Title: Photobucket
Post by: lyric1 on June 30, 2017, 12:09:12 AM
With all my postings on these forums Photobucket has locked every image I have posted and my account unless I pay $400.00. To unlock services to post on a third party.

Just a heads up for those who use the service.

Apparently photobucket has started some kind of account system I can't see the photos posted and I keep getting (attachment)  Please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting. For important info, please go to Photobucket.com/P500 on all posts.

I read Hobomamas post and someone that goes by Ngan Ha moved all 5000 photos from Photomuck to Flickr.

If you're really pissed off about this you could always start a new service yourself. Photobucket started off with meager assets and have grown to more than $15 million in venture capital.

Hope they invested wisely because they're going to be worth 15 cents very soon.

I've been using photobucket forever, I've been tempted to try the paid service just to see how it is... The App on my phone works great, the PC version is bad with popups and adverts.

Damn PC version of Photobucket keeps getting in the way of my popups and adverts!!! :furious

I found out about this this morning when I tried to post a screenshot on another forum.  Like Nef, I've been using Photobucket for years, ever since attachments were no longer allowed on these forums.  However, I am retired and will definitely not be paying $399 but will look for an alternative hosting site.     :furious

Anybody remember the Aces High Picture Hosting site?

I can't remember who ran it, the name escapes me at the moment, but I had that before Photobucket! This was like 2003/2004... When it finally closed up I went to photobucket.

Definitely something different!

One from front page rather than a Library.  Format looks identical, so what's different?   Maybe the t in place of o in user ID  indicates a different type of account?

Maybe they just didn't flipped the switch on all accounts at once and it may take a few days until all accounts operate under the same conditions?   :headscratch:

I think it all comes back to usage on third party sites. Since just about all of my Photobucket usage is used for that, they seem to be determined that the only way I can log on even is to pay the money.

You might have gone over your storage space allotment...........You might want to delete some of your old photos or open another account. I checked my account I have only used 3% and I'm ok

You can pack an album on Photobucket with all of your images, download it, and then post it to whichever service you like. Google photos works fine just as an example. You might use two different services just as a security option.

Happened to check spam folder today and found warning emails from Photobucket about my account being restricted for 3rd party hosting.   I've downloaded my images from there and deleted my account.

I've been using imgur almost exclusively since Photobucket added all those intolerable ads anyway.

Google photos wouldn't be a bad option. First 15GB is free, $1.99/month for 100GB, $9.99/month for 1TB, and more if needed.

The anger from all those ruined forum threads, especially in "how to forums" or anything with a "build thread" full of images is gonna be hard to get past for them.

You hear that?

That's the sound of a million people editing posts to include the new addresses for the pictures and dropping photobucket.

Photobucket will languish with myspace.
