Not sure why it still has the tube extension on the upper, where the collapsible stock typically would be.

interesting... :rofl

It's for the gas operation of the action, it's a necessary working part.
Well, I'm sure the people of New York State can sleep safer now that that evil pistol grip is gone.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I hate gun legislation. They can do nothing useful about it, but they push through laws like this so they can say they're Doing Something about it!

If you're talking about the tube coming out of the back of the receiver it's where the spring and buffer are. The bolt rides back against the buffer, spring returns it to battery.

Oh, what a delightfully thick, cream-cheese-esque-consistency layer of irony this post has.

From the article: Fewer people are killed with all rifles each year (323 in 2011) than with shotguns (356), hammers and clubs (496), and hands and feet (728).
This is why I need a firearm so I can wound the perp instead of Pounding them with my Club-like Hands. :D

Ah, thanks. I've field stripped and cleaned an AR before, but didn't realize there were integral parts of the mechanism within the stock itself. Learn something new everyday. Definitely has a weird look to it, but if I lived in NY, I'd buy one. Wonder if they sell conversion kits yet, in case someone wants to "legalize" their AR for NY?

What a moronic Law. Dont get me started on gun Laws.

I bet the people of NY feel safer already....

It even looks comfortable to shoot!

Simple lower receiver change. Should be easy to convert.

Yes, that rifle is at least 67% less dangerous without the evil pistol grip and flash suppressor.
Seriously, rather then buy that ugly-fied AR, why wouldn't you just get a Mini-14 now? After all it comes with a lovely wood stock with is at least 150,000% less evil then black stocks.

No needs a assault rifle unless they are fighting a war :old:

a lowly .22 will do the work.

It's not a matter of "need". It is a matter of "I have the right to have" and "I want". I own 2 AR's.. well.. I own one and my wife owns one.. do we plan on fighting a war? Nope... we just enjoy them. Home defense wise, my wife has a 12 Gauge, and I prefer my H&K USP.. (even though handgun requires more "upkeep" training, I prefer the small size and ability to move through the home unimpeded if necessary)....and then my conceal carry gun is a handguna s well of course...

there's only so many ways you can make a gun. if it wasnt for the law, somebody would have made it anyway, and somebody would have bought it, just for the novelty.
while some laws are really stupid, there's always gonna be somebody that gotta have this or that gun just for the sake of owning it.

Im one of those :D I collect high end rifles and i own quite a few just for the sake of owning them.....love the history behind them, and to me they are a piece of art first and a firearm second.

I don't suppose it would do any good to point out that a semi-automatic AR-15 is not an assault rifle...

when are you gonna learn that zach is just trolling. he has posted before about how unfair it is that he cant have any guns where he lives, blah, blah, blah.
most of his posts are just geared towards getting people banned for a few days. this one is not really any different.

No. 'Cause those of us who know it dont need reminding and those who think it is read it in the news papers so obviously they must be.

How'd you clean the buffer and buffer spring?
It's called a buffer tube and it's why you see them on AR Pistols. The Bolt Carrier Group needs to go somewhere when the gun cycles.
