so much for chevy's claim that the gt500 couldn't touch the zl1 over there at nurbergring.  :devil

prepare for 7 minutes and 39 seconds of supercharger whine, tire squeal, 5.8 liter screaming, chevy whomping corner eating fun.

7:19.63    Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 (2012) Official time according to Wiki so Mustang still a good 20 seconds behind.

no.....the mustang's out in front of its competition, the camaro. again. by about 2 seconds. the vette is a whole different animal, and is in a class almost its own, along with the viper. it'd be nice to see ford put the gt40 back into production again though.

the whole point is that virtually EVERYONE would say "the shelby could never match the camaro, due to the solid rear axle." to that argument, i normally said that it was close enough in the turns(performance-wise) that it only had to stay close if there were any straight aways. i'd venture that the camaro squeak-slapped the shelby in most of the turns, 'specially the harder ones. then the shelby simply did what relatively light cars with nearly 700hp do.....it literally assassinated the blacktop on the straight aways. to be honest, on that track, this outcome really shouldn't be much of a surprise.

Too bad its still 2 sec slower than the Z/28.... Which has almost 200 fewer horsepower.

 :neener:

Ford's top dog is still sniffing Camaro arse. :)

 you mean GM's purpose-built stripped-out track-car , the Camaro Z/28 and its 7:37.5?

Yes, the one they're offering for sale to the public and is street legal. The one that's faster than the GT500 around the race track. That one.

How's 2nd place feel?

it feels good, 'cause it already beat their "unbeatable" zl1, and i'm fairly certain that it'll beat the z when the irs chassis is used.

i'd like to see what the boss302 would do, because it's overall a better balanced car than the shelby........

annnd for the sake of discussion, it really is first place, as it's been "gt500 vs zl1" not "gt500 vs whatever chevy feels like throwing at it". the zl1 was said to be unbeatable by the shelby on that course. it was proven incorrect, and the shelby reins.  :aok

The GT500 that ran the Ring wasn't even stock.

Aerodynamics have been added to help it cheat the time sheet, those lips un the indicators are suspects.

nice try, but that's an old pic i believe. that said, supposedly, the zl ran on a non-stock tire to set its time.

No "if if if" with cars that do not exist yet, at least not for sale.  :)

meh. It's Mustang vs Camaro, your top dog versus theirs. Problem is when Ford went to work on beating the Bowtie Boys, the ZL1 was the top dog. By the time they finally got there, the ZL1 is no longer King and the Z28 is eating the Pony's lunch.

Sorry, ya thought they had caught up and yet they're still one step behind.  :lol

yea. i did a little more reading on the 28. carbon brakes, no a/c, no stereo, manual seats. sounds like there's gonna be less than 2,000 built, and found something rumoring $66k base price. so essentially, it's a stripped out race car barely street legal. the carbon brakes though will keep it from being legal on factory based types of races, as will the power/weight ratio.

that all said.....it's still zl1 vs gt500, and the zl1 loses.  :devil to the best of my knowledge, the 28 isn't for sale yet either, as i just went onto chevys website to look at it.....couldn't find it in the ordering....... soooooooo..........

on the other hand, it looks like this year may be the last for the boss302, as i read on an svt site that they're discontinuing it. i hope that's wrong, but we'll see.........

annnd finally, since you wanna shift from the zl to the 28, i'll use the same argument that my chevy friends use when they lose to a shelby.....can you imagine if the shelby trimmed 300 pounds like the 28 did? there's that time difference right there.  :devil :bolt:

I WILL ADD I LOVE THE CAMAROS TOO....IK JUST HAVE FUN WITH THIS STUFF.

I like the Z28,, had one in high school,,, was thinking I'd get a new one when they get here,,
if it says Shelby on it, it better be a Cobra!! :bolt:

Found this for ya cap1
The dream car of every 1970s teenage boy is making a comeback

Chevrolet is reviving the Z/28 Camaro as a lighter, high-performance version of the muscle car. The Z/28, which debuted in 1967 and was last sold in 2002, has been reengineered for 2014 at 3,800 pounds, about 100 pounds lighter than a standard Camaro. It's designed so that it can hit the racetrack, with the Corvette's powerful V-8 engine and bigger brakes. To shed weight, it forgoes some standard comforts, coming with a one-speaker radio, stiffer seats and manual transmission
"We really wanted to try to get rid of some of the mass and make it a real enthusiasts' car to be able to use for spirited driving on the street and open track days," said Mark Stielow, performance engineering manager for the Z/28.

