Could it be true? Is Harbaugh headed to Michigan? I had thought it was a crazy, impossible dream, but it might be that the stars are aligning.
-
Do you really want him?
Because he can bring wins or respect? I'm not sure if the two can be packaged together with him.
I'm not a fan of his ways/behavior. His brother is much more respectable imo.
Btw, someone tell him he doesn't play anymore and therefore does not need to warm up before the game :lol

Ray Rice.........
LOL... there goes that argument.
-
He's their Michigan Man and the only hire that will work for them. The only one who will not be undermined and be given the time it takes to build the program by their insufferable boosters, alumni etc.
They simply have to have him.
-
i read that they called the marching band back from break early. :x

LOL... there goes that argument.
Not that I'm aware of; Jon Harbaugh obviously didn't knock anyone out. The Raven's front office sent the tape to the NFL; the NFL "didn't look" at it. Not that the tape matters much, Rice said he punched his girlfriend, knocking her out; did the US really need to see it to know he's a scumbag? The behavior of dragging her out of the elevator like a ded animal; that's something different.
None of which to my knowledge has anything to do with Jon Harbaugh. Is there something I've not read???

Yeah I heard this aswell, also the tickets for Tuesdays BBall game have had their price skyrocket. Does Michigan want him? Hell yes and I think he will be successful back at home just like he has been on every level. Is his personality a problem? I don't think so; at the college level kids in college are trying to make it unlike pros, who have said that Harbaugh treats them like college kids. After hoke and his laid back ways I welcome Jim home and can't wait for him to light a fire under some butts and shows some personality. As for warming up what's wrong with leading by example or maybe its just a way for him to blow of some pre game jitters. I also think he will do a better job of developing players Than Hoke, I think it was time for Hoke to go as his record got worse every year and IMO the offense regressed. Granted he never got a QB he recruited all year as a starter but the way DG regressed and how Shane and Russell Bellomy looked completely unready to play at the college level was enough for me. The oline did get better towards the end of this year tho. I am hearing that Mattison will stick around and that DJ Durkin will also be hired as either a co-defensive coordinator with Mattison or Mattison will take a lesser title as serve as a kind of tutor to Durkin. I'm also hearing that Ty Wheatly will be brought on in some capacity(maybe even Offensive Coordinator) which would be an awesome move. In terms of NFL being way better than College and the fact that no Really successful coach has left the NFL for college when there were job openings/offers, I think this set a precedent where good NFL coaches in the future will look at the College jobs as a possibility, especially the younger coaches that can take a job in college for a few years than return to the NFL which I think Harbaugh will do, after getting 'Home' back in order.

Ray Rice and you can keep skirting the fact.

So because a player does something bad and the coach leaves it up to the management to make a decision, he's a bad coach.
Since being Ravens head coach, 1 superbowl, 6 trips to the playoffs.

I was merely addressing Rot's claim. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yes.
Because I think he is a great coach with a track record of being a great coach.
I don't know anything about his behavior.
OK, I'll let him know that you think he shouldn't warm up before a game.
Now, if it were only the case that you'd take the job for $48 million, I'd protest against Harbaugh getting it and would lobby for you getting it instead. Are you sure you won't change your mind?
-
I think when he matures, he'll be a great coach. He pals around with players, that may actually work well for him in a college setting again.
Question is really do you think he'll be good for your team? I'll put this from my frame, I'm a CSU alumni and big fan of our small yet feisty football program. Would I want Jim Harbaugh, no. Not because he'd leave and take more $, lets say hypothetically that would not happen; it's because I don't think he brings respect from the collective and larger community with him, it's not an asset of his.
CSU's program, albeit small, has a rich history with the legacy of Sonny Lubick; the brats and behavior problems go to CU (Boulder) and we like it that way. Anywho I digress...
If all you want is wins, no matter no how; then he's your guy.

