There are two Ta 152's still available for the upcoming "Hell Over the Hinterland" scenario (air combat during Battle of the Bulge).
One of them is YOURS! :aok

Hmm I do like the 152 :D

Yea but remember, you have to be able to fly it!          :D :D :D :D :D :D :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :bolt:

I am not able to get the time off from work or I would be all over this, and I would smite thee in it.

and I would smite thee in it.
:aok

One of the Ta 152's has the name "Krusty" painted on as pilot name. :aok

Why that little!!! :furious
I'll sue for copyright infringement! What? Fox is calling? Uhm... never mind that copyright comment. :uhoh

don't know how well you would do <20k with some beast mode Allied aircraft hunting you down! :D

Well... to be fair, it bests the spit16 and p47 for speed at any alt. The tempest may be faster but I would wager the Ta has better turning ability with those long wings. However, there's only 2 tempests as well, so chances of a Ta v. Temp fight would probably be slim. The P-51D would be a contender, but there's also only 6 of those and depending on how the fight unfolds I'd probably give the edge to a well-flown Ta instead of the P-51.
Theoretically... "theoretically" mind you... the Ta152 is the best plane in the set at the moment. Assuming you don't let a complete yobbo like Krusty into one.
Oh, wait. :x

You are giving the TA152 too much credit....Above 20K it's a rockstar but below that it's comparable to a early/Mid war fighters.
-
I may be rusty as sin, but I flew a LOT of midwar planes. I enjoyed C2s to no end, I loved P-40s, I enjoyed P-39s. I was found often flying 109Es and Fs in the LWA.
I can say without any doubt whatsoever that the 152 is uber compared to anything you could classify as "midwar" -- and holds its own 1v1 against most other planes in the game. That's across all types of engagement, and at all alts. It's not "the best" but it's definitely on the top end of the spectrum. Much like a Spit14, nobody takes the time to learn how to fly it properly to appreciate this. They just try to use it to run or only BnZ targets. You have to fly it halfway between a 109K and a 190D.
-
The TA in the right hands is deadly at any altitude :)
-
Who was it that really used to dominate in it? Moot? Is he still around? Does he want in on the scenario? :x

Other then Zoney I probably have the most time logged in the 152 these days....It's problems when fighting are it's a 190 without the roll rate but the power of a dora but not the top speed.
What I mean it doesn't roll like an A5 can so it struggles a bit there and often leads to the 152 flat spin most experience in it. It has the power of the dora so like the dora or K4(or any 109) it can hang on it's prop well which opens up some performance in vertical scissors....not as much as a dora or P51D though (P51 has the added flaps which make it more formidable)
I don't remember how Moot flew it (people have told me he turned with Spit 16s which doesn't make sense unless he was flat out cheating) but I imagine he was using a mix of it's ability to accelerate quickly in a dive with its ability to hang on its prop to fight vs planes turning...which makes it look like he's "turn fighting" but really he's E fighting.
An example of that is in this film from 40-120....what your seeing is almost a rolling scissors but a very elongated one on my end which is causing him to lose energy giving me the ability to go vertical against him....this is the situation I try to press in all engagements in the 152....a time where my opponent energy state is near mine where he has enough to think he will climb with me but underestimates the speed I gained in a very shallow quick dive (also what I do on BRDs)
[youtube]https://youtu.be/6pWCVcZOANE[youtube]
Point I'll leave is this...Probably the best match up for the TA152 in a low alt fight is the P47D11 (early war plane)....about 20K it gets its real handle to it. I'm better in a 152 then most...but I'll lose 10 out of 10 under 20K vs myself in a P51D just because the P51 can fight in a more All around manner, it's characteristics of high speed handling, flaps, uber rudder allow it to do so.
-
I'll fight anyone P47D25 vs a TA152...deck merge (me in the Jug) to provide proof of my claims....only way the 152 has a shot is by an E merge to get a rope but I'll be E merging every time so that won't work...once it's in rolling scissors (which most fights progress to) it's over....
Only times I've won a fight without an E merge is because I notice a mistake in their merge.
-
I appreciate your perspective and will take it as a word of caution as I try to practice before frame 1.

Is this a challenge? ;)
-
I think Dreidioc (or however you spell it) is good in the Ta 152.
-
Junky can we do this right now? I'm bored and want a good fun fight.
-
Is this a challenge? ;)
Absolutely, it's not me being cocky I just know from experience the TA152 is a slug down low just like early and mid war planes....which is why it's fun to turn fight in the MA...it also has a very thin edge that you have to ride to make it perform...which is why it's better then flying a lot of higher ENY rides
-
I honestly think people's biggest problem with the 152 is they take too much fuel.
You can totally get away with taking 25% in the MA.
It's not as big a slug down low as people think. But it has been a long time, maybe I view it through rose-tinted glasses.
-
She's definitely a slug down low and slow haha. It's just about creating angles really.

Exactly, which isn't the plane's performance.

No it's a slug down low compared to its late war counterparts...down low, it's closer to the D11, 38G, 51B, ect ect.
-
What ever you do with a plane imo classifies as its performance. Maybe we just have different terminology. But I'll be online this evening junky if you wanna test your theory. Should be fun!

