This game has such diversity, that its a shame people either don't get a chance to use it all, or don't take the time to find out about it all. I see new guys looking to get into it, and getting frustrated, I see guys that have been here awhile and getting bored with it. let me make a few constructive suggestions.
New guys: if you're getting creamed all the time, ask for some help. sometimes even from the guy that killed you. many are willing to help you, some wont. if that doesn't work, go to the training arena and look for morfiend, he's awesome as a trainer! any of the other trainers are great too. they still help me out at times and ive been playing for almost 10 years.
bored guys and new guys: try some of the more organized events in the game. there's usually a little less face shooting or dweeby stuff and its a lot more fun in my opinion.
suggestions:
Join a squad or a different squad: new guys, this would be helpful to you in helping you get better at the game and have someone to talk to, to show you the ropes if you will. Bored guys, changing squads might help give you a new perspective on the game. could help keep you interested. http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/board,19.0.html (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/board,19.0.html)
FSO--Friday night squad operations: 3 Friday nights a month at 11pm EST. you have to be part of a squad, so if you want to check it out, my group, JG54 will always take new guys, if we know about you ahead of time. yes this is a shameless plug for jg54, but heck I'm writing this!!
Monday Night madness in the AVA arena: Monday nights in the AVA from 8-10pm EST-- its a free for all with the midwar planeset, but we have a couple of rules. It stays pretty civilized for the most part, for a couple of hours on Monday nights.
Extreme Air Racing league: Tuesday night at 1000pm EST in the Special Events Arena(SEA). Beardawg runs it and its a ton of fun, and extremely exciting.
AVA staff squad night: Tuesday night at 9Pm EST in the AVA arena. also a fun free for all. most people are less likely to Ho you and its a good chance to meet the guys that run the AVA.
Wednesday Night Snapshots: once a month of Wednesday nights, they have a "day in the war" events. very interesting very fun and very diverse, always something different.
Thursday Night tank fights: every Thursday night in the AH3 axis vs allies arena, we have a tank battle. we get to test out the new game for htc and have some fun at it. always something different.
Scenarios: the occasional scenario's that come up. join up with them, volunteer as a commander, immerse yourself some and make the game fun!
KOTH: King of the Hill--- twice a month on Friday nights at 5pm EST, there's a king of the hill event. It's a same plane free for all, last man standing is the winner!
for those of you who are bored, and even new guys: get more involved in the game. talk to the AVA staff(another shameless plug) or the CM staff about becoming a CM for one of the arena's. they could always use new blood, new ideas and new fun!!
the arena staff always needs help running things or trying new things. FSO guys need people to create and execute good setups on Friday nights. they could use terrain builders too.
with the new AH3 coming there will be plenty more for people to get involved in.
talk to people, talk to CM's, talk to trainers. if you're new ask, if you're bored get involved!
these are all just suggestions to help make the game fun for you. it is what you make of it. see the ahevents page for other options http://ahevents.org/ (http://ahevents.org/)
Well I hope some of these suggestions make it fun for you, if you're new, or fun for you again, if you're bored ! if not, you can always contact me and we'll get you started in the right direction. I'm always around to help.
if some of the information above is off base, please feel free to jump in and straighten me out, but lets try to keep this one constructive.

The only thing I can add would be ... If you want some help one on one, please feel free to talk with the AvA staff. A few of us are always willing to help!!
-
I want to add that all new players are welcomed! :aok

Couldn't have said it better!

If you give me $20 you can join my squad.

Might help if more players looked here at the board.

I agree, maybe people should announce the bbs address in the game now and then on 200 or on country.
-
On the htc main page, they only need to use the Forum menu and don't need to remember the address.
Remind them to bookmark the bbs in their browser once they find it.

Most of the events and alternate arenas and FSO and stuff only work if you live in the US or are unemployed.
But hey, we all know it's my fault for being a foreigner.
-
so, get a little more involved and run something at new Zealand/Australian time? it would be awesome to have people running stuff not only EST but also NZ/Australian time. and maybe some English ones too, to run Greenwich mean time! 24 hour a day party!!

I have a New Zealander flying FSO with my squad, we could use another Kiwi, come join us! <S>

Not for Scenarios or "This Day in WWII" both run at prime European times.

I used to run "This Day in WWII: Milne Bay" at prime Australian time. It doesn't get participation.
We do run Scenarios and "This Day in WWII" events at 8 pm UK time and have been doing so for many years.

Europe and NZ are on almost exactly opposite sides of the planet. I've never understood the insistence that somehow this means we can join in. The seasons are also reversed. AH gets really busy during the Winter months in the Northern Hemisphere which is our Summer and I'm not sure that it's a reasonable expectation to sit inside in the middle of the day in Summer, if I want to fly with more than 10-20 people.

He's unemployed, retired or has no kids living at home.

I know that.

You are totally misunderstanding what I said. I said that I tried prime time Australia, and no one showed up, so I don't do it anymore.
Separately, someone commented on how we should have special events at prime time Europe, to which I responded that we've already been doing that for many years.

Hmmm, he just returned from Dallas from Business and I believe he has a son.
I could be wrong, his name is Vulcan.
-
I know Vulcan both online and in meatspace. I simply do not have the ability to make the time to play games that he seems to have.
The fact remains, most of us make time for this sort of thing in the evening after the chores are done. That just means there'll be no one on for me. I'm not complaining about it. It's how it is. AH is a desert at the times I can play.

I wish that were different. :(

As I have just deleted my account after more than a few years I decided to have a look on the board to see how things were going.
For me it was not a question of getting bored, more a case of not really enjoying the game as I used to. I don't have the time to commit to squads and such although I have in the past. I liked to be able to log on and join in with the action. If I saw a player in trouble on my side I would frequently get stuck in (whatever the odds!) to help out. If I saw one doing OK in a one to one I would leave him to it. I suppose after time I got a little tired with have a good one on one only to have a hoard of "friendlies" come down to help. No fun to have them all lined up behind you with tracers flying past trying to get the kill! - It will always happen but I think it took some of the pleasure away when it started to happen too often.
The organised events are without doubt the best way to play if you have the time to devote both in terms of airtime and clock time, in my case GMT.
My own style of play was to get on-line when I could and have a couple of hours of fun.
I thought of bring my lad into the game but knowing he would not like being shot down so often as all new players will be I was hoping the new beta would allow 1 v 1 without subscription so he could get some airtime with me. Unfortunately that is not going to happen.
So now I have my full CH setup and trackIR currently idle while I move on to other things that do give me more pleasure.
Last but not least, I did email to find out if I could suspend my account (It is a very old account!) and keep my game ID - No response, so that didn't help either. In the end I hit the "delete account" button which makes it rather more final. - Wow just looked, at least 14 years! - but still a "newbie" compared to some!

I was under the impression that the beta is open and free for all to download providing they have a forum account to access the download.
As for when it goes live I still hope HTC keeps some of the (empty) arenas F2P, such as the tank / DA / TA and WWI arenas. Just so new players can experiment and then go on to the paid for MA with half a clue as to how to play.
Sorry to hear your leaving right at a time when we are hoping for an influx of new players etc. Lord knows GMT hours needs every available player to keep the action up off hours.