No you saying "Ray Rice" is saying that John is not a respectable coach which is absolutely outrageous to say.
-
Ray Rice and you can keep skirting the fact.
I haven't skirted it. I've said that Jon was not part of the decision making regarding Rice. So I'm not sure how Ray Rice's repugnant indiscretion is a reflection on Jon Harbaugh.
Is there something I don't know, like: Harbaugh saying he thinks Ray should stick around, not get punished, etc?
-
I think when he matures, he'll be a great coach.
I don't know what you are talking about.
Question is really do you think he'll be good for your team.
Yep -- I think he'll be great for it, for the Big 10, and for college football overall.
Would I want Jim Harbaugh, no. . . .
I don't think you'll have to worry about getting Harbaugh, but I think you'd be nuts to not want him if you could get him unless you are Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State, LSU, Michigan State, etc.
because I don't think he brings respect from the collective and larger community with him, it's not an asset of his.
Respect? Let's see. He was a great quarterback at Michigan. He went on to be a pro quarterback -- only a very few college quarterbacks manage that, even ones with good college records. In the NFL, he was for a good portion of his career the starting quarterback (another large step up). In that capacity, had at least some excellent seasons (another large step up). Then, out of playing football and into coaching, he built a winning program at San Diego State, which sucked before he got there. He moved on to Stanford, which was usually the joke of the Pac 10, and built it into a nationally ranked top 4 powerhouse. Then he went on to coach the 49ers. The year before he got there (2010), the 49ers went 6-10 and no playoffs. With Harbaugh in 2011, they went to the NFC Championship (first time since 1997) and lost a close game to the eventual Super Bowl champs. In 2012, they went to the Super Bowl. In 2013, the went to the NFC Championship game and lost a close game to the Seahawks, who went on to win the Super Bowl in a blowout. In 2014, they didn't make it to the playoffs.
So, yeah, I guess probably few people respect the guy.
If all you want is wins, no matter no how; then he's your guy.
Excellent. I'll take that -- and that he is a hugely accomplished man with a great record of success. I'll just have to live with the deep regret that he doesn't have your approval or respect.
Assuming he becomes the coach of Michigan, that is. We won't know for sure until tomorrow.

Have you seen how some of the players are reacting tohim being fired? Frank Gore, Kapernick and others have all said they liked the guy. In terms of CSU I think they got a great coach in Bobo. Where does Harbaugh lose your respect tho? Because he shows passion? Because he expects top effort? Harbaugh has always shown his passion even as a kid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqlBGQti2RU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqlBGQti2RU) The kid in the blue shirt running to the endzone is Jim Harbaugh.

If I was a Michigan fan, he is the only guy I would want.
You had Lloyd Carr who lost to Appalachian State and then retired but stayed on to undermine Rich Rodriguez who for that, never really fitting in and other reasons failed there but has succeeded here at Arizona. Thanks Big Blue for sending him to us :aok.
Then Hoke, unproven but a by-god Michigan Man.
The program now totally in the toilet and who else out there would satisfy the fans and alumni and cadre of Michigan men boosters? Who else would they be patient with? Who else will put butts in the seats and recruits on the roster?
That 48 million they are spending would be lost in revenue anyway if they didn't hire him.

BIG Blue is Kentucky Michigan is just Blue. problem I think for RR is that he never got a good Defensive coordinator. As for Hoke I liked the guy but the obvious lack of development by the players and the fact he may have had the best running back(Drake Johnson) 4th on the depth chart was enough for me, also it seems that the team had no drive no passion.

Brooke:
No hard feelings, Harbaugh is clearly the coach you like to and will have; hopefully he'll give the Big Blue fans what they want.
:salute