You can create angles in any plane...some better then others....and that better then others portion is where the performance of the aircraft comes into play...the plane is physically easier to position for an angle with better performance.

And, as i said before, when you get guns on, even for a second, the other guy blows up. There is something to be said for killing quickly. I always assume that the enemies buddy or buddies are inbound asap to save him. Get in, get the kill, get ready for the next one.
Not that I am an expert, but this is not a plane for beginners, she is unforgiving. I think it's the easiest plane to put in a flat spin. If you want to fly it well, you must stick with it. The problem is once you get used to her, them guns spoil ya.

Still haven't answered my question on doing the duel you requested :)

I shouldn't need to answer that question to anyone TBH, I'm one of the few in game willing to duel almost whenever depending on what my squad is doing(Tuesday and Friday nights are squad times)

The guns are the only reason it should maintain its ENY...its a monster in that regard mainly because the 20s hit so hard on top of the 30MM

I'm amazed that the Germans were so far behind as to build a late war bird that was no better than an American early war bird. Fantastic story there. :D

I wish I had M00ts films of the stuff he did in that thing. It was incredible.

Yep. Unless the flight model has changed... anyone suggesting the 152 isn't effective at lower alts simply does not know how to fly it.
-

Ive ran into a few guys who can flutter that thing around at lower altitudes and kinda aggravate you with it.
-
Idk what that guy did in it but the angles he created while at low speed was really nice. He could only make about 1 or 2 before the plane just couldn't do anything else but that's all you need. Best pilot I've ever seen fly that damn thing.
-
The standard 190 Dora is better at lower altitudes. The 152H is a dedicated high-altitude interceptor and excelles above 25k. But even on the deck it can leave a P-47D-25 behind at will.
And outfight it in the vertical.

-
Good points predator. The 152 in my opinion will lose the fight on the deck with all flaps out on both planes. Thats obvious. But if you fight the planes fight utilizing the vertical performance it should win.
-
I wouldn't be so sure on out-turning the 152 in the D-25. With full flaps and 25% fuel the 152 has a smaller turning radius than the 47. It turns faster too.
Full flaps
Plane/fuel/radius/degrees per sec
TA-152-H1 / 25% / 607.5 / 18.9
P47 D-25 / 25% / 640.8 / 15.2

It isn't a purse fight I just think it's funny when people think a 152 is easy when most of the community won't fly it because they put it into a flat spin....curious if it's so lethal at MA alt...why is it not flown more....
-
The 152 is easy if you go to 10k and just BnZ. Other than one of the hardest to be good in.

True but a lot of people...like Relic think it's some sort of monster down low which is just not true. Relic...open challenge to you specifically, show me how good you are in a 152....

P38, F4u, P51, 109, KI84, BREW ect ect ect....same can be said for all of them when it comes to BnZ....
My point, TA152 has a very specific use which it is awesome for and what it was designed for....hunting and killing bombers...it's arguably the best at that....other then that...it's not comparable to other low eny planes for fighter vs fighter other then in the alts nobody goes to other then Chalenge. :D

As far as I can see you're the only person using the word "monster". He said it was "effective", and it is effective at any altitude. Down low it is not as effective as the Tempest or 190 Dora in this scenario, but it is close enough to make it interesting. The P-51D only has a couple of mph on the 152 on the deck, so they are really close, also in climb performance.
In this scenario I rank the fighters:
Tier 1
Tempest
190D
Tier 2
109K
P-51D
Ta-152
Tier 3
Everything else.
If any one ride really stands out as dominant down low it is the Tempest.

AND I was responding to a comment about Moot's abilities in the 152 - not mine. I guess since Junky is the self proclaimed authority, I will defer to his prowess.

Oh you were just jabbing at me and don't actually know a thing about the 152...the reason moot did well in it was because he was a good stick, not because of the plane.Yep. Read your quote and tell me I'm wrong for thinking that...

Don't despair. Maybe someday you will be as good as Moot in it.

I have flown it. The last couple of days and find it to be a nice plane to fly. Very pilot friendly.

She's a beauty isn't she :). I love it. All of its quirks. The rudder on her can make some shots haha.

pilot friendly? Ehhh I'm not sure lol. I find it almost too easy to send it into a death spin. Reminds me of iL-2 BoS.

I have yet to find this spin. I have flown it at 10k and on the deck. I have flown it fast and slow. I've turned it low and slow enough for it to waggle a bit. Seemed easy enough to control.

Come off the throttle and use a little rudder when intitiating a roll. You'll see

LOL I stalled it vertical last night and floated like a leaf to the ground.
Realized my pedals were disconnected too late.

Haha any time I've ever stalled it I've never recovered. I just can't do it lol
-
Haven't flown the 152 since AH2, but... Recovering from the flat-spin was done by shutting down the engine, extend landing gear, opposite rudder and push the stick all the way forward. Once the nose comes down restart engine, retract gear, full power and pull out of the dive.

Never thought about lowering gear.

I lowered gear but needed my rudder and it was not connected to my pedals.
This is why you should do a check when you log in .... every time. :D
It is rare for my CH gear to disco... but on rare occasion boom.
BTW I filled the other slot for a TA. :aok

i truly hate you both. I so wanted to fly this plane in this scenario. You guys are probably going to suck in it too. I'd have been really really really good too.
So, in review:
