Greetings all. I am new to Aces High, but not new to Combat Flight sims. I cut my teeth on CFS1, playing on the Microsoft Gamers Network, 13 years ago. I even repainted a lot of planes back then, and I called the 'Die Staffel' planes. Anyway, its been a while and I have now retired and looking at playing again. My, how things have changed. I am trying to fly these planes, but the dammed things run along the runway, but just wont get speed up, no matter how much I hit the accelerator. I will have to work it out soon. I also downloaded teamspeak.
I have also created a website for aircraft of World War 2. It is still in the development stage, as I am putting the final stage up in October. I will be adding new planes to it regularly as well as monthly calanders based on screenshots people send me. You can find the site at www.warintheskies.com (http://www.warintheskies.com)
Thanks

welcome :salute
the Aces High trainers page (linked from the main AH homepage) might be useful for you in getting controls set up etc, I know it was very helpful to me when i was new

but just wont get speed up, no matter how much I hit the accelerator.
If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that you programmed RPM controls to an analog control and it is at the minimum position (or you need to invert the axis).
If you have questions, most people in this game will bend over backwards to help you out.

Agreed with the reverse axis. Welcome Barfly!
Beware those that bend over forward to show how much an ahole they are.

Welcome. Many are going to tell you it's a steep learning curve, but it's cliche, and that doesn't really tell you anything. A good suggestion made to me was to get to know every fighter and then you can formulate how to counter them. You can do a lot to help yourself, and shorten the curve by meeting up with a trainer. If you put a post on the Help/Training page re: what you want help with and when you are available, they will help you get a good head start. I too came from a background of MSCF(s) and found there to be many differences, it may surprise you, it did me.
If you see me on and would like some help with initial type stuff, like setting up your cockpit views, etc. I'll try to help where I'm able. Basic fighter maneuvers % combat maneuvers are best left to learn from the expert trainers...
As mentioned the trainers page is a great place to visit and also in the beginning I found the Musketeers website (Aces High related info) to be very helpful.
Good luck.

My rudder pedals need to have the brakes applied before they will release in game. Tapping the brake pedals once allows my planes to get up to speed.
-
If you hit the number 2 on the keypad, you can see the throttle which moves with your controls in some planes.
Then you can make sure it follows your control inputs exactly.
I also use f3 mode and the [ and ] keys to get my point of view right behind my plane on the runway when I am setting up my flight stick scaling and other settings so I can get a good view of what the sim thinks I am doing with the stick.
-
Basil,
welcome to AH,I too played MSCF series games back when, maybe we flew together!
Anyways,if you find the Training arena look me up I hang out there and try to help both the new guys and some of the old hands. If you have any questions or need help please post in the help and training forum, you'll get the answers you are looking for there.
Check out the trainers site. http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/
This may help you with basic setup of controls, ground vehicles use the basic AWSD system but can be mapped to any controller.

I got no problem with that. I have a website, too. :D

Nice looking page and easy to navigate. :aok

Thanks,
no, its not a brag page, though I have put so much work into it. Between putting in new gardens, I also have a disabled wife, so being a carer, I am trying to find things to do. No I seem to have so much to do and surprisingly, leaning how to do a modern website has been a lot of fun. I make my own graphics, recolor photos, research data and just when I think I have it nailed, I learn something new and start another upgrade sequence. As such, I have something I want to put in my next upgrade since I found out about css. I used to design websites back in the 90's, so my first attempt in 2013 was dismal. Now I am learning all over again. I have put a forum up, so you can brag about how this game is better than the other 2 flight sims. I would love to hear from you in the forum. I am also planning new changes for my site again, to include something I thing is great. I figure a bit of a brag between the flight sims could be fun. Also, it is a place where new pilots might be able to join in.
I do hope to find some spare time to get back into the game, it looks so promising. I would love to get some screenshots so I can put up next months calendar. I have many from one other sim, but I would like to vary them.
Anyway, any feedback would be really helpful.
Thanks

Hey guys,
well, I have done it again. I went and upgraded my website again. I found out how to do some really nice stuff and I thought I would incorporate it. Also, I have got into designing world war 2 memorabilia and can then put the images onto T shirts, plates, even clocks. Check it out. I would love some feedback. Also, I do have a forum, but so far, nobody has joined it. Just would be nice to have something there besides my stuff.

Added a new review:- http://www.warintheskies.com/aircraft/H6K.html The H6K 'Mavis'. I had hoped that there would have been a little more feedback, comments or anything, however, nobody has joined my forum, nobody has commented on even this site, nothing. I will just focus now on my new business and just leave my site as some sort of reference hobby site. I will add the occasional plane and post here.
Thanks

Well put together website. Lots of info. :aok

OK, I have now got the new calendar wallpaper for November, thanks to Japko(War Thunder). I have also added the Dornier Do217 to Luftwaffe aircraft. If anyone wants to enter an image, they can go to the website and go to the forum and upload an image there.
Thanks

I am actually using a Microsoft Sidewinder, dated 1999! It still works, though it is supposed to be connected to a gameport at the back of the PC, it is connected to a jumper cable the plugs into a USB port. Windows 7 recognises it, but there are problems with the hat as it just doesnt do a 360 anymore. Also, my 14yo Pixma iP1000 printer, same time period also died this week, so maybe I had better buy some replacments.

