Well, I let my emotions take over last night. Got my Panther stuck between a couple of small trees. Played around for 10 minutes or so and got loose only to drive 10 feet and get stuck again. All the while and FI dropping smoke on me. Just more than I could handle. Deleted my account and sent 5K perk points into purgatory. So long guys, Might check back down the road and see if things have changed. McAdoo (salute).

I get the frustration. Was over a extra large base tonight, frame rates normally are over 60 for me, my FR fell to 16... It was frustrating as it was the only fight on the map.
Hopefully your break will get you to reframe things, and come back with a new perspective. <S>

I drive a M-8 full speed through the trees on a regular basis. After awhile you get used to the patterns and take
the appropriate route. I used to get stuck, but I never go through a certain clump or style of really dense trees. There are several styles or formations that I stay away from. If I do get stuck, I shut off my engine, restart and use the S key to back out.
Works every time.
Get to know your trees! Planes have a much harder time finding your GV when you shut off your engine and wait it out.
Way less bomb-starding in the version. Amen.

Getting stuck in trees really, really, really sucks.

Call them maybe they have not deleted it yet or you still had time left.

I honestly dont understand the "tree" issues. While it is true, I dont GV as much as a lot of you, I have only been stuck once...and that was before AH3 went live. I M3 and wirb quite often, just dont Tank often. Are you guys driving full speed from turret position or something? I could see that being a problem. I hardly even drive a jeep in driver position, always from gunner or gunner/observer position. Not trying to be difficult, i hear this issue talked about in game incessantly and am just trying to understand the "How come". I guess it could also be a How you drive or better yet, what controller you use to drive? I have rudder pedals, so I guess that would be alot easier than using Key commands? How do you guys navigate the trees? So maybe we can shift the "trees suck" type discussion to a "This will help you" type discussion? Of all the gripes folk have, for me personally, trees are way down on my list of things to change.
-
I drive my M-8 from the observer position. Certain trees have patterns. An example, palm trees: you cannot always go through them full speed but if you turn 45 degrees to the left or right, you can navigate them full speed and will not hit a tree. After a certain distance you will see you can go straight, then you can go back to your original heading and continue full speed. As for the trees that go all the way down to the ground (ie. center of CraterMA) you have to turn left or right and go around and stay out of the thick cropping. You will get stuck as certain close croppings will not let a gv pass. The more time you spend navigating the trees the more you learn. It does not take long to learn all of the patterns.
My two cents.

Yep! Practice practice practice! Question for ya Mano. What do you mean by "trees all the way into the ground"? Figure its a lost in translation thing? :x Most trees do in fact go all the way to the ground HA :headscratch:

Wow really over trees? :) I could see it if it was over the stupid way the eny is set up. That makes me want quit more than anything else and my still do it. Say rooks have 30 players on and bish have 17 players on and nits have 13 players on. Now rooks get a high eny but might be getting attacked from both sides so still it is 30 to 30 but Rooks have to defend with high eny airplanes. Just made the numbers up and countries used as examples but I am sure we have all seen it regardless of which side we play on. This needs to be fixed, some of way to even out high player to low player sides. But as usual will fall on deaf ears at HQ.

Yep the trees are really over the top in AH III and it's like they have some kind of adhesive on the bark that latches onto your tank and you can't get loose. I will say if you hide under the big thick ones the planes really have a hard time finding you more so that it was in AH II. There were roads on AH II, clear cuts through the trees that were on all the cardinal directions of the compass, I'd like to see those clear cuts reintroduced to AH III
I think the tank icons need to go as a few of our overland missions the 49th ran were some how compromised, had an upper from a base and the plane flew right to us.........and we didn't flash the base, but his guy shows up out of now where. The way he found us was obvious, but the rules of the BB don't allow me to say how he did it......but we all know how he did it. We didn't need GV Icons in AH II we don't need it here. Same thing with the bomber icons..dump em. All in all AH III is nice to look at but it has a long way to go, the ground game has been really restricted in this version more so that the aerial portion of the game, from what I can see nothing has really changed there with the exception of the HUD display that they never had in WWII....I like it, helps when turning those lumbering B29s at 30k.

from a film of a 49'er mission they posted-they got busted-he is referring to a spy--he startin to sound like Sfox.
and AH2 did have gv icons but less trees..AH3 has a lot of African Umbrella Trees, in which a gv can easily hide under. HTC removed a bunch of trees since release. and if you get stuck-and hold reverse button down were the tank keeps moving the tree will release you takes about 5 minutes, HTC put a program in just for that, I can't remember what he called it.

