Title: Veterans march on DC
Post by: helbent on October 13, 2013, 06:27:15 PM
This is what veterans think of your Barrycades.
Not one word of this on any National News Media tonight.  That's disgusting.

From the pictures, it appears that there were only a few hundred people at most.

Many thousands... Too many for the Capital Police to manage. The last thing they wanted to do was attempt to use force against the veterans.
1) They don't have the manpower to deal with them, and many of the vets were prepared for a fight. One group led by several retired Army Rangers suggested to the Police that they would be well advised to step aside. They stepped aside.
2) The political fall-out would be beyond measure, beyond anything most people can imagine.
3) Police at the White House were clearly intimidated, even frightened. Watch the videos. Those cops wanted to be anywhere but where they were.

This Vet pictured to me is what it was all about.  In my opinion the only thing marring the rally was the person or persons with the confederate flags.  Old Glory was the flag all these Vets fought under and the message the confederate flag conveyed I think anyway muddled the message.

This is a post about veterans <and civilians> removing barricades to visit open air memorials.  That is all.  Politics may be inferred by the reader, but that is not why I posted this.

Therefore, I hope it is not locked.

I only get ABC NBC CBS.  Couldnt watch all 3 at the same time, so I did my best flipping back and forth and I did not see it covered.  Im sure FOX is broadcasting this.

Karnak, Ditto sir.  I am attempting to refrain from posting my true feelings.

Closed to vets and citizens, but the mall will open for other rallies that I wont mention.

To the contrary.

I could reference Bastille Day, or whatever other revolution one wished, but I am not French and haven't studied the French revolution or any others, so I refrain from using them as a reference.

You are refraining from referring to the facts of the here and now, the present day, what America is actually like...and falling back on comparisons to older (better) days.

I am referring to the present day.

These aren't spoiled, indignant college kids with a sense of entitlement that are protesting.

Some are old and frail veterans, some are middle-aged and disabled veterans and some are able-bodied retired military personnel, all of whom (the vets) have a resolve beyond the normal citizen, some of whom know how to lead a group and most of whom command respect from their fellow citizens.

The media, and this is anywheres, is like any other corporation. They want to make money. Thats why they often focus on news that will get a visceral response from their readership. Or better yet, a visceral response from news they wish to hear in the first place. Or news that reinforces the already strong opinion of the readership.

In other words they tell you what they think you want to hear. Thats how their product gets sold. Many news outlets are owned by corporations and are tailored to further the goals of the larger corporation. News and propaganda are a powerful thing, capable of turning opinion in even an educated, Christian Nation towards accepting the most awful things. As in Germany in the '30s. In general people believe what they are told if they "want" to believe it beforehand. Pretty sad aint it?, Even in a so called free society they do so.

Its why you hear about the cop being arrested but not the one who saved the kid in the fire. Its why you hear about an attack when there is a racial component and not one when there isnt. Most of all when a blonde is involved. Its why they hound every step of some poor girl who married into some inbred royal family, eventually killing her. Negativity and sensationalism sells and theres nothing more dangerous then a slow news day.

I truly doubt its any different in England. The Land where the gutter rag originated from.

Rich does have a point (fear + sensationalism is what sells)

However he is also rather uninformed in many ways...Al Jazeera and the BBC are widely lauded as being very impartial and unbiased media outlets

Although the BBC has been slipping a bit recently

Of course, it's impossible for 90% of Americans to even consider that something called 'Al Jazeera' could be more accurate and impartial than the beloved Fox News or MSNBC :)

We play a WW2 game but don't want to play Auschwitz 2.0.

My Mother lived in Germany during the Fuhrer's rise to power and took advantage of the populace thinking he had their best interests in mind. She sees history being repeated in the US. Propaganda is a powerful tool that sways simple minds But these Brave people are standing for what's right and not being silent and turning their selfish heads as others are suffering.

And the foreign press loves to sell negativism about America.

Their readership eats it up like candy. Who wants to blame themselves for problems when they can heap blame on another?

Anyway thats my "uninformed opinion" after having traveled and lived in so many countries.

As a US military veteran I will ALWAYS stand with other vets. Even if it means losing my job. I consider the oath of enlistment binding for life and it supersedes any other oath Ive taken.

I'm not interested in arguing with you because I'm sure you and Gemini are ignoramuses based on your posts.  :rofl

This thread is about the closing of open air memorial parks, in particular the WW2 on the national mall from veterans.  Veterans I might add, who played a roll in protecting that little speck of a country New Zealand in WW2 against Japanese expansionism.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it troll.

they're not just closed for vets, they're closed for everybody.  the fact is that legally they cant be open, unless of course those who order them to be opened are willing to go to jail.  a lot of places are closed, they're not going to be closed forever and some people need to be patient.

that's what happens when the budget runs out of money.

so the last 17 times the government shut down and the open air memorials stayed open,  who was acting illegally ?
? Not to mention the traffic cones on the shoulder of the highway around Mount Rushmore so you can't stop and take pictures?
 Manned parks must be closed,
open air memorials that require little to no maintenance , require labor intensive efforts to close, who ok'd that?
Who spent more time and money closing parks and or monuments than it would have cost to leave them open for the first time in recent history?  Law or not,, this time is different, someone made that call, someone inconvenienced the citizens and veterans of this country on purpose! I wonder who? Why? And what they thought they would gain?
But please don't answer, no need too!

do a bit of research and look up the 1800's law.  when there's no budget you cant spend money, it is as simple as that.  and the law was passed to stop people from spending money they dont have.  and if they spend money without a budget then they go to jail.  it's as simple as that, it's been all over the news look it up :).
