With all my postings on these forums Photobucket has locked every image I have posted and my account unless I pay $400.00. To unlock services to post on a third party.
Just a heads up for those who use the service.

Looks like they keep finding new ways to out suck themselves.
-
Mine are still showing up here.

Mine are still showing up here.
Mine was working 12 hours ago not now though.
-
If you give me $200 I will allow you access to photomuckit :old:
-
Apparently photobucket has started some kind of account system I can't see the photos posted and I keep getting (attachment) Please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting. For important info, please go to Photobucket.com/P500 on all posts.
-
I read Hobomamas post and someone that goes by Ngan Ha moved all 5000 photos from Photomuck to Flickr.
-
If you're really pissed off about this you could always start a new service yourself. Photobucket started off with meager assets and have grown to more than $15 million in venture capital.

Hope they invested wisely because they're going to be worth 15 cents very soon.

I've been using photobucket forever, I've been tempted to try the paid service just to see how it is... The App on my phone works great, the PC version is bad with popups and adverts.
-
Damn PC version of Photobucket keeps getting in the way of my popups and adverts!!! :furious
FIXED. :P
-
I found out about this this morning when I tried to post a screenshot on another forum. Like Nef, I've been using Photobucket for years, ever since attachments were no longer allowed on these forums. However, I am retired and will definitely not be paying $399 but will look for an alternative hosting site. :furious

Yesterday I was able to post tow pictures here from photobucket without any problems. :headscratch:

Just checked out of interest - your pics are on imgur....
-
Anybody remember the Aces High Picture Hosting site?
I can't remember who ran it, the name escapes me at the moment, but I had that before Photobucket! This was like 2003/2004... When it finally closed up I went to photobucket.
-
The Picture Hanger perhaps?

The Picture Hanger perhaps?
Yep, that was it - Picture Hangar - http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php?topic=112301.15
-
My account doesn't seem to be effected yet. I did a test post and it worked. They did throw so many adds at me though that my system almost puked. :old:
-

Not all of them. You checked the wrong ones. Try these: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,387995.msg5156368.html#msg5156368 :)

Hmmm.... do you pay a subscription by any chance?
-
Test of posting from my Photobucket account.

and copy of yours

Definitely something different!
One from front page rather than a Library. Format looks identical, so what's different? Maybe the t in place of o in user ID indicates a different type of account?

I hope not :noid

Maybe they just didn't flipped the switch on all accounts at once and it may take a few days until all accounts operate under the same conditions? :headscratch:

You'll know if you suddenly see images like those in my post above in place of the originals.

Test.

It seems to work for me and I have the freeloader plan on Photobucket.

I think it all comes back to usage on third party sites. Since just about all of my Photobucket usage is used for that, they seem to be determined that the only way I can log on even is to pay the money.
-
I got the emails yesterday. They want me to upgrade too! I haven't shared anything new recently and all my existing shared photos here still seem OK.
-
Yup, got my email this week as well. All my cartoons have that lovely "update your account" picture. I down loaded all of my pictures and then canceled my account. When asked why I told them a thing or two about why :devil

Yep. Sadly, Imageshack is similar now. I used to use them back in AH2. Money money money.. :frown:
-
I got an email from them first and now it is locked out.
What other hosting sites are out there?
-
You might have gone over your storage space allotment...........You might want to delete some of your old photos or open another account. I checked my account I have only used 3% and I'm ok
-
Postimage.com
-
Test... Looks like im still good at the moment
-
Postimage.com
This is the correct answer.
-
You can pack an album on Photobucket with all of your images, download it, and then post it to whichever service you like. Google photos works fine just as an example. You might use two different services just as a security option.
-
Postimage.com
is it Postimages.org ?
-
is it Postimages.org ?
I also ran into that checking it out...Not interested in whatever it was :noid

Happened to check spam folder today and found warning emails from Photobucket about my account being restricted for 3rd party hosting. I've downloaded my images from there and deleted my account.
I've been using imgur almost exclusively since Photobucket added all those intolerable ads anyway.

How would you rate Imgur? I'm seriously considering the change to them. :headscratch:

Pretty good actually. No ads, speedy response time. Haven't run into any problems with them.
-
Then I am VERY LIKELY going to go with them now. Too bad Photobucket turned into Craptacularbuket, as I have used them for ages now. :(
-
It is only a matter of time before imgur goes the same route as photobucket.
-
Today, photobucket finally disabled my links, too. :old:
-
Photobucket showed all others how not to do it. I believe others will be more professional and keep making money.
PB just helped all other photo sharing sites.

Who would you recommend? :headscratch:
-
I'd recommend hosting your own. Then you have control over what happens.
-
Who would you recommend? :headscratch:
I host my own. I do not have any recommendation.
-
I also host my own. I don't see me holding any of my photos hostage any time soon. They've been in the same place for over a decade.
-
How do you host your own?
-
Built a Linux server, running Apache and bought a static IP address from my ISP.
-
Google photos wouldn't be a bad option. First 15GB is free, $1.99/month for 100GB, $9.99/month for 1TB, and more if needed.

Thus the reason I pay for my own site and coppermine gallery. I can host, link, and post anything I want to.
-
If you have a google email you get some hosting space for free and it seems to work fine so far

I finally got Photobucket's $400/year e-mail demand today. I deleted all my images from their site then deleted my account.
I predict within a couple of years photobucket will be a distant internet memory.

I think you guys are being optimistic concerning how long they will be around, but I have learned to never underestimate the power of stupid when it comes to people and their toys. In that vein, they may never die, and could be the next Microsoft. :)
-
I've been parking my screen captures here at Postimage.org. They are a free host used by graphic artists.

The anger from all those ruined forum threads, especially in "how to forums" or anything with a "build thread" full of images is gonna be hard to get past for them.
You hear that?
That's the sound of a million people editing posts to include the new addresses for the pictures and dropping photobucket.
Photobucket will languish with myspace.

Several years ago they started marking my original pics etc as deleted for copyright or some such. Annoyed me so much I bought my domain and installed my own pic sharing software.
