Title: Some Lag questions within the game
Post by: JunkyII on November 28, 2016, 12:05:06 AM
Two questions

1. Say that player A is being told by his enemy that he is lagging but Player A's countrymen is telling him he's not lagging, could it be rendering lag differently on both ends just because of the country they are on??? (Friendly vs enemy)

I personally believe the only reason the countrymen may not be really seeing the lag is because simply how focused are you on your friendly birds in the area short of where they are within the vicinity and can they help if I need it? But with enemy you are looking at where their nose is pointing, flaps out or not, energy state, ect ect....so you are more likely going to notice it as an enemy then a friendly.

2. Could the distance that skins render possibly give a time when a plane is likely to "jump"?

I've heard this is true maybe not with lag(internet) but your system dropping FPS to render in the skin......skins render in at 800????something like that??? Could this be why people think people are lagging on purpose when in all reality it's just bad connection???

No.  If you see someone lagging, but others do not, then, typically, it is your Internet connection to the server being the issue.

All drawn textures are preloaded before you ever see them, which includes skins.

In the example of friendly vs enemy what if it's like a lot of enemy see the lag (like 4 or 5) and a few friendlys don't?

Not one for speculating.  I would need a film so I could ascertain the precise circumstances.  There are many factors involved.  Distances (game and network), hardware loads, background processes, all the various configurations of the game itself, and a number of other items can all contribute.

Out of curiosity, what if the friendlies all were from the other side of the globe than the enemies? Like Europeans v.s. Americans, 200-ish ping time v.s. 50-ish?

And that is what I am saying.  Without a film, we can speculate all day long.  Yes, that scenario is also a possibility Bizman.

Thanks, that was an answer good enough. Knowing something is possible helps.  :salute

Can you not just right click on your map/clipboard and select Net Status?

Wouldn't this show you if it is actually you that might be experiencing lag issues?

I did this, it wasn't on my end....I was just curious if country could have an effect on what people see in lag and Skuzzy answered it without seeing a film.....there could be a multitude of reasons for lag and such.

Only reason I brought it up was the player was intent on saying they weren't lagging even though like 6 enemy were all saying the same thing.

Actually, not necessarily.  The graphs measure local computer latencies and server response.  Your network connection can be incredibly wonky (high technology term) and the graphs may not show it.  The ping details may show more.

And your ping will only show half of the story that being the packets from your PC to the server, not the return trip which could be the actual problem.

The game ping includes both directions.  It uses the same packet system as the game as well. It is not an ICMP ECHO packet.

I meant as in using a ping plotter or trace route would only show the way into the server. You guys would have to trace the route back from your end. Even so, the Internet being the wonky thing that it is, could go from perfect to coughing up a hairball and back in a few seconds. Cyber Monday prolly ain't helping things!

Absolutely true.
