Very unnecessary fact to know: A tank on the moon can (in theory) killshoot itself simply by firing a sabot round, Watch it fly around the moon and hit the tank in the rear..
-
I always thought this was the case. :old:
-
Now you know. :D

Just curious, what is escape velocity for the moon?

According to the NASA Moon Fact Sheet (http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/factsheet/moonfact.html). 2.38 Km/sec, or 5323.9 MPH.

So much for my plan of shooting down orbiting Nazi space ships from the moons surface with my AR-15's!
-
Nazi space ships? :bhead :rofl
They have a base on the back side of the moon but no space ship. (A noob named Hans-Günther wrecked it)
-
Don't forget those who escaped to the hollow earth and will return anytime now... :D

Escape velocity is quite different from orbiting velocity, and your AR only needs to achieve a suborbital interception of the Nazi ships in orbit. Your AR should be able to reach up to a pretty high orbit on the moon.

Hmmm, hear I thought they were in Antarctica awaiting orders.... :noid
:salute

Icebergs are actually nazi subs. How do you think the titanic sank? :old:
-
AHIII must have a moon map for tankers :)
-
I'd move after firing.

a tank can killshoot itself on earth by firing a sabot round almost straight up, watch it fly waaaayyy up there and come back on its head.
True story.
-
If it brings enough energy with it back down to penetrate the tank yes.

No air on the moon so starting your engine might be a problem. You'd have to get out and push. :D

Really. Please explain how they got the tube true vertical and then also compensated for coriolis effect not to mention upper wind drift. I tend to doubt that at terminal velocity a sabot projectile would penetrate the thin roof armor, again how did the tank got from on end to fire vertically to horizontal to present the roof to the incoming round?
-
oh, its easy.

it can easily be done. just like shooting a round in the moon will kill your tank.
