After downloading the patch file, a documents window opens instead of the self install process.

Cannot duplicate that.  Sounds like a corrupt download though.

Did you do a manual download of the patch or through the game?

I found the download file in the ahb temp folder.  Running it started the process.

It was a download through the game.  The file went to the temp folder but patched fine once initiated.

yup, it opened 'C:\Users\$$$\Documents' window.

Looks like another file path issue.

Where is the temp folder? Didn't search for it, just closed and tried again. That's why I checked here, not much of a computer guy

Same problem here - updating through the game, download starts but closes without any indication on download progress bar.  I found the patch file in the AH temp folder, though, ran it, and update seemed to work OK.  Haven't tried logging into an arena yet though

Ran Updater Beta 38 to 41 (w\ new patch fix).........
.exe still didn't execute after download finished.......opened my documents folder instead.
Had to go into C:\HitechCreations\Aces High Beta\temp folder to execute the .exe......all good from there.

FYI....................

 :salute

PS--Umm I think I missed using the manual patch repair in Hitech's thread to fix this..............
I have ran this manual patch and all went well.
We'll see if all is restored on the next patch update.

Go to your C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High III Beta then find the "temp" folder.  You should find the patch file in the temp folder.  Click on that, it should install, and make your life good again.  Worked for me.

Installed without problem.  Frame rates on my system identical to previous patches (back to Patch 22).

Quote
Action: Added some vehicle anti-stick code which moves your vehicle when you get stuck on trees or objects. (Needs Testing)

Tested many trees in SFMA (online) and CraterMA (offline).  Never managed to get permanently stuck to a tree (whereas in previous patches this was a common occurrence).  The new code does lead to odd behavior.  A common way to get stuck to a tree in previous patches is to side swipe a tree on the high side of a slope.  In the new patch this sometimes results in the tank slowly (on it's own) sliding sideways down the hill through the tree.  Also ran across some pine trees I could drive through unaffected while identical pine trees nearby would cause a collision.  This was rare however.  One example:

30161,139,1532,-1.1,1.7,29.2   craterma   FOV = 50.5

Both of these, however, are far superior to getting permanently stuck to trees.

Ok found something. My look forward button no longer works as it did previously. I use Trackir and have a button mapped to "look forward" around the nose of planes. In this latest patch, it no longer overrides my Trackir head position? I lean and hit my button but view doesn't change? The button still works, as far as in the mapping area, just has no effect. Even with number pad keys for views, it also use to override TIR head movements but no longer does. Am I missing something or has it really changed?

It's changed press back view and move your head.

Do you use 3 axis only?

No, I run it all but Trueview. Yes it seems the look forward is the only one that changed, that I can tell. The num pad still goes to those views but before, as long as you held the key pressed no head movement happened. (it moves now). When I think about it, I guess I am always looking forward so to speak, just liked to slave view to gun sight position around the nose. I adjusted some deadband in TIR to compensate for this. Just have to make sure I keep inside that dead zone.

It's changed press back view and move your head.

With TrackIR when you use the hat views the head position moves in reference to the front view. For example if you look left with the hat and move your head left your virtual head subjectively moves forward. When you turn your head left it looks left but moving your head left only moves your virtual head left in the forward or front view.

In VR the head position movement is correct for every view direction. It's only different with TrackIR. It's most apparent when moving your head while holding the left or right hat views. The subjective X axis becomes the Z axis.

right! I don't use the hat for any views at all. Mine are all used for flaps, gear and zoom stuff. I just noticed my look forward button wasn't having the same effect it use too. I had it set up so that while I was leaning to the side to look around the nose, I could hit my LF button and it would slave my view to my gun sight position. Before this last update it canceled out any movement but lean. Even the Num pad keys would not allow movement other than the lean. Now though all head movement is allowed with buttons pushed. I could get an approx. setup using more deadband in my TIR curves,it just isn't as natural feeling, yet.

Took a Panzer on a sticky tree patrol. Everything was fine until I hit the first tree. I was able to back away a couple of feet and then the game froze. I still heard the engine sound and had a clear forward view but the game would not respond to any controls or keyboard command. I then discovered that I could not minimize the game using the windows key or ALT-F4. I finally had to turn off my computer. After booting again I logged back in to AH3 and got the message that my 5 min had expired although it had been less than 5 min. I was able to get into a Panzer in the hangar. Again I could hear the engine running but everything was completely locked up again and I had to turn off the computer again. This was my first sortie since installing the latest patch.

Tried to duplicate this in DX11 an could not. Used the same tank from the same base  (V6) and drove into the same tree. No lockup. Everything continued to work fine. Logged back into DX9 and got as far as tower. Computer locked up again and had to turn it off.

Ctrl Alt Delete and task manager should also get you out of lockups. Simpler then rebooting.

Thanks. That worked. I tried again and got as far as selecting a base before lockup. No problem with DX11.
