Right now, the radar icon is being tied to the plane class. A single Mossie XVI appears as a bomber, same as a a SBD, despite being hardly distinguishable from fighters of same size.
In my opinion, it would not only makesomewhat more sense to make the icon type depending on the presence of formations - it would also open some interesting tactical choices.

+1 and I like the bomber icons.. But ya an SBD or d3a shouldn't show up like a set of b29's.
-
I think so too. :aok
I suggest Icon size for Single / Twin / more engine.
-
+1 - makes sense - the size of the target (large vs small) is all we need the radar to display.
-
Tie the bomber icon to formation use would be cool. No formation and it shows as a fighter.

NEIN! :noid (where's that thumbs down thingy)

WAIT!!!!!
I did not think about this! Terrible news to the mossie XVI tactical fliers...
I always fly mossie XVI as a single and pretend to be a mossie fighter. This way I can get through enemy fighters that dare not face me HO, or scatter because they still carry the scars of the mossie VI on their behinds.
The bomber icon blows away my "look away, I am a VI" tactic!!!
Please HTC, put bomber icon on formations only.
it is also not fair towards SBDs, TBMs, and B5N...
+1 to the original post.

Well should a single B-29 show as a fighter?

In theory not.
But it would make things more complicated to implement if you base it on formations and individual plane size . That's why I proposed formation only.
Besides, flying a bomber as a single and getting a smaller icon is one of things I thought of when I mentioned "interesting tactical choices". You can fly your heavy bomber somewhat more 'sneaky', but at a cost of 1/3rd payload and a significantly higher vulnerability.

I think an intermediate size aircraft icon is needed for attack aircraft and twin engine fighters.

Definition of attack aircraft in this context is?

This could be a good thing in game for smaller bombers: B-25, Boston, Betty, He 111, TBM, Tu-2, Mossie XVI; but not for the bombers with large payloads or good defensive capability should always be shown with the full size bomber icon regardless of formations: B-17, B-24, B-26, B-29, Lancaster, Ju 88 and the Ki-67.

Single or twin engine aircraft of intermediate size. IE: wingspan longer than an Hellcat
-
Single or twin engine aircraft of intermediate size.
"Single engine aircraft of intermediate size" is a very blurry line though...

I look at it like this: could a radar operator tell the difference between a P-38, Bf 110, TBM, or an IL2 based on size? Probably not.

Would he be able to tell the difference between a Hellcat and an Il-2? probably not either.

I think the B38 needs to get a bomber icon from now on. :D
