Title: Aces High III auto download
Post by: Swampyrv on December 04, 2016, 10:39:19 AM
Hi guys,
been ages so here goes.
last time I went to play, message came up, current version out of date, do you wish to install new version?. I clicked yes, auto download kicked in and all sorted.
This time, no joy.
Does this mean I have to reinstall totally from scratch?. If so, no problem, but forum main screen says auto download should work if you've got an older version?. Any ideas?

Cheers.
Swampyrv.

If you have never played the new version, then it would be best to download and install it. Make sure it installs in a NEW folder and not some previous version of Aces High.

Thanks Skuzzy,

No need to do that. AH3 will create folders of its own. You'd also be able to transport your settings after the installation from the old game.

Welcome back!

Post a Dxdiag report (top third) here and we can see what your trying to play on. The new version is much more dependent on the video card. The old version use to use the CPU.

WOW! 20 seconds faster Morf  :neener:

You just barely make the minimum requirements with that. That is a very weak video card.

When you first start the game, go into the video setting and turn down the textures to at least 512. Then once you log into an arena, go to the settings there and start turning stuff off to get a playable frame rate. Set environment to none and turn shadows off to start.

Post by: Skuzzy on December 05, 2016, 06:07:46 AM
You no longer need to go to an arena to adjust the graphic settings.  They can be done from the splash screen.

Select the "Graphic Detail" option and check every option with the word "Disable" in it.  Move the "Environment Map" slider to "None".

As what was said before.  The NVidia 620 video card is a very low end video card.  Aces High III offloads all the graphic work to the video card, so frame rate is going to depend on the video card performance.

Hi guys.
As always thank you for the replies and advice. A very welcome change to go onto a forum as a novice, and get help rather than having the pi** taken out of you coz your unsure of stuff. Any recommendations on makes of video card upgrades that can be purchased over here in the U.K?

cheers

Your CPU is fine.  I would be a bit concerned with the system only having 4GB of system RAM, as Windows 8/8.1 likes memory and it being an OEM computer, it is going to be running a lot of bloatware.  If you have cleaned out the bloatware, you might (I say "might" just to cover myself, rather than saying "should") get away with 4GB.

Sorry what is bloatware?
Would the nvidia 9800gtx graphics card be sufficient. Is my cpu able to power it?

Sorry.  Bloatware are programs loaded on a computer which the user has no need for.  The take up resources (storage, memory, video...).  OEM's are notorious (HP and Dell are among the worse) for loading up many applications on a computer.  Example:  If you look at the Windows task manager and the count of background processes.  It is not unusual for an HP computer to have up to 80 background processes, where the normal OS has only about 35.

The 9800GTX card is a baseline minimum performance card to run Aces High III. It is not a card we recommend.  It can be used as a comparison to whatever card you have, or are planning to purchase.  Keeping in mind, it is a baseline performance card.  This means is will run the game, but every graphic option has to be disabled along with minimizing the texture size as well.

Swampy, by taking a look at your specs there's a couple of things to consider when improving the video performance.

The first one is size. A ruler is your friend, measure how much space you have both for length and thickness. High end video cards can be 30 cm/12" long and even 3 card slots thick plus the air intake space needed below them.

The second one is power. Your rig has a 300 watt power supply which means you can't consider high end cards using that one. Hopefully your HP uses a standard size power supply with standard wiring which would allow you to upgrade your power supply, too. IIRC they're attached both with the four backplate screws and a latch inside the case - the space between the latch and the back plate being just one mm too short for a standard PSU! I've managed to omit the latch, it gives in enough.

There's decent video cards on the market that are both small sized and modest in their power usage. Some don't even have an external power connector. But if your power supply has a video card power cable, it gives you more options to choose from. Here's some alternatives for low powered/small sized systems: http://www.xtremegaminerd.com/best-budget-entry-level-graphics-cards/ (http://www.xtremegaminerd.com/best-budget-entry-level-graphics-cards/). Notice that they won't make your system the best AH3 rig ever, but they'd definitely allow for mostly playable frame rates using default settings.

Wow, a lot to consider, and take-in. :O
maybe id be better off getting a new pc with everything in place to start with. I dont get on AH much, but its a great sim/game, for not a great cost per month. I dont wanna miss out!!

Thanks again for all your help, its much appreciated.

Might be worth considering building your own if you have the interest.  I recently did so and enjoyed it.  Good luck and hope to see you back in!

If you end up building your own, use some compilation tool like pcpartpicker (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/) and send the sketch here for evaluation. Shopping for parts will be much easier with a fine honed list.

[Edit] Rather than exactly "here", post it in the "Hardware and Software" forum.

Hi Guys.
just to add a quickie on the back of my existing thread.

Been offered this as a gaming cpu. its a company here in the U.K that builds from scratch. Theyve had a Quick look at AH3, and recommended this.......

CPU Intel Pentium g4560
4GB DDR4 memory 2133MHz
GeForce GTX1050 Windforce oc2g Graphics Card
1TB hard drive
500w Aerocool integrator 80+cert power supply
Standard integrated sound card
ASUS pce n15 300Mbps WiFi
Windows10 Home 64 operating System.

All for Under £600.00 Please have can you have a look for me, and add any comments, on anything you would recommend changing for running the sim. I gotta do something my frame rate is sometimes down to below 10.

Thanks Swampyrv..... Cooler06 in game.

I do not think 4GB of system RAM is enough with Windows 10.  I would go 8GB, as a minimum.

The GTX 1050 is an okay video card.  You might have to tweak down some of the graphic settings, but overall not a bad card.

Hi Skuzzy,
ok ill change the  RAM to 8GB 2133MHz crucial DDR4, but what card would you recommend. I dont really want to have to turn down graphic settings...........Apart from being a crap shot,i believe this may be the reason i get killed a lot ;)

If you're going to play on a single monitor, the 1060 would allow you to run on at least default settings, with the Environment slider on 1.

If at all possible, connect the computer to your modem/router with an Ethernet cable and leave the WiFi card out of the compilation. WiFi can cause packet losses which may lead to misinformation of your location vs. the opponent, allowing him to kill you instead of the opposite.

Bizman,
Thank you, duly noted, the PC is right next to the router so plug-in is no problem.....Wireless removed. Now i can spend a little more on a better card.

Just went thru the new computer build routine. I chose a EVGA 1060sc 6gig, and a 55" 1080p 120hz TV monitor. Running the game Wide Open, test mode it gets 100+ FR. Looks fantastic :aok to me.

Only playing offline so far tho. So the FR might drop a little when the screen is full of Red Icons! But even then I don't expect any problems, it'll be way above average.

My EVGA 1060 cost $219 on sale, a very good name brand..
Some other 1060's may not be as delux, but you can get for under $200.

Yep, I'd say the 6gig vid memory is worth a little extra $.
I like a high "Bang for Bucks" ratio. This 55" rig, really bangs my eyeballs, lol!

The BB experts here sure helped me get fixed up right.
I LOVE this machine,

Happy toy shopping :D

Well, there you all have it!.

Rule of thumb on this forum.... It don't make you an idiot for not knowing, it makes you an idiot for not asking, and buying something that doesn't work or your not happy with.

These guys here don't bite.

Thanks for all your help and comments.

Swampyrv..... Cooler06 in game.   :salute
