plane each Tour, anyone who knows me well knows that I get bored easily.
The last month or so I've been flying the Zeke family, primarily because:
a.) In my eight years playing this game I've had very little stick time with the Zeke, and
b.) despite its agility, it's a challenge to fight and survive in because it's slow. Also, it is the WWII version of the Ford Pinto*.
It's been fun...but sadly, I am now I'm getting bored again. I blame it on my A.D.D. :D
So I want to throw a few questions out to the understanding, unemotional, mature, and helpful "General Discussion" readers:
- What plane would you suggest I try next? **
- Why do you make this suggestion? ***
- What factors will I need to take into consideration to be successful with this plane? ****
My thanks in advance.

* For those kiddies too young to remember the Pinto, you may find the following article informative: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/news/industry/top-automotive-engineering-failures-ford-pinto-fuel-tanks (http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/news/industry/top-automotive-engineering-failures-ford-pinto-fuel-tanks)
** Suggestions that I should stop flying fighters because "you suckzor at ACM" will be ignored. I'm well aware of, and am comfortable with, my extremely limited and generally laughable skill set.
*** Please, do try to be a bit more specific than "Because it's awesome / da bomb / knarley , dude!"

F4U.
It's big, it's blue, it has a tail hook and six .50s (or 4 20MM if you CHog).
And it's just plane-sexy.
-
Bf 109 G-6 with gondolas and 100% fuel load. Slow, stiff, turns like a cow in Calcutta, compresses in diving. A perfect excuse for not being successful in turn fights. But if you manage to hit something, there'll be a satisfactory bang.

cant go wrong with the Ki84.
very good fighter...does everything but run great...
very fast firing cannons...300 rnds go fast so quick bursts into cockpit....makes many a spit/brew pilot gnash there teeth.
keep it under 500..... the sweet spot seems right around 300......
she absolutely loves the vertical
if you find that you have stalled it out and are floating backwards(I have gotten it as lo as 48 mph without the backwards stall) ....the ONLY way to get out of it is to kill engine.)
:salute
-
Fly the P47.
Only true men like big jugs. :D
-
Because they are fun:
P-40
P-39
Ki-61
Yak7
-
try out the P-20 :noid
-
if you find that you have stalled it out and are floating backwards...
Thanks INK!
Slightly off topic...the situation above is a viable defensive tactic with the A6M3 (I haven't tried it with the A6M2 or A6M5) with less than a 50% fuel load. Hard right rudder below 180mph, stick to 7 O'clock position, she will flip over backwards. Unlike the Ki...she will keep on going. Be aware if you are low to the ground that you you need to extend flaps one notch once the flip is complete as you will lose about 100 feet of alt before she stablizes.
Fun for overshoots and just generally being annoying to the typical MA hordelings! :D :aok

P-39 Agree. Massive fun. BIG TATERS!
Ki-61 Hmmmmmmm.....interesting!
Yak7 No idea what to expect.....never been in one.

try out the P-20 :noid
Sadly, it only qualifies as a figher when you fly it. ;)

Do not fly the Ki84. It sucks :old:

But.....but.....but......the wings are bent!! :D
I just don't "get" the Hog. I know its a great plane...I know lots of people love it...this is my issue. I've tried and tried....but it never feels right to me.

KI counter controls much much better than any other plane but the K4. With the right altitude, you can make the KI vanish in a right turn when you see the attacker pull lead for the shot. It's amazing.
-
The ki-43 in late war is a blast. In a turn fight, you can get close enough to perform amputations.
-

- The C202
- Because I think it would be great fun to see you empty your entire clip into one plane and not get the kill
- You'll be forced to consume large amounts of alcohol in order to have fun flying it. Make sure you have a sufficient support structure in place to overcome your pending addiction after being drunk for an entire tour.

190A8

190A8
:aok
Id suggest the 47D40, yak9U, spit 14, 109g6/14, and if your feeling ballsy, the SBD
-
No... really, fly the 205 :)
It's challenging but not gawd awfully frustrating. A well flown 205 is both rare and delightful to fly against.
It reminds me of a knockoff Swiss Army knife. All the tools are there but they're kinda dull. It's always struck me as a capable plane that requires above average decision making to be successful with.
-
Me410, because it is very, very different from the A6M.
-
Me410, because it is very, very different from the A6M.
I flew the 410 a lot last year. Got some surprising kills in it....well....surprising for the other guy. ;)
Different is good, BTW. I was tempted to fly the Ki43 for a while as I've only taken it up once or twice, and then only in the DA. I'd likely get bored quickly as I feel it's a Zeke with a better turn rate, less firepower and slightly lower tendency to do a Hindenburg imitation under fire.
-
I flew the C202 for the most part of 162, I had a blast and since not that many people fly it, its always fun to say you were the most successful person in that plane for the tour, as of now, I have been spending some time in the Ki-61 and what great fun it is to fly, its a fun challenge in LW, but TBH its just inferior in the DA unless you are against something really bad, because like the P-38 is sort of good at everything but not amazing at anything, the Ki- isn't really good at anything, but it isn't horribly bad at anything either :lol
-
I focused on the P38J and C.205 one tour, surprisingly made #1 in fighters flying the 205. Its a great little bird, I even took the 202 up for a few spins and even managed 7 kills in one sortie!
I like the Pre war era, you die a ton, but the experience and SA gained throws you off balance when you hop into something like the P51 the next tour, its almost like going from a WW1 aircraft to Korea.