Hi,
I have now made the USA link to its own subsite as there are so many planes of the USA. I have just added the B-17 and will be doing the B24, B25, B29, and probably a few more. I want to also do the Navy bombers, like the Dauntless SBD, Devestator, Hedlldiver and Avenger. I also am looking at the Ju88 for the Germans, the Nell, Ki63 Tony and Nate for the Japanese, the Pe-2 for the Russians and finishing off with the Lancaster, Beaufort, Beaufighter and the Boomerang to finish off the website.
I may then look at AFV's. Also, instead of calendars of screenshots of someone, I am going to do some nostalgic posters of US bomber nose art each month. Perhaps a sexy woman might peak some interest?
thanks

One inaccuracy I noted is that you state the Bf 109G-2 carried machine guns in the wing. It never did so, the machine guns were mounted in the cowl.

I am just trying to help by providing a website with references to the most popular planes of World War 2. I dont understand the hostility.

Greetings guys,
I have added something a little new and I thought I would like you guys to give me some feedback. I have made this T-shirt available through my website on the Bf 109 page:http://www.warintheskies.com/aircraft/Bf109.html (http://www.warintheskies.com/aircraft/Bf109.html) on the left side under Sazzle. Click on the Bf109 Tshirt which takes you to my page at Sazzle and you can edit your own text on the Tshirt, personalising it for you. If there is enough interest, I will do personalised images for anyone asking.
Please have a look and see what you think.
Thanks

A few other inaccuracies I noted is that you state the K4 uses the DB 605A (S/C/M), when it used the DB 605DM on early models, with the most common engine being the 605DC engine.
Also, the K-4 used the same Erla-haube canopy as seen on the G-6 onward.
Also, no 190's were sent to North Afrika, as far as I can recall.

Weren't the 190's found unsuitable to combat in North Afrika due to engine overheating?

No.

I have replaced all expanded 3views with new color 3 views. Have a look at the combat colors they flew in.

I have rechecked. Various sources say similar information, however, at that time of the war, a lack of raw material(aluminium), factory bombing and field modifications combined with inaccurate records make it difficult at best. Early K-4's were powered by the DB 605AS engines, however, my resources do not state how long they were used until the redesign was incorporated for the DB 605D engines(availablity?) and sources indicate that around 1,600 K-4's were delivered. The 'Galland Hood' was made to suit the G-6, however was more incorporated into the G-14 and G-10, whereas it was standard on the K-4.
I hope this helps clear things up.

Some early K4's used the 605AS engine, but mostly the very very early ones. Once the DM became available, they were used alongside the AS engines, with fewer AS engines being used as time progressed, and the newer engines became available.
IIRC, the AS had pretty much disappeared from new K4's by mid October, at which point the DC engine began appearing in significant quantities, and was used alongside the 605DM engine.

Greetings,
It seems all I get is hostility for trying to provide references for planes. This is the second forum today where someone has criticised my contribution towards giving players a reference of planes of WW2. Perhaps when it comes time for renewal, I will just let it lapse as everyone seems to be just slagging off at people trying to help.
Merry christmas to you as well.

Well it does seem that all your trying to do is sell stuff. You DID avoid the question of whether or not you play the game. You bring it on your self it seems to me.
-
Someone posted a question about whether you actively play Aces High. What you post on
your own site forum appears to indicate that your opinion of AHII is poor, to say the least.
The Wikipedia information you provide on your website lacks credit to the source(s). For all
intent and purpose you appear to be here just to boost sales of your Zazzle merchandise
(before AHII folds, if your own site forum post reflects your true feelings).
As far as 'hostility' is concerned, you've been treated rather well, even if some here are curious
about your intention as well as your sincerity about the actual AH community. The martyr
attitude you're now adopting is more likely a case of misdirection, imo, whether you actually
have a player account and whether you decide to renew it or not,
Nevertheless, Merry Christmas to you, in turn, sir. Good luck with your website and your sales.

Greetings,
I will answer the question regarding my flying. I used to play Microsofts Combat Flight Sim 1 around 15 years ago. I used to make aircraft addons for the game, first with repaints, then adding a bunch of planes, I think they are still at Simviation.com under the DieStaffel name I used back then. Since then, I have grown old and fat, wear glasses now and losing my teeth 1 by 1. I hit 55 next month. :old: While that is not an excuse, I realise that I dont have the reflexes and ability to fly like I used to in those games. I also have a disabled partner so I gave up full time work to look after her and since then I have worked the odd job and part time work. Now, I have found I get more enjoyment out of providing others with information about the planes they are flying. While it is not an exhaustive reference site, I see no point in reinventing the wheel and copying and pasting everything on every plane found at Wikipedia. I do source that site and the Internet as well as the hundreds of books I have on Combat Flight and use what I can to put into my website. Yes, I also try to sell stuff thru another passion of mine, creating graphics of aircraft on tshirts, cups and other stuff on the variety of shops I have created. Hopefully I will make enough to cover my costs of my website.
I do occasionally fly, but my main place to fly is War Thunder, because they have a very good system, still free to fly and the graphics and game physics are incredible. :airplane:
What I enjoy now is putting up stuff on my website, but mainly at my eShops. I dont make much from these shops(I am yet to actually get paid for my stuff), but it fills the day in and keeps my mind active.
I just wanted to explain why I do what I do.

Yes,
you are right, I wont post anymore to this website since I dont play this game. With the links gone from my site to this website, anyone who comes to my sitre from the other games or from the internet wont know about your 'club'. I am sure you have heaps of people advertising your game. No, wait, I have never seen it anywhere on the net, except when someone from War Thunder told me about this game.
Keep your club all to yourselves. I am sure that you will get so many more members with your attitude towards people who may be interested, not just in the flying, but the friendliness of the people around in your club.
To the Last Post.

Face it. You weren't promoting AHII all that much on your site. There was a link to the game on your main page. There was your forum where you pretty much acted like your last post in this thread. You were the only one posting there (last I saw). I think we might just survive.
Buh bye. :aok
