Title: Loneliness
Post by: earl1937 on September 19, 2014, 10:19:25 PM
:airplane: Loneliness! The word alone means different things to different people, but the bottom line is, it is pure "hell" for a man my age, whom has buried two wives. At my age, if I wake up during the night, first question in my mind is, "Am I about to be beckoned home to God? Will I live to see the next sunrise? Will the Lord bless me again and let me seek the comfort of the heavens, strapped into the silver wings of some make of aircraft? Can I once again, weave in and out of the towering CB's, some as high as 30 thousand feet? Have I lost the ability to "nail" the doughnut on a tough approach? Why do I grab the B-58, which belongs to Randy, my friend, and run down to BMG, just because its down to 800 overcast and 2,000 RVR? Do I have a death wish, what with only one eye left, which I see pretty darn good with, to be doing such as that, when all I am trying to find out is "can I still do it"?
Pretty stupid when I get depressed like I am now and get to thinking about things!
Barbara is gone, passed away last year and Ole Schooter, my trusted 4 legged friend is now gone and I set here, almost midnight and afraid to go to sleep, because I am afraid that I might not wake up! Just looking at these 4 walls is enough to depress the happiest man in the world, so I guess I should just shut my eyes and trust to the Lord that I will wake once again, to, as someone one once said, "I have broke the surly bonds of earth on the wings of my silver bird, free to go where I please"!
But, each night when I do get this way, I pray to God and thank him for putting Aces High in my life 5 years ago, because there are lot of good friends in here and it does give me comfort that I can get in the game 24/7, for $14.95 cents.
It saddens me to see people "flame" the game for their own reasons!

Depression can be a tough battle, but I'm confident a man of your calibre will overcome it. I know from experience that losing someone very close can trigger bouts of depression even years after the loss. I hope you have some friends around (except here). Seek them out; it helps a lot.

As for your faith related musings... I thought the whole point was that you wouldn't need to be "strapped into the silver wings of some make of aircraft"... You'll fly around with your own set of wings. ;)

Hang in there Earl.  I am sorry to hear of all your losses, but do your best to not let those losses keep you down.  Rest assured, while I do not see you in game, I do know that your presence and insight on these boards touch many people.  You will always have a friend in me.  ;)

Earl, I think we're the lucky ones to have ya. If ever there's another AH con, I'd be first to pitch in to bring you to it (even if I can't make it myself). May God grant *us* your company for as long as you want.

It's funny how once in a while, a post will make you think.

Earl, you will wake up every morning and you will remember all the good things, but more importantly you will look forward to all the new good things, the day, week, month , year, and years will bring.

I just hope you will continue to share them with us.

cheers,

RTR

:airplane: 171 is the VOX channel I have been using for years now as a Rook! Every Rook knows that if he tunes to 171, and I am in the game, they know I am running missions! I fly bombers 96% the time because of the eye problem! Thanks all for comments, it sure makes "ole Tater" stop and think every time he gets in trouble!  <S>

Hear hear! Jimmah!

Its channel 171 our squad is 71 RAF!!!! Zack being a former British citizen I would have thought you could get your own militaries nomenclature properly sorted!! Get it straight you bloody w-a-n-k-e-r!!! 171st???? For heaven sake what gibberish!!!! Your always welcome Earl. You will need to be armed with a high tolerance for non-sense "Zack" and Canadians!!!! "ME" Huzzah!!! I happen to live in the wilderness near Ontario! But that's another story......

Hang in there Earl. Depression is not easy to deal with. Seek out people you can confide in for help. I am glad your pals and time in AH is helpful. It is fun stuff and has given me a much needed lift here and there as well!

The shadow proves the sun shines.

Beautifully written and I get where you're coming from.

I'm glad you're with us Earl.  Even though I don't play anymore and dear lord do I miss it there are a ton of good people here as I'm sure you know so you're never really alone.  I'm very sorry for your losses and feel your pain.

My God bless you and bestow on you his loving graces.

If you ever need to talk I'm just a PM away my friend.

Funny you mention that. We had an OC with us earning his commission. He had been in the Navy already for, I believe, 8 years, and still couldn't pass the swim test...