so what does gv icons have to do with your missions getting busted--most times a base is gonna flash wether radar is up or down.
stopped-engine off gv's are almost invisible as it is. topic hijacked
McAdoo sorry to see you go.. a bit extreme though. goodbye

There is no real reason to have Icons.. if they have to be on then only people on the vox should be able to see them not some shade account that parks on the other country....get the picture or do I have to draw you stick people?
-
I may know why some are getting stuck in the trees.... I use foot peddles to steer and sometimes I may have a peddle slightly depressed... for some reason this prevents me from changing into reverse... it just keeps me in a forward gear... you need to take your foot off the peddles.
My $.02 worth

While I see your point, it is a good one by the way. I dont see how not showing vehicle ids would help much. To me, its a plus. Thats a great way to coordinate an attack plan. Then again, I dont get in to many cross country vehicle type of situations. I can definitely see where icons could be a problem. Its really mind boggling how some folk can get off on spying. It is true...every body I know just really likes killing you guys! :devil This sort of thing is really just sad. Maybe this person has a fetish or a grudge? Its part of the game though, so i guess its just one of those thing we must deal with.

I never GV but one day I decided to bring troops in a lvt. I ended up getting stuck by a tiny branch. I drove M3's before and certain trees I drive right through them....something needs fixing for sure.
-
Does not have to be a shade account it can be on of your own county men telling the other side where you are. Case in point there was a player a while back texting the position of tanks on a base, he got caught when he made the mistake of forgetting what channel he was texting on and made the text in green for all his country men to read.

You guys do know this is how the Americans won the battle of the bulge right? The Ardennes had a lot of trees...

Have been thinking the same thing: What's all this I hear about tanks in trees?

My understanding, and have heard this alot, its because they cant just go full speed AND navigate the trees. All vehicles have brakes :neener: I think this problem will just fade out given time. Its pretty easy IMHO to navigate the trees. Adapt and over come! I am by no means even a mediocre tanker. If I can do it, I see no reason for pros to manage it. True, its not what you are use too, but adapting to environmental changes is a hallmark of surviving those changes

Thanks for the comments guys. I know everyone has their own opinion on this issue. I just can't believe that it hasn't been addressed. I personally just got sick and tired of it. Probably just me and my impatience. I hope the game is treating the rest of you well. With great respect. Mcadoo

Other tank sim's just make heavy woods impossible to penetrate, ie you stop, but you don't get stuck, and can back out of it.
Smaller trees/brush and you just pass over, as it should be, but stop visual sighting, without damaging them-

When the foliage (the leaves) are at ground level, those are the trees that GV's cannot go through period. If you spawn into the middle of CraterMA they are everywhere. You have to go around that type of tree cluster.

The tree's "hit box" is too large on the ones with the smaller branches so IRL you would think "yea sure I can drive right there and be fine" but in AH you get halfway past the tree then get stuck on the branch....doesn't make sense.
-
The trees are absolutely absurd. No other sim even comes close to this velcro/snare you/hang you up where you cant shoot gibberish. If you even touch those cedar saplings, or whatever they're supposed to be, they immediately ensnare you - and don't come downhill onto one of these hidden monsters, the enemy will track your struggling feeble direction reversals before you ever get loose. What is this supposed to simulate, the deep dark woods where creepy things happen? Because that is what it seems like. Give the trees good solid bounding boxes or let us drive through them. I don't see what is the big deal about needing to make them partially solid, it definitely does not increase the immersion. I've done a ton of vehicle sims, I create 3d simulator content and my kdr tends to support my assertions to at least a small extent. I don't really post here a lot, probably won't get into any big hash over it, but you really should address it, the OP is spot on.

Last night I was in a T34 running around a heavily wooded area and had no issues getting around the trees while driving in the commander position and using the twisty stick to turn

There will be bugs!

I was driving in the same area as Meatwad in a panzer and I did get stuck in a tree. I took a minute of tapping on the reverse button, but I popped out and continued on my way. No problem with trees.
People have to remember this is a new game. I feel that some players, if they were playing a racing game and had trouble making it through the turns would complain the turns are too tight instead of learning to drive.

In RL tanks get stuck in trees so RL tankers stay away from larger trees. AH3 models this. Years ago I was trying out WB, the tanks just drove thru anything, trees, buildings etc. You could launch a tank in a direction towards an nme country, come back later and it was still driving in that direction, nothing stopped it except ocean.

I'd agree that they stay away from the trunk of a tree but there's branches, which proportionately speaking, would easily break....but as modeled currently they will stop a tank with a decent distance out from the trunk of the tree.

When the trees get the best of me, I find the best way to get through the trees is to fly over them in an airplane!