You had Lloyd Carr who lost to Appalachian State and then retired
One supposed reason for the Appalachian State loss is here, which if true is horribly idiodic:
http://www.chatsports.com/michigan-wolverines/a/Former-Michigan-player-Nearly-half-the-team-was-stoned-during-Appalachian-State-loss-10-2-3043
But, that year, Michigan also beat #9 Florida (with Heisman winner Tebow as quarterback and Urban Meyer as coach, and which was national champ the year before) in the Capital One Bowl.
Lloyd Carr was a decent coach.
Rodriguez was a good coach at Michigan in some ways (offense built into something quite good) and was a horrible coach at Michigan in other ways (defense, and refusing to get a new defensive coordinator to fix things until too late, which seems stupidly obstinate of him). The thing I didn't like about him is that, without a pro-style offense, while you might win more college games, you won't place as many quarterbacks into the pros. Changing from pro-style lost them Ryan Mallett, an outstanding QB, and to me it was unwise to get a coach that would require a whole rebuilding of the offense. Also, I didn't like how he wouldn't take steps to fix the defense. Instead of Rodriguez, I was hoping most for Harbaugh (luring him away from Stanford) and secondly for Les Miles (if possible) and thirdly for some other higher-tier coach. Then after RR, getting Brady Hoke from San Diego State was a foolish move. Michigan can afford to go big, not take chances on someone from San Diego State.
I'm fine with Rodriguez doing well at Arizona. If he hired into a situation where he didn't have to fix the defense, then he doesn't have what was his demise at Michigan. Things could go well in that case and did.
-
Brooke chat sports is a crock, they tend to throw stuff out to get traffic. Les or Harbaugh should have gotten an offer after once Carr retired but were never given one and RR was hired, then Brandon never even considered Les when he Hired Hoke. I am so glad to see DBrandon gone and I have so far been really impressed with Jim Hackett he should be given the AD job full time I say,

That too was somewhat of a failure on UM's part for not parting with the bucks needed to get Rodriguez's preferred D coordinator Jeff Casteel, but RR should have been more flexible I suppose in not insisting on the 3-3-5 odd stack defense if he didn't have a DC who knew it.

Thanks -- I'm glad to hear it, as that story would be really grim if true.

I can give a rat's posterior about "decision making" as the NFL is a joke within itself and too many defend them as it is. Harbaugh made some comments that he had no business making, the rest can be done on Google. My point has been if Jim is "immature", then his brother is one rung below him on the maturity ladder.
Jim Harbaugh is going to Ann Arbor and is the best hire NFL, or even NCAA-wise. Jim is mature and will be a perfect fit for the program.
-
One thing that is not happening for Michigan is recruiting in Ohio. Michigan used to get a good number of players from Ohio.
Since Tressel and now Meyer have arrived Michigans players from the HS rich state of Ohio football players is down.
This is not mentioned to degrade Michigan at all. It's just a fact. Teams like MSU, Penn State, ND and Michigan came a callin'
to get blue chip recruits. That has slowed somewhat in the last 6 to 7 years. 80 to 90% of the blue chips in Ohio now stay here.
Not to mention that Tressel and now Meyer get recruits from all over the nation.(Florida, Texas and California to name a few.)
I'm all for Harbaugh joining Michigan. It can only boost the BIG. I wish him well for Blues sake.
Sports announcer interviewed Woody Hayes after OSU throttled Michigan, asked why he went for two points instead of one? Woody
answered ("because I couldn't go for 3!)
BTW some of you young'uns might not know Woody and Bo were best of friends. (God how I miss both of them)
After this hire, I'll say this once, last time you will hear this from a Buckeye. Go Blue! Good luck Michigan.
-
People will want to play for Harbaugh, Ohio HS players included. Will it be difficult? Possibly, but I certainly wouldn't rule them out.
BTW, just so some are informed. I may live in Michigan, but root for the Vols. However, I am able to be transparent in all of sports. I will root for the Wolverines as long as they are not playing the Vols. My Wife, Aunt, Brother, Sister and countless friends have graduated from UM. My Mother went to UM for two years and transferred to Wayne State's Teaching program because it was superior. So I know UM.
-

And I hope that Ohio State wins the national championship. :aok

As an Ohio State fan, I just want to say that I'm glad UM got the coach they've been looking for. It's about time that UM is back in the national picture. His hire is good for both UM, the conference, and equally important- The Rivalry.
I predict Jim is going to win 8 games for UM in 2015.