     A update on my emotional state! A week ago yesterday, a woman I love very much, broke our engagement and gave me back the ring I had given  her...as the week wore on and I fell deeper and deeper into a nose dive, I knew that at my age, that was never going to be another woman in my life! Then, out of the blue today, she called, said she had made a terriable mistake and wanted her ring back!!!! Of course, I have been on cloud nine all afternoon and evening, but now I do have a real problem, I was so upset that night she gave me the ring back, I have no idea what I did with it!!! can't find it anywhere in this house or my truck....800.00 bucks down the drain, so now will have to buy another one, just hope she takes it! LOL

You'll be running those B17 missions with your friends for a long time yet Earl.

Any problems with that old computer of yours again just ring me up again. In fact do so any time.

All the rest is in the Lords hands and who could be better to handle it?

earl, word of advise take it easy and dont be on a rush.

hope everything goes right for you.  but never be afraid to be alone as you will never be alone unless you really want to be alone.  never rush into trying to replace somebody you lost then again never pass up a good thing.

look into your heart and you will be ok  :salute

:airplane: As some of you already know, I have had two wives in my life time up until now...both passed away from health problems....I have never had a woman treat me as this one has and I think, will in future. She plays the organ for a church, has for 27 years, so she is not one to get tired of something and give it up!!!! Just hope the good Lord gives me 27 more years, where I can find out!!!

Earl I flew many times with you, maybe under USAF77 I dont remember I quit playing, maybe it was under bombrich. Im not kid anymore either. This lady has been a bit of a roller coaster for you. I hope your sure about things. In the end a man does what a man does. Hell, what am I schooling you for?

I wish you the best with the lady. And many more flight leads on B17s. "Throw in some TU-2S missions and I might come back". ;)

Earl, a thought but you should reach out to local elementary, middle, junior and senior high schools and ask if they need a speaker. Develop a couple speeches, based on your life stories. One is about planes, another history, etc. They will ask you how much you charge. If the answer is nothing, likely you will get some hits.

It is not the end all but clearly passing along these stories will help you and be of value to these young students. Maybe even reach out to local colleges that have ROTC depts, or history teachers.

Just a thought....

That's a spectacular idea!  You have a special gift for this ET.
:headscratch: I have tried this already a couple of years ago at a local high school! Problem was, the students, at least most, had no idea what I was talking about! I tried a simple theme, filled with funny antidotes, even had some aircraft models with me, but the one thing they all wanted to know about was just how an aircraft flies! That was easy, as all I had to do then was explain and demonstrate the fundamentals of flight, be it a J-3 Cub or a Boeing 747. I think that was some success and I usually had to stay an extra 30 minutes for students who wanted to ask me questions in person.
One day, I had a rather un-ruly bunch, seem to want to talk instead of listening! So I ask a question: Do you know who that blonde headed lady is sitting over there? I explained that it was Barbara and she did not have a clue what was going on, she just knew she was near me and that was all that mattered to her! Suddenly, a hush fell over the crowd of students and you could have heard a "pin" drop! I explained to them her medical problem and how it was effecting her and me! I explained there was no cure! I spoke for about 15 minutes on her plight and after I concluded my remarks, I think every student in there came by Barbara and gave her a big hug and I got to see her smile for the first time in a couple of years! That smile was worth millions to me, as it brought back memories of better times for she and I.
While it is true that I have found a new soul mate, she understands that Barbara will always have a special compartment in my heart.

Had an older friend that came to me looking for bicycle to ride, keep him healthy. He was a pilot.
 We had lots of talks.
He shared that he'd lost his pilots license because of his sight. And that same thing had bounced him outta flying combat A-20's in pacific in early ww2, he'd volunteered as Quartermaster/? in B-25 group has it would allow him some time flying. And he had some friends who would still take him up and.."let him put his hands on the controls, and fly..".
I miss talking with him..fixed him up with classic style cruiser w/Nexuis 5 speed coaster brake, he rode it alot.

Lost my gal..than lost a couple good dogs....given up on pets.
Now I've got stupid Golden Retriever, pretty English Cream colored that showed up on my out in boonies doorstep as big fluffy puppy, scratched at door like he deserved to be let in...he will not bark at a human and is totally worthless as guard dog. I just hope he out-lives me, not sure I could loose another.
I have kids, they keep in touch. I wouldn't live where I do but that their close. But I won't burden them.
Peace upon you Earle, and on yours. I do enjoy your posts.
