Updated without issue. Got the new map OK.

The clipboard re-sizing thing is still happening. I tried it on all the maps in the online arenas.

I find going from an airfield tower to an airfield tower--no problem.
Back and forth from an airfield tower and hangar--no problem.

VBase tower to hangar and back--no problem.

From an airfield tower or hangar to a carrier tower--the first time--no problem.
From the carrier tower to the carrier hangar--it re-sizes larger but not overly so.
From the carrier hangar to the carrier tower it now re-sizes much smaller than it was originally.

On quitting an online arena it re-sizes waaay small at the arena selection. So small it's actually hard to read the arena names.

Mission Arena:  Instead of mission start, it initiates a terrain change, and Disconnects the mission joiner.  (Duplicated this event.)

Carrier plane props still spin with engine off.

Horizon glitch is GONE!!! and looks great.... well still foggy  :bolt:  Also, it may have just been the time of daylight, but the "shiny" ground objects seemed to have been "fixed" with this patch.  (I sure hope that is correct).

today, from patch 81, auto downloaded 82, then auto downloaded 83, no problems.

played offline and noticed field and town shadows abruptly disappeared some strange goings on in object shadows under hangers and around gun emplacements are a bit flashy. some town objects had strange shadow wobbles.

mine was shadow anomalies, as if they could not decide what to do.  also shadows would abruptly disappear at a distance or altitude.

That strange muffled sound you're hearing is me talking around my feet...

New version loaded painlessly.  Re-tweaked my graphics settings, ruthlessly dialing everything but ground detail range, which I put about in the middle.  Then I cranked gamma up from .9 to 1.2 since my biggest problems were all the invisible bits in the shadows.  Away goes the contrast, and while some elements are washed out some of the scary bits hiding in the shadow are now visible.  Gun emplacements are still a pain, but at least I can see them when I'm close and have points of reference when I'm not.  Frame rate is improved at 36ish most of the time.  Still get some pretty irritating flare, but not as bad (I think that's because the sun is higher; be interesting to see the impact closer to sunset).

In any event, my issues have mostly been PEBKAC (Gamma.  That got added in WHICH version of AH1?  Shortly after the wheel was invented, I think...).

Puck go to offline and set the time in the text buffer:  .time 8 0 1   or .time 7 0 1  (note: remember to space between numbers ~ 8_0_1)

Auto updated from 82 to 83 in less than 3 or 4 minutes.  I was able to log into all 4 online arena's with no problem.  The AVA terrain download with no problems.

      The first thing I noticed were there larger base icons.  I like them.  Took a P-51D up for a spin.  I was going to take off form one end of the field and land on the other end but spent time looking at the E6B page additions.  I like that too.  Turned on final for what I though was the small airbase and noticed an exceptionally short runway.  I thought to myself "Cool,,this will be a challenging landing".  I bounced a lot but managed to stop the plane before sliding off the end of the runway.  Towered then realized I landed at a nearby vehicle base on the Fi 156 strip  :D.  The terrain is awesome.

Film viewer still stops after 2 seconds with new films.

I started the game in online mode and the update took less then two minutes. Almost 2MB per second.

After checking all the arena for the new terrain, I realized which terrain the guys were talking about. Doh!
I then checked the TE and OE and found the correct version numbers for patch 83. I didn't check the cloud editor.
The beaches and paths are working again! Thanks for that! TG waypoints work and I checked them offline after using them to update a terrain.
I saw Waffle's battleship for the first time up close.
Man you're nuts! But I love ya!

In the process, I verified the Med terrain set is available but didn't want to mess with my existing terrain work.
Now I'll have to go to work on avatunus as soon as I finish some rivers. No rest for the wicked LOL.

Auto update downloaded patch 83 in 4 mins 45 secs with no problems.

There is a minor issue I noticed with the clipboard. I logged into the AvA Alpha Arena briefly where it was night time. When I logged out back to the desktop the AH clipboard was much darker than normal, like its lighting was still being controlled by the previous arena's time setting.

Curious why you find it funny? You do realize those exact lines are used to create them in the OE?

Also what we use this function for is tile and square object creation. After creating the basic ground texture and adding trees. We use this function to create a image of just the trees on a white back ground. We then make this image a layer  to put the image of the trees (and possibly buildings) on the terrain so bellybutton the trees disappear it blends into the terrain.

I know it's not something that the average OR/TE user needs to worry about.  I just found it funny because it looks so complicated.  I meant no disrespect.  I'm glad that stuff can be read & understood by you.  To me, it might as well be in Chinese. :O

BTW it only looks complicated, it is really simply saying A times B where A & B are matrices.

Btw there are also matrices that can be set for skins. They  control what color channels and how much are used for what effect. With the _S _E system the matrices are created automatically but you can over ride the defaults.

For instance it is possible or only have a spec channel, and then have your environment be 25% of the spec channel. Or simply set all the env or spec to a fixed number (like a texture of 1 color).

The File name is xxx_NEP_MATRIX.txt or XXX_MATRIX.txt

it is set up as the following
A0 Is alpha channel of texture 0    base texture
B1 is Blue channel of texture   1    _NEP Texture (Normal Env Power)


IN CHANNEL
A0   1.0    0.0   0.0  0.0
B1   0.0    1.0   0.0  0.0
A1   0.0    0.0   1.0  0.0
 1    0.0    0.0   0.0  1.0
       S     E      P       A


S is Spec
E is Env
P is Power
A is alpha

to create the matrix file for the p51d teture set the file would be named p51d_NEP_MATRIX.txt
and would contain

It's cool to look over the shoulder of Dale for a brief moment.  I can remember being told that numbers ruled the world.... it's okay if some of US only see colors ....... 

Having grown up with a brother that would do trig for "fun"  :confused: it is good to know that this country is broad enough to include all different kinds of thinkers......

On another note, anything about why the mission arena changes terrain instead of letting you join?

i tried mission arena and it seemed to stop in briefing room.

logged in, waited for mission to end, said populates in 9 minutes, waited till populates, a20 a6m2 mission populates pops up, i join axis, says brief in 10 seconds, then 5 seconds, then im in briefing room and notice im assigned a6m2 flight 1 4 and see my name over tail plane, i look at start mission and its in the negative counting up, i hit start flight "H" and box pops up u cant spawn during mission, i stare at the briefing room screen for another 5 minutes and log off.

Something keeps breaking it..... in all the arenas...... this includes the Special Events......  It acts like I described before:  Just before the launch to spawn, it starts the countdown to change terrain.  Is it possible there is a mismatch between mission and the terrain loaded?   :headscratch:

I tried the auto uploader, but I was on a patch from way back, and it was very slow, so I did the full download and it went quick.

A couple of us AK's played around tonight, and here are the notes.

I saw a frame rate improvement, nice work.  I could turn on some eye candy.  :aok

The in game Vox wasn't working

When troops are running, there was no "P" icon to indicate their presents, but we could see them chugging along.

Yes, Mission Arena ran fine, (except the part where the AI duck my shots.)  :aok  Cool, when I first saw the message I thought it was a new feature.

Did not test other arenas, but noticed there was 407 minutes until the next Special Events mission.
