Just popped into Alpha and it was night...haven't seen that in 12+ yrs. The sunrise was gorgeous. Will the day/night cycle be a permanent part of AH3?

one of the greatest things of ifr flying is popping through clouds. hope similar realistic effects have become attainable in ah that other developers have used that realistically simulate the transition through open air and clouds.
screenshots look great too keep up the fantastic work!

Download the alpha and go look in the "Capture the Flag" online alpha arena. Clouds, clouds and more clouds.

How about your dar dot disappearing when you're in heavy clouds?

Not sure what your asking, but the shadow is generated real time.
HiTech
It's hard to figure it out because you have a layer of clouds. If the layer is missing one cloud, is there a 'hole' in the layer's shadow or is it a generic real time shadow for the layer of the cloud. If you have only one cloud, is the shadow on the ground have the shape of said cloud?
To go further and I know you usually do not answer 'direction' questions but in case :D: are you hoping to go deeper with the clouds? As of including CB shape clouds and have turbulences inside of them. (not that I think it'd bring anything to actual gameplay).

The shadow matches what you see, i.e. yes there are holes.

So each cloud casts its own shadow? That will be nice.

The shadow matches how some of you act, i.e. yes there are a-holes.
HiTech
Fixed

Under the clouds, in the current version it's much harder on the computer to fly through them.

Briefly buzzed through them last night they feel quite atmospheric. Halved the frame rates though. Eeek. Maybe for TT Purposes it is a little to thick? Are they still randomly built into the terrain? Or can they be stuck over certain bases and away from highly populated areas?

To some extent where and when the clouds go is up to the terrain designer. I doubt HTC would want any strat object permanently covered by cloud, but a 50/50 chance might be OK.
On an MA terrain there may be other restrictions imposed by HTC for framerate or other reasons. For example on the first AH cloud system a maximum of 900 clouds could be active across the map at any one time. On the second system strange visual effects could occur if cloud systems overlapped. It is too early to know what the restrictions are going to be for this setup.
