Title: Hackers are friends......or.....
Post by: McShark on December 09, 2015, 05:54:16 PM
The attempt of the greatest distance travelled for an AH meet.

So, as the title says. How's that?

Last year in spring we had a huge rout in this community over a thingy called the 12 hour rule. I never bothered but many of my friends in AH did, with known results. A merciless swing of the ban hammer knocked the dwindling numbers further down. Yet, my best friend in AH, Bluberry, was not only banned from game and BBS, he was also called out in public on this forum as a hacker without any possibility to defend himself. Something that I did not see coming from the BBS administrators and I still consider it as cheap. But that's another story.

Well, life went on and while I was able to remain a member of the game ( having stayed out of all the 12 hour banter and most of the rest ) I never lost contact to Bluberry since. I missed him in game, and still do so to the day. But our friendship evolved beyond AH.

This October I receive a text from him:
"Can you take some days off?"

"How's that?" I ask back and I receive an invitation, at no expense, to spend a week's vacation in Montana for some hunting and fishing. Whatta??? I was baffled.

I live in a little country called The Netherlands. Few of you might ever have heard of it and probably less could point it out on a map. Flat as a pancake and we still wear wooden shoes. The most common thing about the Netherlands is going out for a lunch or dinner with a friend or buddy " Going Dutch" which means you split the bill in the end.

So on a cloudy October Tuesday I boarded a flight from Amsterdam to Minneapolis, on to Salt Lake City and arrived, close to midnight, after 17 hours of travel in a place I never heard of called Missoula, MT.
And there we met for the first time, Bluberry and me.
For the next week, I was treated like a king. I did not have to worry about anything. All was taken care of, I am still astonished by the way it was.

I resided in a beautiful cabin on my own, incredible food, drinks, booze as much as I could hold, guns, ammo, fishing rods, guides, you name it. I spend a total of $141 in 10 days, mainly on gifts for my wife and kids. I also was honored to be invited for a stay at Bluberry's parents home for two days.
Never ever anybody in my life has presented me with an experience like this.
I will be in debt to him forever.  :salute

So, hackers are friends. Not in all cases, but in this one, definitively. And maybe this is the farthest ever travelled for an AH meet up.

Whoever likes a little impression, check the video. I am the one with the beard.  :devil

Cheers

I thought Skuzzy in reviewing his account, discovered he had been permanently banned for hacking under another ID once, before his current permanent game ban.

What are you trying to accomplish other than showing us a video of something that blew you away because of the power of personal fortune. And now want the judge to reconsider having  punished him for committing the one infraction that gets you permanently banned for life from this game. He's a nice guy with money aside from his personal problem with hacking other people's property seems to be your statement to the judge.

I suppose if you do not appreciate HTC's position in this, then someone should post a skyyr is a nice guy film next.

Barkhorn! How have  you been man? I haven't seen you on in a while. Of course, I don't spent much time in the MA these days - so that might be why.

Sorry Skuzzy. My bad it was Hitech himself.

From Hitech: May 22, 2014

As admins if we click on any player name I also see posts in squad forums. As I am reading  a  players posting history I do not really look what forum the posts came from, so I do on occasion see squad forum stuff.

But all this has nothing to do with why the forum was close,

When we deleted all 3 of BluBerrys AH accounts, we found one of them was a squad unto himself owning the Amusement park forum. And that squad had no people in it hence why we closed the Amusement park forum. No squad, no forum.

It appears BluBerry had created a squad on a shade account with the sole purpose of wanting a BBS forum that he could control.

At the same time in searching BluBerry's account we found out he should never have been playing for the last 2or so years because he had been already banned for hacking. He some how got past our systems.

So to put this in perspective.

1. BluBerry receives a 2 week suspension for trolling with avatars, and had incurred previous suspensions.
2. After a bbs suspension BluBerry immediately comes back and tells us what we can do with it by putting a image in his signature.
3. We then find out he has been intentionally abusing our squad bbs system, to make a forum for his own play thing.
4. He has in the past hacked AH and been banned.
5. He has already been trying to come back in AH and BBS accounts.

His actions are non defensible, and it appears innocent by standers are getting sucked in.

Unfortunately, this is the problem with wealth. Those that have it, achieve it or win it, sometimes also adopt the mindset that they should be treated differently than the status quo. That some how having wealth makes you better than some who do not.

Imagine if he had chosen to use his wealth to get his own forums, make his own game....maybe all could have benefited and enjoyed.

Op I'm glad you had a good time, and enjoyed big sky country. Hopefully you chose not to share your account with him.

Any game is hackable, all things on internet are hackable, just a matter of time spent and degree of interference you want to achieve.

So sad to see such a waste of talent on such piss poor choices.

Bluberry aside it was sad how that whole thing ended over a stupid 12 hour rule.

Aside from that I guess I better go abandon my one man squad before I get banned for life.

Yes Bustr, we all read that too.  Upon reading that, some of us actually took the time to ask the right questions to the right people, and what we found doesn't jive with the picture your brain painted when it connected those two dots.  Without going where I know HTC doesn't want this thread to go, the bottom line is this... Bluberry took responsibility for the circumstances surrounding his banning, and was pretty forthcoming with anyone who asked.  HTC was right to ban him, IMO, because there shouldn't be any benefits of the doubt given with regards to anything that even looks like cheating... again, IMO.  Bluberry understood that and so does everyone else.  What Barkhorn and others realize that you don't is that there's a difference between making silly mistakes behind a keyboard (and paying for those mistakes) and being a pretty decent guy in real life.

