Alright guys I have been in this game for quite awhile and I am thinking about starting to use Track IR. I would like the low down on this item and general opinion as to wheter it is worth it
to get this add on. I understand that it makes it easier for field of view and more natural motions. But I would like an overall opinion from everyone that would like to reply.

Got my TrackIr 11 yeas ago and never looked back. Felt completeley natural after some time of profile tweaking (which is very important). Soon I couldn't fly with any kind of hat views anymore at all.
-
I wouldn't be able to fly without TrackIR now. I got it about a year and a half ago and its been a huge game changer. Check the classifieds section, there are a few for sale.
-
When I first started using Track IR it was uncomfortable. Took a bit of getting used to. Some people even get vertigo, but I didn't, and I think most aren't bothered by that. But after about a week I started to get the hang of it, and now I wouldn't go back to the hat switch unless I had to. It really is a great program, and a helluva lot cheaper than VR. Initial setup will take some tweeking until you get it just right, for you, but it's fun to play with that and experiment with.

Have tried using Track IR on and off for several months and have pretty much given up on it (except for GVs). Maybe because I've used hat switch views for so many years, I find that much better for dogfighting. Scanning views is much quicker with the hat, and since the hat views are fixed relative to the aircraft they give me a better feel for the aircraft attitude (I don't use the HUD).
I do like Track IR for GVs.
YMMV.

Love my TrackIr, probably the best controller purchase in the time I've been flight simming. Would never want to go back to hat switches. It does take some getting used to and getting your profile tweaked, but I highly recommend it. :salute

Do it pops! Not long ago I was wondering the same thing, and got nothing but encouragement to get it. Took some tweaking and getting used to it, but now I immediately miss it if I'm flying and it's not on. I think it'll enhance your game. :aok

I also had 20 years of hat switch familiarity. I decided to go cold turkey on TrackIR. I found it was very difficult to transition - took me a full six months to get comfortable - but now, like others have said, I woudn't go back.

The worst thing for me is after using it for a couple of years now every time I'm watching a film or video where somebody ISN'T using it I'm moving my head trying to change the view! So yeah it kinda becomes natural!

I got mine about 6 months after getting into flight simming, so I was just starting to get decent with the hat switch.
It took a period of adjustment, but within about 3 weeks after getting it, it had taken me from being able to track the bandit to being able to track the bandit and tell what he was doing much better than I ever could with the hat switch.
I pretty much can't fly without it. One piece of advice if you're getting into it new, put in the time to get your profile exactly how you want it. Having it how you want it takes it from fighting with the system to having it become as natural as looking around. Other peoples' profiles can be a starting point, and I'd imagine there might be ones that fit many people perfectly, but I know mine is quite different from any of the others I've tried and I doubt many would like it.
Also I second what Drano said. Playing other games particularly flight sims and driving games with no trackIR support just SUCKS once you're used to it.

Do it..its great
It will notch the game up a level
Much more imersive
Can't imagine flying without it
I can send a profile if you fancy it as a starting place..
Nothing ventured nothing gained.....

I found TIR to be one of the most significant additions to my flight simming experience I've ever made. I can't imagine simming without it. I used the hat switch for many years before I switched to TIR. Now I don't even map views to my controllers, which opens up those buttons for other assignments.
It does take a little bit of time to get use to using it and to get your profile dialed in. The Fugitive has a collection of profiles here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/xehkt23l458wq87/TrackIR_profiles_7_18_15.zip
I like my profile pretty fast so I don't have to move my head a lot. I put a little dead spot in the center so I don't get movement when I'm looking straight ahead. I also turn the roll axis off, as I find that it screws with my gunnery. Also if you are using a desk chair that rolls when you fly you might want to devise a way to keep it from moving while you are playing.
When you set up TIR in game make sure to check "TrackIR Object Relative Move", Clipboard>Options>Preferences>VR. If you do get one I would be glad to meet up with you to help you set it up, and practice using it.

Got mine 3 months ago. Love it.
My advice: spend the little extra to get the trackIR that comes with the Pro Clip that attaches to your headset rather than the standard clip that attaches to the bill of a ball cap. Some say the ball cap mount can get interference from ambient lighting (sunlight through windows, reflections etc.) Pro clip version comes with both.

What he said....

Yeah I flew for years with the Hat and had a hard time switching to Track IR. Now? I wouldnt fly without it.
-
I would not fly in AH without it, and in Cliffs of Dover you pretty much must have it to be competitive.
Took me a month to get used to it.
-
Could not fly without it. It is the missing ingredient on the VR systems.
-
Had it for years, and used it with triple 40" screens the last six years, then bought an Rift.
TIR will now collect dust in the corner. No going back!

This^
I think it's the single greatest thing about virtual flying. Go with the Pro-Clip, it simplified the process and quality of function.

Hey Pops,
Go for it man, but go with the pro-clip. It will change your situation awareness and how you play the game.
Take care bro.

Does anyone have any experience with trackhat or delanclip?
It seems that, from what I have been reading, they are all about the same except trackhat and delanclip are a bit less expensive.
-
I have a new trakir with the clip selling for 65. if you order the clip pro from the manufacturer it's about 30 bucks. you can have a brand new set for around 100 bucks. if you ordered from the manufacture it would be 194 with 2 day shipping.

I use one. It looks incredibly silly, especially if you forget to take it off when answering the door :D

So are you using the trackhat or delanclip and how is it working out for you?

Yeah, well, mine is attached to a camo hunting cap so those who know me dont give it a second glance.
One thing tho is the hat one seems much more sensitive to background light. I have to make sure theres no light coming in from the shaded window behind me. Other then that its good to go and sometimes I prefer listening to the game on speakers and using a clip on mic.

Alright Guys: I took the dive and ordered my tracker and it will be here Sat 1 Apr and I also got the pro clip. So will be setting this thing up before I get surgery done on the 7th of Apr. Hope while I am recovering from surgery I will be able to get it all set up and maybe my sucky SA will improve LMAO. Thanks for all the info. :salute :airplane:

Pops, it will seem strange at first but in just a short time your brain will convinced you are looking right even though your eyes are glued to the screen. Don't forget about the speed slider. It took me about two months to get it near perfect for me. Add a revision number to yourr profiles change so if you go in the wrong direction, you can recover.
-
I'm so used to it now that when it wasn't working on a couple sorties earlier I was getting the same disoriented/sick feeling I had when I first started using it. Once you're used to it pops you won't want to fly without it.
-
I love mine, I actually use the hat switch too when looking back so I don't have to do the awkward moves lol!!! :salute :salute :salute :old:

Sorry, I totally missed that one.
I'm using the silly hat, I don't have the Track Clip Pro. Was just too expensive, and I often play without a headset anyway.