Air conditioning is optional and there's less sound insulation. Brake rotors are made of carbon and ceramics instead of heavier steel. It's more aerodynamic than a standard Camaro, and the suspension is even stiffer than the ZL1, another high-performance version.

"The whole car has been just kind of tauted up. It's kind of a more performance style car," Stielow said.

Even with the changes, he says the car still handles bumpy roads well, though not as well as a standard Camaro.

Engineers also freshened up the Camaro's profile for 2014, reshaping the front and rear to make it more modern and athletic looking.

Alan Batey, General Motors' U.S. sales chief, said the company doesn't expect to sell a lot of Z/28s, but the car does bring back some of the brand's heritage from days when it dominated U.S. roads.

"You don't do this because of how many you're going to sell. You do this because of the statement it can make and the way it can build the brand," he said.

Here are some highlights of the 2014 Z/28:

UNDER THE HOOD: 7-liter (427-cubic-inch) V-8 from the Corvette that puts out more than 500 horsepower. GM wouldn't reveal a zero to 60 mph time. Six-speed manual transmission with close gear range.

OUTSIDE: Fender flares over the wheels to reduce wind drag. Extended panels at the bottom of the doors and a rear spoiler also improve aerodynamics.

INSIDE: New matte-metallic finish on the trim. Flat-bottomed steering wheel, standard Recaro seats that are more supportive for the race track. Front seats don't have power adjustments in order to save weight. Rear seats also were modified to cut pounds.

FUEL ECONOMY: Not disclosed. Likely to be less than the current Camaro with a manual transmission and 6.2-liter V-8, which gets 14 mpg in the city and 19 on the highway.

PRICE: Also not released. Available late in 2013. Current Camaro SS with a V-8 starts at $31,635.

CHEERS: Harkens back to the glory days of Chevrolet. Will be fast and fun to drive.

JEERS: Ride likely will be harsher and noisier than the standard Camaro.

while a factory built 8 second dragster is some serious performance.....the problem with the cobrajet would be when the time comes to turn. it ain't gonna happen at 150+mph in that car. that said........awesome car! dam good performance from a 5 liter.

i spent some time looking for an 05 or 06 legend lime mustang. wanted another gt, but a 6 banger would've done. i just wanted that green.....'cause my first car was a 67 mustang coupe. lime green.

Turning? Pfft. What loser does that kind of crap anyways?

Lol jk. Turning is actually pretty important sometimes. I prefer rally races to track races anyways so I suppose having that Cobra Jet in the thickest kind of crap you could put it in isn't a good idea. However some people do have rallying Mustangs, and they do look fairly badass.

I accept that some Mustangs might beat my car in a race.  But, my car looks so much cooler.

Last year at my companies BBQ, I had Ford bring out some toys.  Contractors love pickup trucks.  But the dealer out here knows I am a mustang fan, so he told the rep's to send out a toy for me.

It showed up after the 5 pick ups were delivered, and the driver drove up, asked for me, got out and tossed me the keys.  I took her out for a drive, came back and he said, "we didn't hear you, take it out again, we want to hear it this time, and the boss says 'thanks'.  "  I send many contractors his way.  So out I went.  They heard me that time.

Why would you want the Exige? Get an Evora instead! Much faster and much better looking. Handling isn't as great but it's still a nice car.

If that's what you're going for get the Elise. Its handling is slightly better along with the acceleration but the top speed isn't as high. Still, both are great cars.

However I'd much rather take the Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition over the Exige.

split screen shelby on bottom, zl1 on top. you can see where the zl loses its time.
in the opening turns, they stay neck n neck(supposed to be impossible  :devil ) and there's a straight run around the 45 second mark, where the shelby pulls ever so slightly out. from there it holds the lead.

Its a high mileage car, but other than some dents and scratches in the bumpers its in pretty great condition. Its also got the benefits of having the 3.9L "LZ9" V6 and a 4T65E-HD transmission. :D

(I need to get some pictures of it soon.)