But! But! Video games are everything in life! If you hack a video game then you are automatically the most evil, despicable, awful human being that has ever walked this Earth, no questions asked. How DARE Blueberry ruin 1 sortie out of the 1,483,886 I have flown! I still remember that nightmarish day even now. I was flying along and I saw on 200 that someone was hacking. I immediately tabbed out to report this to HTC and when I tabbed back in I had flown into a mountain. My K/D went from 1.3 to 1.2. Truly disgusts me! HOW DARE HE RUIN MY K/D IN A VIDEO GAME!

Joking aside, way to hit the nail on the head.  :aok

Bluberry was a cool guy. Yes he was banned for hacking once, but he admitted his mistake and apologized for it. That's the difference bustr. BluBerry admitted his mistake and apologized. Skyyr refused to ever admit making a mistake and instead tried to save his own skin by throwing his own squadmates under the bus and take the fall for him.

Bluberry = Cool decent human being
Skyyr = Hateful piece of trash who treats everyone like crap

Glad to see you're having fun Bark! Hope you enjoyed your visit to the US (looks like you did  :) )  :salute

He's a nice guy with money aside from his personal problem with hacking other people's property seems to be your statement to the judge.

The first time maybe a lack of sound judgment as a young guy. The second time was pre meditation and choosing to violate HTC property by trespassing. He didn't notify HTC he was back on the property under another alias after being permanently banned from the property. Simple Criminal trespass in the real world. It took premeditation to commit the trespass. That was not a mistake of youth.

Hacking is theft of private property. I guess round two was sleep walking on the internet to the extreme. Oh! sorry your honor, I woke up and I had a whole new account and persona and well no one noticed I was back.

I'm glad he is a nice guy. Many nice guys who are poor and wealthy alike are in jail doing terms for many crimes. He got off with banning twice. And they are truly nice guys to their friends. And they still chose to commit the crimes that got them locked up while being nice guys to their friends. And their friends will all swear on a stack of bibles they are nice guys. And they and their friends all swear that the owner of the property is the bad guy for catching them breaking the law along with anyone who takes the property owner's side.

Blu was a nice guy as he presented himself from what I could ever see. Except he has a problem with violating other people's intellectual property.

Wait, are we really comparing hacking a video game to breaking the law in the real world? Are we saying that hacking a video game is on the same level as commiting crimes in the real world? Please tell me we aren't. Please please PLEASE tell me we're not! It's a video game! No one cares!

Is it annoying when you run into a hacker in a video game? Yes, but it's a video game. It's not like someone is breaking into your house, holds you at gun point threatening to kill you, and then proceeds to steal everything you own.

Video games =/= Real life

You are damaging property when you hack. You are ruining the livelihood of several people. When these clowns were banned the game became so much better.

You are ruining the livelihood of several people.

I don't understand this. How can hacking a game ruin people's livelihoods? unless their entire life revolves around video games in which case they need to step outside and get some fresh air. Video games aren't everything in life and if your livelihood is ruined because some hacker hacked a game for 5 minutes before being perma-banned then something is wrong there.

Hacking isn't right but to say that hackers ruin people's lives is just crazy.

lol... again, we can't go where we need to go because HTC (very rightly so) doesn't want specifics of such things discussed.  What you need to wrap your head around and admit is that unlike some who've come and gone via the ban hammer, you don't really know very much at all about this situation.  Yeah I know, you think you know all you need to know to type more walls of text and trump up the ambiguity surrounding the whole thing like it's a big secret because it was so full of malice... but trust me when I say, if Bluberry as a player or a person sank to the level of simple no good, dirty rotten cheating bastage, I and others wouldn't be typing what we're typing.

I can't be any clearer Bustr.  Bluberry did what he did and owned it, HTC took care of what they needed to take care of to protect the integrity of the game, and called it a day.  Those who actually cared asked what needed asked, and what we found out wasn't what we admittedly first thought.  You can rest easy and let it go knowing everyone involved did the right thing in the end.

Actually he's a lying fraud who needs the Internet so he can pretend to be a real man. I might add there are rules about hijacking threads and I suggest you read up on them. This thread is about bustr and it's in your best interest to pay the proper respect or suffer accordingly. There's a wall of text brewing and believe  me boy, you want no part of it.

If you had a bit more information, you'd be less worried that they got fooled and the game was harmed and more reassured that they don't play around when it comes to the integrity of the game.  They're pretty quick and ruthless and as a player, that's exactly how I want them to be.  As someone who doesn't like cheaters but also thinks Bluberry is a decent guy, I can tell you that having a little bit of info makes a world of difference.

Video games =/= Real life

I really didn't want to get involved in this to any degree but have to comment after reading this.

Hacking is/can be a real life crime.  There's something in the real world called intellectual property rights.  Most software developers have you accept a EULA (end used license agreement) and most specifically prohibit reverse engineering (hacking).  I didn't bother to check but can be reasonably sure there's one included with AH.

Breaking the EULA can be prosecuted in the real world and has been successfully done many many times.

The most relevant occasion memorable to this situation was when John Henry bought Papyrus racing games and started prosecuting (or threatening to prosecute)  all the developers who were producing mods for those games, essentially shutting down the entire Papyrus racing games community, prior to the launch of iRacing.

Hacking to modify existing software can allow a person to make minor changes then re-sell said software as a new product.  Not likely the case here but integrity of the game is.  If HT let everyone hack/cheat his subscriber base would dry up.  He, Skuzzy and the entire HT crew (most of who's entire life revolves around this game) would be out of work.  Just because it doesn't affect hundreds or you as a player doesn't mean it's not impacting peoples livelihoods.
