Title: My eight year old Mustang
Post by: Nypsy on July 09, 2017, 06:55:13 PM
Ford Mustang that is.
Here it is on the day I bought it in June 2009.

This picture I took today. My daily driver, through rain and sometimes sleet and snow. Just turned 100,000 miles and except for normal maintenance I have not had a single problem. Still as much fun to drive today as the day I picked it up from the dealer.

Good to see it hasn't smashed into parked cars or crowds of people yet!

Good to see it hasn't smashed into parked cars or crowds of people yet!

When I see Mustangs crashing like that i think:

1. They are drunk.
2. They have never driven a rear wheel drive car in the snow.
3. They are just bad drivers who should get back into their SUV.

Definitely pretty! I often think a part of me wishes I had gone with a muscle car instead of the truck...

My High school car was a '66 powder blue, blk hard top, .289 engine, blue custom vinyl "Pony" interior I found on a car lot in '74 that had 32,000 miles on it. The car looked barely used and cost me only $600.

I had a new '85 too. The last year of the Holley.

I've had a 67 Mustang, 68 Camaro, 73 Ventura, 77 TransAm TA6.6, Various trucks bikes and this little build...

(https://preview.ibb.co/iOud5F/Our_Family_3_18.jpg) (https://ibb.co/dr6Eea)

75 Vega Station Wagon Estate, mounted on a 75 GMC Jimmy frame shortened with custom mounts, custom fuel tank and bumpers. It had a 350 in it that was turning a few more HP than cubic inches, 38.5 monster mudders, 3.73 gears front and back driven by a turbo 350 w/ 203 transfer case.

Yeah .. that's me in my younger days. Dont look quite as redneck as I do now though.

It ran like a bat out of hell. That is on the road and in the mud. That look is my waiting on a girl look. That was taken by my Mother In Law in their driveway years ago.

Nice Mustangs guys.  We had a GT500 for a summer driving season a few years back, before my GF traded it on her GTR.  Now that the GTR is getting to be 7 years old she's been looking at new cars, including the new Mustangs, particularly the 350.  The last couple gens of Mustangs have been excellent IMO, from 2005 forward, really great cars for the $ depending on what you're doing and like.  Nice to hear about the long term reliability and longevity you guys are having with your Mustangs.

I remember the good old days in high school of the Mustang GT everyone wanted, mighty 210ish HP, which now the 4cyl turbos blow away.  Even with GM, my 97 and 2002 LT1 and LS1 Firebird and Camaro, their HP back then is outmatched by the V6 put into the rental car versions of the Camaro, big time.  Car tech is crazy now, and not just the HP, but the transmissions and chassis tech - dual clutch and CV trans, they are just nuts now.

We looked at the new Corvette Z51 and a Z06, and then the 350 (no R, the dealer can't get any, and there are only a few used 350R up here right now) - the Ford sound is amazing, better than any of the other cars IMO, Camaro, Vette, everything.   Only car that came close IMO was the Jaguar V8.

This is the only 350R we can find in Alberta right now, and the seller is willing to come down a bit in $ as they want to move it, and if GF gets a good offer on her GTR, this might be coming home.  It's essentially new, less than 700 miles on it.

I cut the convertible loose in 2015 and while I loved driving it, I've only really missed it a few days when the weather was just so.  Other than that, the GT's been great.  I replaced the factory lower control arms after getting it home from the dealer and a new tires this summer on the rear is it since new in 2014.

Now the Corvette is up for sale because the wife says we need an airplane more than we need a boat.  Okay.   :D

So many Mustangs!

They never made a Mustang I didnt love. Yankee sports cars and trucks are all thats keeping US automakers afloat. The Mustang and F-150 are Fords signature brands.

Speaking of Fords/Mustangs/F150s - saw both a 2006 Ford GT and one of the new GTs this spring/summer at the Calgary car show.  Pretty amazing car with the EcoBoost(ish) V6 in the new one.  The first time I drove an EcoBoost vehicle was testing one of the Flex square looking things for my father - pretty great power, and now the Raptor equipped one is putting out more power than the previous V8 motor.

A fun project would be to pick up a used 4cyl Ecoboost Mustang and tune that up, one of my loves was an 80s Mustang that was a 4cyl turbo.  It put out 175 HP, the new one stock is nearly double that.  There are lots around here in the $20k range with the Ecoboost performance option, and adding another $10kCDN for a Borg-Warner turbocharger, a bigger intercooler, and a Cobb Accessport used to flash the ECU, and some other easy mods will yield a car putting 500hp to the rear wheels.

SVO mustang had a 205 horsepower 4 cylinder engine.

Great swap into a ford ranger.

A couple of guys get 1000hp from the 2.3

One of the guys in our local Falcon club is shoe-horning a 3.5 V6 Ecoboost into his 65 Falcon.  At 2500 pounds, sopping wet, it should be a fun ride.  With 375HP and 470 ft/lbs of torque, I told him he better be adding more metal to the frame lest he twist the car in half the first time he floors it. :)

Nice Stang Nypsy.

I really wish ford had released a car in the US based on the falcon platform or used the mustang platform for an australian falcon.

Then it would be easy to put together a left hand drive version of this 420hp turbo inline six powered ute.

Negative.

Dozens of sources all say 175.  Including Ford's own website.

http://performance.ford.com/enthusiasts/collector-vehicles/mustang/svo/1984.html

Many think that it's 205 or more HP, but it wasn't, as the SVO was actually a second quicker 0to60 than the 302 models of that year, due to much less weight and a different drive ratio - but it was 175HP and 210lb/ft T.

I'd like to see Ford make a modern SVO and put the V6 EcoBoost engine from the Raptor/whatever into the Mustang as well, but they probably don't want to cut into their own GT sales.  It'd be cool though.  Still, the 4cyl turbo in the Mustang now, again $8kUSD in new turbo/mods, have been putting over 500 down to the rear wheels, dealers have even been selling these modded like this online.

EboBoost in a 65 Falcon - Eric Bana is a huge Ford Falcon lover and once mentioned thinking about trying something similar in an interview.  I like it.

Yes, the 1984 SVO was introduced with 175hp.

But after 1985.5 it was 200hp as advertised in ford's own brochure.

Believe me, I went through the hassle of trying to find 5 lug wheels to fit one back in the days that mustangs only had 4 lug wheels..........something about clearing the rear calipers, if I recall.

Now the XR4Ti stayed at 175hp.

Rgr Dodger - for 84 and 85 it was 175, then it was 205 for the 85.5 and then it dropped in HP again to 200 for the 86.

Xr4TI - I haven't thought about that car in a long time.
