GV'ers always take the shortest route between point A and point B because it takes so long to get anywhere. Mines would get the GV'ers to take the routes out on the flank, the areas less traveled. It would add to the game.
Good idea. I hope HiTech will consider it. Spawn campers would be very careful where they parked.  :D

The vehicles for delivery would be the M-3, Sd.Kfz.251, and the Jeep. How 'bout the M-8 as well? Each vehicles would carry a different load out. Mines last 15-30 minutes after deployment. Invisible to the enemy or there would be a marker only visible to friendlies.

Yes, I think I will whine a bit about this one.

Perhaps it sounds cool from the mine-layer's perspective, but it does add what is essentially a random chance of being destroyed/disabled for the intended victims.  So, from their perspective, it would be kind of frustrating.  Depending on where they are laid, I can see this as being a major griefing mechanism.  For example, what if you walled off a VBase or spawn point?  Or laid them at the crest of a hill where GVs like to perch (like that one in OzKansas to the north of the central area)?  Many of the best GVing locations have a fairly limited set of travel routes.  What if you induced an enemy to chase you, and laid mines in his path?  Etc.

the spawn campers would just lay mines on the spawns...unless htc changes the way spawn points work, no thanks.

An interesting idea on the surface, but in addition to the objections already listed, there are practical reasons for not using these in an MMO.  Think of the comm hit this could cause?  Even if you made them time-limited, this would be a huge drag on the network traffic.  Also, if you add something like this, you must also add the counter to it, i.e. mine-clearing operations.  Otherwise, it would be like adding submarines to the game but not anti-submarine warfare elements like sonar and depth charges.  Mines were typically used as a static defense, where everyone on the laying side was supposed to know the extent of the mine belt and the safe lanes through them; still it was not at all atypical for friendly casualties to result.  That probability would be much higher in AH, I would think.  While land mines (and sea mines) were a historically significant aspect of WWII combat, I don't think they lend themselves well to our sim world.  Someday, perhaps, but not at present.  A applaud your courage in suggesting it, however. :salute

I'm against anything that you can dump into an area, then remove yourself from any chance of
danger and still get "kills".  The mines would be semi-magikal as the terrain doesn't give you the visual
cues that might enable you to avoid them.  Also as mentioned there are no mine clearing methods
available either..other than the most basic..land on it..BOOM, cleared.

Certainly be alot more fun for the layer than the layee and the griefing potential is enormous with
even the smallest amount of effort used.

Only if they can be detected and countered.

I like to have ship-mines so CV can not go so close it can use its 5" against planes over field.

-1 to any type of mines. They are a pita in fps games and would probably be here too.

Mine fields are a great tool for anti tank warfare. Not just when a tank runs over a mine but also to funnel them into a killing zone where you have set up anti tank guns. Mines can protect your flanks when fighting out numbers and slows or denies assess to roads. I was trained in land mine warfare fighting armor as Infantry with mine and tank traps. I was an instructor in a school called, To Catch A Tank at Ft. Polk LA for a time. However I am not sure land mine warfare is for Aces High. I do think HTC is missing a big market by not developing a Tank arena like WoT since tank play in Aces High is already superior to WoT.

Some things to consider..

Freshly laid mines are quite visible, no matter how you try to hide them..
Mines are always laid in a pattern, and that pattern of disruption of the ground
is easily visible.. The longer they are in place, natural weathering of the ground
will make them vanish.. Just like animal tracks.. But it doesn't happen overnight..
Considering the time frame in this game, they should not be "Invisible"..
Mines are an "Area denial weapon", and that would be their effect in game..

Mines are ALWAYS laid in a orderly pattern.. Not only to make them more effective,
but to make it possible to PICK THEM UP.. Range diagrams showing their location,
the borders of the minefield, and listing the Numbers and Types are ALWAYS filed
with the engineer command structure.. So they can be marked on the "Detailed Maps"
used by planners.. (Special Maps we should have for ground Combat)

Love the Idea in General, but IMO, NO MINES WITHOUT SAPPERS!
This should come with an "Engineer Function" in the game..

It's their Gig!

Edit: Also, Mines have NO FRIENDS, just like a Smokin Hand Grenade..

On its own merit this is a good idea but related to game play I think theres a thresh hold of "ways to kill the enemy" which I think once passed takes away from the game. For instance BF3. There are so many ways, using so many weapons, to kill the enemy the game is made far to arcade. Besides these mines would be so visible and the terrain in AH is usually kinda featureless it would be kinda meaningless and a waste of modeling time.

As I said its not a bad idea and would be quite realistic. Mines for tanks are very effective in actual war. But Ive never played a game where they actually add to a game.
