To take a break from usual defending against rook/bishop hordes, brilliant knight masterminds (Rollo) came up with a foolproof plan!
We shall ride pt boats straight into rook strats! No one will see it coming!
Situation was perfect, we had a base near the long river that goes straight into the heart of rook nation:
A rag tag team was quickly assembled at the spawn, 6 brave sailors ready to do what no one has done before in Aces High.
6 of set full throttle forward and started our 2 hour long (I think so, didn't really pay attention) journey...
As we neared the dangerous shores, some saw the shore too late. Sakijoe was the first victim to the deadly shores.
Not 1 minute later, we lose Hawk97 to the shores... And we are down to 4 boats, but we push on!
We decided to group tightly, me leading the way and guiding us through the narrow river.
We sailed for a loong time, talked about literally everything, from life to planes, watched the skies above us, had friendlies pass low over our heads... Really fun time on a really long ride.
Then, after nearly 2 hours, we see the burning rook factories and cities:

Unfortunately, we do not make it past the first 500 meters into the factories. I, leading the way, die first, tower acks prove deadlier than expected, and we did not see them from the river bend and houses...
Soon, MRJumper runs ashore too...
I quickly rejoin EWM as his gunner on a boat, as he loses his engines from ground:

We fight the tower ack for a while, then I leave them to their destiny, and go on bbs to tell the tale of 6 brave men that took the journey, and never returned.
Classic story of knight bravery and ultimate failure.
All in all, I'm glad I resubscribed.

:rofl you incompetent boobs! In 2 hours of chitchat no one thought about the ack?!
Welcome back Croduh...glad you resubscribed. Now come to Rooks because those Nits are dumber then a bag of hammers. :rofl

Now that's cool! A story with pictures. I felt like I was there. Very familiar with failing and then re visiting the tower. There is a bunk in the corner if you haven't noticed. it's mine. :rofl

I resent that statement :old:

Best story I've read in a while. :aok

Thx for sharing the adventure! :aok

Reminds me of the time that a few of us drove T34s (because of their speed) for two hours to get to a strat (this was around 2007, so a the strats weren't grouped together).

LOL sounded fun with those t-34

Next time you guys plan something that involves a long time driving of any vehicle, ring me up in the arena.
I will gladly fly a c47 8 sectors NOE to drop 10 supply boxes so a M4 can take down enemy HQ 3 times and still have enough to rumble on to the city and down one strat complex to near zero.

It was quite fun. I want to say it was an ammo factory. We were there long enough to destroy it completely. Like icepac, a squaddie was kind enough to bring us supplies. What was odd was nobody even bothered us. We figured someone would come in and bomb us. Throughout the years (when I played regularly and before all the strats were grouped together) I have made the long drive to a strat in a tank with friends. It's really fun when there's very few people online and you can't find a fight anywhere.

This. :rofl What a great mission. Wish I was around to of participated or helped with the ack towers (they're pretty satisfying targets to me when slamming a 500lber directly into them).
And nice edit Uptown, but at least we've done something else in the last ten-years besides horde or come into furballs at 20k. :ahand

Nice AAR. :aok

:lol I'm not going to respond to that as I don't want to hijack the good mans PT fun thread. I'll catch ya another time ;)

The screenshots remind me of the patrol boats going up river in Apocolypse Now. All you needed was some guy water skiing behind one.

I've done excruciatingly long GV missions on several occasions. I've gone to strats, to remote bases, etc.
Once back in AHI on the original Pizza map I finished a mission and just as I was getting back to base it was captured. I continued on to the next base and the same thing happened. And it happened two or three more times. After four hours of driving our entire section of the Pizza was captured and I had to ditch.
Also, on the big map with all the islands I took off on a PT mission one day. I covered at least half the map over about a six hour sortie, rocketing strats (when they were spread out) and getting 3-4 aircraft kills along the way before finally rendezvousing with a CV to land successfully.
I like those types of missions but I rarely have that much time available anymore.

That is mission dedication.
Was that also when they had auto heading for Gv's?

Actually it's still that way as long as you don't run into something that will stop you. Just point and go.

Great Idea, a PT boat raid. I was just thinking someone should make a map with rivers and PT boat spawns so we can use the PT boats for more than just chasing down a CV (admittedly this was shortly after watching Apocalypse Now). Glad to see some one made use of those rivers. :aok

:salute awesome guys. My grandfather served on a Pt in the Philippines so I get a spot in my heart for those speed boats of death

Bangs: There is a old Pt boat converted to an offshore fishing vessel that runs trips year round in S. Cal. In the "prime" offshore season for tuna and other pelagics they are out of San Diego and the rest of the year Channel Islands (Oxnard.) Someday I'd like to get a chat in with the Capt/owner about its history. On the wall in the galley is the original blueprint for the boat and has a date stamp of '42 (iirc.) In case you ever get a chance: www.Ranger85.com

Thanks for the info. There is also another one in the Florida keys that's part of a museum.

Our extended family has been visiting ocean city, NJ since the 1940s for about 2 weeks every year and a converted PT boat ride was what I looked forward to as a kid.
I also spent a lot of time pestering the old man who owned it and got put to work.
At the age of 11, the owner was telling me what he did to increase the total boat horsepower to 5400 from 4200 and I later used that knowledge to talk my way into the crew of a couple of unlimited hydroplane teams when they came to miami marine stadium.
It's probably what sent me down the hotrodding engines path resulting in engine management system design work I do at this time.
I missed the pilgrimage this year for only the third time in my life.
