Post by: Slade on January 18, 2015, 03:21:39 PM
What single-engine-plane has the best tank gun in AH?

Do you mean anti-tank?

If so, in terms of raw maximum penetration the Ju-87G. But the NS-37 of the IL-2 is probably a better weapon system, because of it's ROF and ammo supply, which will easily do for all but the best protected tanks.

yes the Ju-87 will kill even a tiger II but if you don't have  good airsupport take the Il-2. Or if the tanks have aaa cover.

Yes, if Wirbels or Ostis are a target, take the Il-2 by all means (you may even consider taking the 23mm variant then).
If you expect enemy fighters covering the tanks, a Hurri D may be a better choice for it's better views and much better flying performance.

For Wirbels and Ostwinds i belive the 4x20mm hurri (or just about any multi cannon bird) would do the job, a steep dive and a few grenades into the turret.

The Yak 9T does good on Wirbl's and Osti's. It can also take out panzers.

It will knock out T-34's as well.  Not easy mind you, but can do it.

Yeah Ive taken a few T34s with the Yak9T. Panzers will drop to it. I like it for overall base defense. Its great for M3's,PTs, and LVTs and has MGs for spraying troops.

I hear that right after AH III is released HT is going to give us the Mossie XVIII.
57 mm of armor piercing joy delivered at a rate of one per second.

Killed a Sherman with Bk5. Took an exact hit but it can be done.

One of the better guns to kill tanks with is the Mk103

The IL-2, Hurricane IID, and the Stuka G-2 are all fine anti- tank platforms.  All three get the job done.  Though if I had to take ONE shot in ONE pass, I'd take the Stuka G-2.

Remember that the IL-2 guns are not synchronized, so your getting a single shot at the point of impact.  With that in mind if the angle of impact as close to °90 as can be in the right place it doesn't matter. With the ammo load that the IL-2 carries and the armor it has to shrug off .50 cal and 20mm anti-aircraft fire it can afford ot "spray and pray".

The Stuka G-2 and the Hurricane IID offer guns that get the job done with far less room for error. The Hurricane IID is faster, climbs far better, and is far more maneuverable than the Stuka or IL-2.

Yeah, the 37mm HE rounds fired by the P39 and Yak's can get the job done but at a far lower chance. Ditto for both of the German 30mm HE guns.

This thread ought to be called "Which is more fun to kiss, your mom or your sister?".  How about putting on your big boy pants and stepping into a B-25.  A bomber armed with a tank gun.  The same one that M-24 Chaffee used.  Until you have spent more time with your stall horn blaring than not on a sortie, you can't truly appreciate the nature of anti-tanking.  Come in at 50 feet off the deck at close to 300mph, and fire a 75mm HE shell point blank into the side of the turret of a panzer.  Or if you miss, pull into the vertical with wep engaged, drop full flaps at 100mph and hammerhead the Mitchell for another go at the target.  You'll be firing straight down onto tank now, into the thinnest of the armor. The amazing rudder authority of the 25 will allow you to swing your sights right onto the commander's hatch.  To add insult to injury, even if your first few shots don't kill the enemy tank, hose him down with 50 cal from the tail gun and you climb out for another run.

The 75mm cannon on the B-25H was the T13E1/M5 which was a lightweight version of the M3 75mm cannon found on the M4 Sherman and late model M3 Lee.  The Chaffee used the M6, which was derived from the T13E1/M5 but not the same cannon.  The only difference between the two was that the T13E1/M5 on the B-25H is slightly longer than the T13E1/M6 found on the M24 Chaffee.

I do agree that the B-25H is probably one of the best tank killers in the game with the ability for a 1 shot kill on any tank and the ability to hit at farther ranges than any other tank busting plane in the game.

Any of you gents have any screen shots showing the placement of your rounds on the tank? I love shooting at them, but can never seem to get those one pass kills (in most if not all of our tank busters in game)

Here are a couple of films tank busting and LVT hunting in a B-25H.

One of the nice benefits of the 75mm cannon on the B-25H, is that you don't need a direct hit on the soft-skinned vehicles, a near hit is usually enough to take out a vehicle like a M3, jeep or even a LVT.