Then Mosquito Mk VI because it is also very different and it is fun.

I used to fly the 205 quite a bit....its really fun. I agree with your "dull knife" assessment. That being said, I'd rather jab red hot nails into my eyesockets than fly the 202. I like a challenge....but not to the point of frustration bordering on a nervous breakdown. :lol :joystick:

47D40 hmmmmmm....
yak9U Been there, done that, got the tee shirt.
spit 14 Been there, done that, got the tee shirt 2 - the sequel. Flew this like mad for several months after it went “legit” (i.e. was un-perked).
109g6/14 Still thinking about the G6, which I rarely fly. I fly the G14 off and on every few months. Liking the idea with gondolas... :D
SBD Nah.
190A8
Interesting......very very interesting. :aok
-
Then Mosquito Mk VI because it is also very different and it is fun.
I'm strongly considering it. I flew it early last year for like two months and had a blast. I'll never reach your level of skill with it... but it is fun to pop the occasional Spitteen or Pony with.

Sure you will. I play so rarely now that my rusty rust has rust.
I was good once upon a time, but never like Mechanic or thrila.

KI61 all day long.....cause if a 2 engine 38 dweeb like me likes it....you know it has to be good :D
Seriously though, give the Tony a whirl....it really is a fun plane to fly...some of the best fights ive had in game were when i was in the KI61 :aok

we gotta do some more LA vs KI....you are one of the very few who know how to fly that plane...and its awesome to see and go against :salute

K4 yo
*snort* Noob plane. Everyone flies them. Getting as bad as the Spitteen.
:lol The look I am visualizing on RB's face as he read that. Priceless. :D
Kidding. Love the K4. Handles great...fast...climbs like a bat out of hell. My issue is the big tater tossin' gun. I'm am a average shot (at best)...but i just can't hit anything consistantly. That's the main reason I fly the G14 more often.
Strangely, I can hit fairly often with the same gun in the Ta152....but I think that has more to do with the extra 30 rounds of ammo. I also find it easier to get shot angles that compliment the 30mm in the 152 than I do in the K4.

Several options depending on your needs
Case 1:
-------
- What: I-16
- Why: because it is hard plane to win in - very challenging
- Factors: Basically same factors as for Zeke but unlike Zeke it does not burn into flames when it is pinged with a single bullet.
Case 2:
--------
- What: Me-262
- Why: because it has total air superiority over anything in AH2
- Factors: horrible Mk 108 ballistics, superior speed and acceleration on medium/high speeds
Case 3:
-------
- What: Ki-67
- Why: it is bomber that you aren't bored with: exceptional climb rate good defense, excellent speed.
- Factors: planning, planning, planning: you can easily penetrate hard defenses and escape and on the way back to shutdown somebody who tries to get you and ends in 6 o'clock attack against 20mm canon.
Case 4:
-------
- What: ardo 234
- Why: it is fun plane to fly - penetrates anywhere, virtually untouchable, fun to scare a hell of Me-163 trying to get on its 6 and afraid of rear 20mm canons
- Factors: getting used to it - takeoff and landing in inexperienced hands are hard, but actually quite easy + planning, don't take formations.

My thoughts:
Case 1: Still considering this one. Agree it would be a lot like a zeke, minus the unfortunate matchstick tendencies.
Case 2: Perks? We don't need no stinking perks!?! Seriously....I'm not a nozzle-jockey....and I rarely fly perkies.
Case 3: Hey! This is a bomber! Wait....you mean you can FLY BOMBERS IN THIS GAME?!?!?! Who knew?!!? :D
Case 4: Please combine comments from Case 2 and Case 3. :aok :lol

Too noobish. I have a rep to maintain....granted it is not a good one...but still! :D
Kidding. In all seriousness....I'll likely fly this in a few months once the "new plane fever" dies down. Flew it last night in the DA...fun and fast...I had a hard time slowing it down! :joystick:

Put up a poll of several plane choices and let the chips fall! :old:

I thought about posting a poll...but was concerned I'd end up cornered into flying a goon or something. GAH!
I'll make a choice by next tour. Right now I'm leaning towards a 190A5/A8....unless Pepprr can convince me to fly the dreaded Pink Spitfire (a.k.a. The PeptoSpit*). :D

B25H, don't laugh, 25% fuel, no bombs, and the giant canon. Damn lethal either up close with 50s or far away with the canon. Makes a great base defense when fighters are down. Killed two reds last night with the canon on long shots. One lucky shot, and kaboom. Tough too.

Hmm.... :headscratch: You mentioned you'd get bored with something if it was too similar to the Zero. The I-16 is just such a plane, only with REAL short legs and lack of fire. If you want something different from the Zero type, I'd say go with something heavy like the Mossie, P-38L or 110C. I would put the 410 in there, but you said you put a lot of time into her already. IF you go with the 190 in the end, go with the A8. :aok
