Title: Walking Dead!!!
Post by: JunkyII on October 13, 2013, 12:14:57 PM
Football and Walking Dead...gotta love Sundays.

My hope for this season RIP Carl but if not that he at least loses the hat I'd be fine with that.

watching the walking dead is like watching the A-Team.  all those rounds fired at 20 feet and they cant hit a living thing.  but they can hit a walker from 1 mile away with a slingshot.

I haven't read the graphic novels, but I'm pretty sure Carl doesn't get killed off.

I vote Carl for next one eaten.  He's already a serial killer in the making.  I watched less of the show after they failed to show Lori's face getting eaten off.  I wanted that more than anything and they denied us the pleasure of watching such a detestable character getting killed off.

Maggie is yummy.  I would totally devour her.  And not quite like a zombie would.   :D

One thing I always wondered about in this situation was the effect of hogs on the zombies.

I have to suspend the whole 'endless appetite with no functional digestive system' thing. That and the 'muscular coordination after rigor mortis' thing. That and the 'acute sensory ability that's stronger than it's own body rot' thing. After that, I just have a mindless good time with it.  :D

(I think a scene where Rick kicks open a toilet stall to see a zombie in the middle of a bowel movement would be hi-larious.)

(I miss Firefly.)

If Glen gets the nod, and I bet he wont for awhile, I hope it is in similar manner to the graphic novel (no pun intended).  Better yet, I hope he gets to put up a fight at least.

I'm willing to bet that Rick, Carl, Carol, Michone, and Daryl are all safe for quite awhile if not for good. I think some of the new cast members coming on board will get the ax first.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

Episode 402-

Curious who everyone thinks has been feeding the walkers rats and who burned Karen and David?  Thoughts?  I'm thinking it isn't going to be obvious so my thoughts are 1 of two scenarios: First, Herschel went to check on them in the night and both had died and turned, and he killed them both and simply finished the job by dragging them out and burning them in hopes of stopping the spread of the infection. Second, it could be a possible suicide.  Karen (or David?) could have known they were dying and took matters in to their own hands by killing the other sickly and dragging them to the outside, burning them, then dousing their self with gas, lighting the fire, then shooting/stabbing.

Some are pointing the finger to Bob, Carl, or Carol.  I don't think it was any of them.  Too easy.

sorry Semp, his point still stands...you have corpses that should be locked in rigor mortis state yet they not only walk, they can run.

the whole zombie thing is a boring crock of poop anyway...i can just picture a bunch of hillbillies sitting in a trailer cleaning their guns while they watch the walking dead and talk about what they're gonna do when them zombies show up.

:headscratch:  wait...ah ya that's right, i actually saw some hillbilly bumpkins talkin about it on one of those doomsday shows...bunch of darwin award candidates.

" ... causing the limbs of the corpse to become stiff and difficult to move or manipulate."

And yet watch them jaws open and shut rapidly and their hands quickly eviscerate their prey.

"After death, cellular respiration in organisms ceases to occur, depleting the corpse of oxygen used in the making of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) allowing the corpse to harden and become stiff. ATP is no longer provided to operate the SERCA pumps in the membrane of the sarcoplasmic reticulum, which pump calcium ions into the terminal cisternae.[1] This causes calcium ions to diffuse from the area of higher concentration (in the terminal cisternae and extracellular fluid) to an area of lower concentration (in the sarcomere), binding with troponin and allowing for crossbridging to occur between myosin and actin proteins. [3]

Unlike in normal muscular contraction, after death, the body is unable to complete the cycle and release the coupling between the myosin and actin, creating a state of muscular contraction until the breakdown of muscle tissue by enzymes (endogenous or bacterial) during decomposition. As part of the process of decomposition, the myosin heads are degraded by the enzymes, allowing the muscle contraction to release and the body to relax"

besides it's a show.  or do you really expect the dead to walk the earth?

edit: zombism stops or slows down all the stages of death.  zombism may start at any of the stages of death except for skeletonization as this is rare and it has only been seen in a few cases.

based on the fact that most zombies in the walking dead arent skeletons.  also look at the time lapse between dawn of the dead and land of the dead.  for example in dawn of the dead (1978)  we see one of the bikers die and become a zombie, in land of the dead (2005) he  still shows up a full 27 years later with leathery skin.  this is where the walking dead gets it wrong.  if you are dead and in various stages of decomposition then you come back to life looking like that, but if you become a zombie soon after death then the zombie effect takes over and you stop decomposing.  if you want more proof, see return of the living dead.  that is a perfect example of how the zombie effect stops decomposition.

man, i hate having to do all the research for you guys.  as I said before, dont trust me look up the facts yourself.

In keeping in the vain of authoritative research on zombie-ism (tongue-in-cheek, of course), you can read in both "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "World War Z", by Max Brooks, that the virus involved actually makes the flesh of the undead toxic. It is toxic to all living creatures, even bacteria; hence the relatively slow rate of decomposition of the undead.  Bacteria is the primary driver of decomposition.  It is also the reason that predators that would otherwise make short work of zombies are not a threat to the living dead.  Canines (and presumably other animals) in fact can actually sense when a still-living person is infected, and hence avoid poisoning themselves by consuming the flesh of zombies.  This idea was of course completely turned about in the move, "World War Z" (which shared little else but the tittle with Brook's signature work); in the movie, it was the zombies who could sense/smell when a living creature was sick, and hence would not attack them.

Im making a prediction. The end of the series will see two things happen for sure. Rick will die saving them all and a cure will be found and we will take back the planet.

Do remember at the end of season #1 the doctor at the CDC said how last he heard a team in France was close to a cure.

I think Merle was a trip. To bad he's gone.

What ... no waking up in the hospital after having been delirious for months to find his buddy Shawn sitting on one side of him and his wife and son on the other (with the radio giving a news flash about a frightening epidemic).

I dont agree with world war z.  that stuff was just made up.  I believe the ultimate authority on zombism and real representation is george romero.  everybody else is just pure fantasy.

Fair enough, Gun, but George never talked much or explained much about the virus that caused his version of zombieism.  He left it to others to fill in the details.  Next to Romero, I think Max Brooks holds the most gravitas in the zombie genre. Just my 2 cents worth.

Oh, and please don't make the mistake of thinking that the Brad Pitt movie by the same title had anything else in common with the book by Brooks.

oh, and <pssst> It's all made up.  :neener: :bolt:

That it would. Zombies spray way too much blood (it 'sells' the show).  :D
