Title: Update on Update.
Post by: hitech on January 10, 2014, 11:55:21 AM
For the past month I have been working on light scattering.

The image below I took from from the sample code I am working from.

Currently I have stopped work for a few weeks on the new engine to do an update with the existing engine.

The update includes a new plane and a remade b26. We are also reworking the strat to decentralize all the factories.

And doing an update to the mission system so that missions can be pre scheduled an repeat. After the release it will be back to working on the new engine.

I was wondering what would the next planes that would be due for update.  110, Ju-88, 164, Ar 234, etc.

I was wondering if HTC get rid of some of the check boxes in the graphics setup since many things have zero performance hit even on a slow system like mine.

Do we really need a check box to disable bump map terrain?

I talked to some of these guys that run high end systems yet they have thier graphics set up such that it looks like warbirds beta.

They do this so they can see GV from nealy half a sector away.

I thought the Ju-88 was an AH1 model as well, no :headscratch:?

Yes, but not v1.00.  The Ju88 was added in v1.04.

With the B-26 being updated the remaining AH1 3D models will be:

A-20G
Ar234B
B5N2
Bf110C-4B
Bf110G-2
Boston Mk III
D3A1
F4F-4
FM-2
Ju88A-4
Ki-61-I-Tei
Ki-67
Me163
TBM-3
Tempest Mk V

All of these were added in later versions than v1.00.

v1.00 had:

B-17G
B-26B
Bf109F-4
Bf109G-2
Bf109G-6
Bf109G-10
C.205
C-47A
F4U-1C
F4U-1D
Fw190A-8
La-5FN
N1K2-J
P-51D
Spitfire Mk IX

Rapidly added in v1.01 were the P-38L and Spitfire Mk V and then so on and so on.

For some with low end systems, disabling bump mapping for planes, terrains and clouds can can improve their performance.

Hitech,
I have an old mid range system, ati 5830, phenomIIx4 3.6GHz, 8 gigs of ram, can run the current version quite well, will it be able to run the new terrain engine without a very serious performance hit?
Title: Re: Update on Update.
Post by: Greebo on January 11, 2014, 07:21:18 AM
I'd imagine HTC would be wary of making predictions about future framerates at this early stage. Until they have a working version with all the features implemented, all the debug stuff removed and it has been tested they can't know for sure.

In theory as the new version will implement the currently unused Shader 3.0 feature of the video card this should free up the CPU to either improve framerates or make the game look better at the same framerates.

Why?  That would be stupid.  You'd get rid of one of the most popular bombers in the game, a mass produced bomber in WWII to add a hardly played a part in WWII perk attack aircraft?

Just add the A-26 and keep the B-26.  What is so hard about that?  Why to people keep suggesting that units we already have be removed at the same time as they request new units?

Can't really agree with you there either.  B-26 was horribly outdated and needed to be redone.

Adding the A-26 would be good too, but it does not obviate the need to update the 2000 and 2001 3D models.

*shrug* That's fine, I didn't expect the reference to be taken seriously anyway. My original post was more whimsical than anything, reflecting back on the silly fun that was had when "blood pigging" got its name in AW in the early '90's. That sort of thing isn't possible in this game...obviously that underlying reference and its inherent sillyness was missed. Nothing to argue about here.

Probable because they shared a letter for a while  :aok .... I think... I probable have to look it up again   but the A-26 was the Douglas A/B-26 Invader... when the A-26 came out the A-26B <solid nose wwII version> and A-26C <glass nose> was changed to B-26 later in the 40's<1947/8?>. The Douglas plane was classified/called the B-26 for a period of time. Not to be confused with the Martin plane the B-26 Marauder of course.   :D

I'm curious...

On the large maps, will the area's be zoned like before?  Or will it still be this set of strats, only scattered?  An idea is; If it's going to be where we have multiple zones, you could keep the Captial (aka: Mega Strat) in the back for the rear fields.  Just break things up for the forward fields like in the past.  The only change would be to the City strats on the front to only affect town downtimes while the current setup for the Industrial Center remains the same (which would be rear field towns/HQ downtime).  For small maps, you could just have the city strat by the HQ with the other strats scattered along.  I hope that the city strats will take on a new look, and even vary between small, medium*, and large maps.

*Now that I think about it, do we really have ANY map that could be considered "medium"?

MA maps are either 256 or 512 miles square and my CraterMA map is 256. It does have more fields on it than any other 256 mile map but fewer than any 512 so in that respect it is middle of the road.

Hitech, could you please post a shot showing how the new light scattering, looks on one of the newer aircraft models?

That backround reflecting in the glass nose of the mossie would look pretty good I would think.

I'm very curious about the update to the current terrain engine.  What it is & why are my questions.

I'm hoping...

Would be awesome if they add some more ord options too, like the 900 liter drop tanks, MK 101/103 and BK 37.

Yes please, might be the only thing that would keep me in the game.   :t

I would like to be able to remove 13mm when flying with the 30mm option in the A8, and be able to shoot with the 30mm only in planes that had a switch IRL for it ...

In AH you can selectively fire only between two classes of guns: MGs and cannon. In the R/L 190A the trigger fired the 13mm cowl guns and the wing-root 20mm cannons. The thumb button fired the outer wing armament (MG-FF, MG 151, MK 108, rockets etc.) On Jabo versions there was also a third button on the side of the stick for bomb release.

The 190 has the best looking cockpit of any WWII aircraft by a large margin.

I'm curious if we will still have trees made out of titanium that stop tanks and tank shells?
