It would:
1. Make IL-2 much more popular
2. Make GV hunting much more fun
3. Make it is closer to historical use of IL-2 bombs
-
Its been asked for before. Could you imagine the whinging by the GV crowd? If even close to accurate modeling they would devastate the games armor as they did in real life.
-
Excellent idea. To go along with it remove GV icons completely. Wait ... that might cause whinging by the ground attack crowd ...

Yeah, big negative on that one.
Game play would require the IL2 not have any GV icons. And based on the whining, your typical AH player's eyesight is too poor to even be aware of their existence without that magical red text.

I bet you would be all for it if it was a german bomb.....

He wouldn't. It would negatively impact his GVing and that will take priority for him.

Denying the IL2 the PTAB is like denying the Tiger II the 8.8cm KwK43.
Perk it by all means but don't neuter it.........
The IL2 was so effective due to its use of PTAB's not it's rockets, not its 250kg bombs, not its 23 or 37mm cannon.
I can understand that modelling the effect of 48 x 1.5 KG shaped charges may be challenging. Particularly if 4 of the canisters are dropped at once..... But to deny it for any other reason would be a gross error IMO.
-
If we get perked ordnance, sure. But asking for the bomb before the entire system overhaul (which should entail a lot of new loadouts for a number of planes) is putting horse behind the cart.

Doesn't matter how good the PTAB was, it served in world war two. This just means Campers need to do a better job hiding and tanks need to roll with wirbls after all one wirb with its magical guns defeats an IL-2.

What game are you playing, exactly? The Wirbelwind is nowhere near as effective as you would have us all believe.
The primary problem is the ineptitude of most attackers.
-
I'm all for adding a perked ordnance option for the PTAB and other cluster bomb type munitions that were used during the war. I would also like to see parafrag bombs added as well as a perked ordnance option.
ack-ack

I stick my 8 K/D ratio in the whirb against whatever argument you might try to come up with to say otherwise. (and thats just tallying up for 8 tours not to mention my entire time playing).
Seriously though, I know your love for luftwobble and German iron so I am not going to even bother explaining why the Whirb is a little overpowered, so I am just going to leave it at that.
There is another thread that explains how the Whirb has Clips for its guns, and not continuous fire until it runs dry, maybe look up that thread.
-
So your personal KTD determines what average is in AH?
And I'm all for reload times. I made a thread asking for it, and it got shot down. Still doesn't mean the Wirbelwind is effective at protecting other vehicles. Especially other vehicles that aren't right near by it.

Really you made a thread to neuter the Wirb? lol It does wonders now the GV icon range was dumbed down a bit, before it was easy to stay away from Wirbs, now you have to hope you don't fly around one.
It does just fine defending vehicles within 1.5k, given the size of the GV battlefield, two wirbs can cover most the area GV's operate in.
Even with bombs, you have to get close enough to be in range of a wirb, unless you dive straight down on one, your glide path makes you an easy target.

LOL.. GV isolationist whiners crying that the GV icons would need removing if this was added... It is "to laugh"...
ptab or not, GVs were wiped off the face of the earth in any area where the enemy forces had complete air superiority (not a term that existed at the time, but one I'll use nonetheless). The same holds true in AH. Disabling GV icons was simply to pander to the VERY vocal minority of whiners and cryers that literally sh** a brick if a plane was spotted anywhere near them. Why? Because they were spawn camping somewhere and got shot. They were perfectly ranged in to pop easy targets and got bombed.
Funny thing is, even with just 1 or 2 friendly planes in the air over them it would entirely STOP this decimation from enemy air assets, but they didn't care about things like logic, reality, historic accuracy, or even the optics of eyesight or the physics of light reflecting off of objects into the eyeball. Nah... Can't let all those details get in the way of their camping spot at tank-town.
GV whiners are ruining this game. Make the icons 20K, and just prove to them it's not about icons. It's about their lack of spine and how they play. I truly hope they find happiness -- but only if they all go play World of Tanks instead of Aces High.
While we're at it, add the PTAB for the IL2! It's really kind of useless without long armored tank convoys on narrow roads which boxes all the targets into one kill-zone. That's why they were so useful to the Soviets in WW2. In here? Probably see very limited success.

I was a GV'er for a while, its actually a big part of the game and does take some skill. Those whiners come and go, but like LTAR showed a decent gv group can knock down a base without a problem even with air support.
-
I, personally, think they have a great place in the game.
I also, personally, think they are being used in such a way as to ruin the game.
What you describe is great. It's also the rarest of the rare when you consider GV mentality in this game.

The effective range of the Wirb is really only 1k unless you're flying straight at it. And no, a GV battle can easily cover 6K.
Also, you only have to "hope" if you're hugging the trees. Otherwise you will not be shot down except through bad luck.
I firmly maintain that you must be either unlucky, or stupid to be routinely shot down by wirblwinds.

Well this is true, many players refuse to understand what a 2.5k hard deck means, if they learned that simple rule no wirb would get a kill, but the routine whiners I see are ones who try to vulch in a bee hive.
After looking at my stats I see nothing to complain about - in 1000 kills in fighters, I have only 7 deaths to wirbs, then again I do follow my own rules most of the time.
This excludes Il-2s or A20s - with a variety of aircraft (perked, to 40 eny).
Same stats go for bombing ground vehicles, one tour I have 700 kills in a Panther, for 6 deaths to bombs.
Used right there shouldn't be complaining, you only hope to catch the other one napping.

Classic foaming-at-the-mouth Krusty post. Thanks for that; it really made my day. :)

More thoughtless insults from tdeacon, thanks that made my day.

Here is a video of it in action - just a short clip but it gives one an idea on how truly effective it was. :rock

German armour divisions were forced to drastically change their formation tactics as a result of this weapon entering the battlefield. It was also highly effective against open troops, but thats a different discussion for a different game.

Actually, I did put some thought into it. I started out composing a point-by-point response. However, it turned out that too many of the your statements in that post were clearly emotionally driven, such that rational responses would have looked foolish (kind of like responding to a troll). Actually, I doubt you actually believe half of what you posted, once you calmed down. So I ended up just laughing it off.
Although you probably don't much care, FYI, overall, I greatly value the stuff you post in the Forums. Just not that particular one...

PTAB +1

+1 to the PTABs. It'd be cool to kill a spawn camp with just a few passes.
Waits patiently for Tank Ace to give up on his Luftweenie and German tank argument. He's always gotta be right, doesn't he?
-
Was there a salvo setting for dropping PTAB's in IL-2 irl?
Can it be dropped not just sequentially (cassette 1-2-3-4) but all at once?
-
I would also like to see parafrag bombs added as well as a perked ordnance option.

i agree with my esteemed colleague

I don't quite understand what PTAB is,Could someone explain? :uhoh

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PTAB
It is a cluster bomb that consists of small shaped charge bombs - such that even a single bomb would penetrate the armor.
Think of dropping 100 RPG from above in free fall... Devastating effect. If one PTAB is dropped on a column of tanks it can destroy several of them in one shot.
It was very important and powerful ammunition in Kursk battle
