Title: PM Moderation?
Post by: 100Coogn on February 05, 2017, 03:13:24 PM
Really, we can't say a bad word in a PM? ('Personal Message')
Can say anything on squad channel, but no in a PM...  :headscratch:

What has this world become?

I guess it's become a place where people are unable to control themselves, or how they treat one another.

I have no issues.  Just noticed one of my words got changed to something like 'tomatoe'.
So the fact is, your personal messages are not so personal are they.

Forget it Jake. It's the internet.

We live in a world where some players ignore the terms of service agreement.

I wouldn't worry about a word filter in text messages.

Freedom of speech is a different issue.

Some people have impulse control issues and text filters moderate their language.

This helps protect players from abuse.

How should the system know he's a friend and expecting a certain 'flair'?
Unlike being on a squad channel, you can PM anyone and get unsolicited PMs by anyone.

Why is system in my business?
And by the way it is called. "Personal Message"

Because the system cant decide whether your "friends" chatting, or someone being an A hole, ALL PMs and other "public" messages are controlled.

Squads, well your suppose to know what your getting into so you get a pass.

Coogan

Nobody's spying on your PMs .... nobody's in 'your business.' But then, this isn't your business. It's HT's. Since minors can play this game then a word filter was programmed. Nobody can PM a string of vulgarities to other players. You having a hissy about that is the lesser of two evils. In other words, if you can't live without having to act out your immaturity then your leaving is worth the dozens of other players enjoying a less toxic environment and staying. Sayonara, aloha, go in peace.

If you rethink the issue and stay .... or come back (even under a different CPID) then great.  :salute

The point is, if the filters were NOT there you could send an PM to 12 year old laced with profanities. The system can decide if your a friend or a predator, so ALL are filtered.

It'll likely be locked no matter where you put it. But that's beside the point. Why not email Skuzzy? You can even insert whatever vulgarity you want and it won't get filtered. I may recommend some self-reflection before doing so, perhaps asking yourself 'Is this going to yield the result I desire?'

Coogan, hes a troll. I would agree though some of the moderation is a bit excessive....but the thing that comes with less moderation is more punishment when you do break the rules....even if by mistake.

Example of this is Counter Strike Global Offensive(FPS game)...you can get permabanned for voice comms and chat violations.

Slow your roll dude.
I simply asked why we can not speak freely in a PM.  (to another adult)

Coogan

I really did not think this had to be explained.

The bulletin board software has no idea who you are talking to.  Whether it is a PM or a post.  It is just the way the board is written.  Something we have no control over.

To have a filter means it all gets filtered.

Truth is many people think they can abuse someone using the PM system, and they try.  Another truth is, it is software who has no idea who you are or who you are talking to.

Now, the reason the filter exists at all is use to a couple of reasons.

1)  It helps stop the stupid angry person from making a fool of themselves or saying something they can never recover from.

2)  It helps stop the troll who would post derogatory things just to be disruptive.

This is our place of business.  We do not want the reputation of being a business which allows abusive behavior to take place.
