Title: For all those in the southeast US
Post by: SIM on February 11, 2014, 06:24:09 PM
Be careful on the roads and only venture out if absolutely necessary!

My employer has gone to great lengths to bring in crews to work power outages, no one knows how bad this storm will actually affect electric service. Please let those linemen do their job. Most often, leaving those guys to their work means more to them than kind words of "Thanks". It is all about getting the power on and getting back home.

Don't assume that a crew, working on the side of the road, is familiar with your area. They very well may be one of the "travel teams" from another county or state. Stopping to tell them of lines down, or outages, doesn't really do anyone any good. Call your local power company and report the outage/issue instead.

I don't know about other areas, but this storm is being touted as a "big one". At one point today, one of the networks was predicting over 1 million outages. It could happen......I just don't much faith in reporters.....

I hope you all weather this storm well!

(gonna be dang cold out there in a bucket truck)

We got an inch friday night/saturday morning for our first real snow (Up till this point we've just had ice). While it was all gone within 24 hours, a neighbor managed to build a 4ft tall snowman that is still standing strong. We missed this round, just sleeted a bit this afternoon. My cousin moved to Atlanta from Indianapolis and Chicago... He just thought he was getting away from the cold!

Same here.  I'm in Lauderdale County, Tennessee.  We've gotten a few snow showers here and there, but Friday night was the first of any accumulation this year.  I wish we would get more snow earlier in the winter.  But once duck season closes, I go into full fledged summer mode waiting to get the pontoon out on the water!

For those new to snow you will need to test your car's stopping ability on ice and snow at a very slow speed on a parking lot or flat road where no ditches and other dangerous objects are. If your tires don't say "all season" I wouldn't recommend driving at all. Even with "all season" tires the roads are deadly without road crews spreading sand/salt.

Be safe down there for all those affected but for people who never drive in it, it can be a scary feeling and wrecks are going to happen sad to say.   where i live the road crews have it down pat as to keeping our roads snow and ice free most of the time, been driving professionaly for 33 years so for me its no biggie i just keep an eye out for problem areas while driving and other drivers which seem to be a majority  of the troubles.

Stupid lake effect snow here!  Atleast the lake is finally froze over, some good came from all that cold!

I'm right at the edge of the snowbelt here, could be worse though,I could still be up on Georgian Bay! My sister told me they had to clear the roofs off up there the snow was over 3 feet on the roofs, not good!

And I always thought they got more than their share in the Ottawa area!

morf, all that hot air rising in Toronto (not just from politicians) sucks in the air from the lakes.

There are snow banks and the snow removal budget is going over the top but the thaw got rid of a lot of the surface snow.

And I thought you meant all that snow going up in smoke because of the Mayor's habit! :devil
