How are numbers in the MA now during late nights - about 2100 - 2300 hrs HST? Or Axis vs Allies arena? (used to be Combat Theater?) Contemplating returning to AH after 11 years away, but I know those hours were really off-peak before.
-
Numbers have picked up somewhat since AH went live on steam last week. At this very moment, 49 players in the Melee Arena.
Axis vs Allies is always empty at this time, though.
-
mauser, I came back after about 3 years. Help the noobs out if you can. 15.00 bucks is nothing considering that price hasen't change in years. BISH. :airplane:
-
Their is a healthy amount of players everyday I have logged in Sense steam. I have also noticed more old names coming back.
-
It's healthy enough to find good action. I notice a substantial rise in numbers. Lots of new faces along with some vets returning.
-
my observations so far number wise. the day before we went to steam our max ranks wouldn't go over 1200. yesterday however I saw ranks go up to 2200. I think only a few of the new players seem to stick with us. but so far numbers are up and it feels good that the bish don't outnumber the rooks and knits so badly anymore (especially at European times).
I am very interested in how many new players will actually sub.

Numbers are going up. Lots of new call-signs. Some are really good their first day in AH.
-
Seems to be a lot of new old players now with different names.
-
The numbers would go up a lot if all the guys who are wringing their hands about the numbers being too low for them to start playing again would just start playing again.
Be the change you want to see in the world.

I would be happy to have them, but you would not be able to perceive the difference in arena numbers if they all came back.

Depends who, depends how. 20 guys who are active, fly planes, on the other team, and playing when I am would greatly improve my game experience.
20 guys doing the above on a Saturday afternoon would pretty much triple the amount of red planes in the air.
10 guys coming back flying together would make a noticeable impact even.

Could be and I hope so. Also got to factor in this isn't the only flight sim in existence. Just because they're new here doesn't mean they are going to be complete fodder. A new name that knows what he's doing might still be new to AH. That's why I think it's a bad idea to immediately jump on the "Whose shade are you?" bandwagon with new guys.
I know when I came over from WBs I had to relearn a lot of details, but what ACM I had at the time for the most part worked.

Hehehe, when I first came over from Warbirds i jumped in my trusty 190A8 and encountered a group trying to take down a 262 whom decided to cut and run just as I was diving in, probably because he was out of ammo from killing so many before I got there. So I come whistling in and light him up with the taters and get my first kill, first kill mind you, and it's a 262. I get the message "You have shot down Grizz". I get a PM about 3 seconds later..."Zoney? Zoney from Airwarrior?".
I should have quit right then and there.

But that could require much more than 20 additional subscribers. :old:

Absolutely, to achieve it on a consistent daily basis. But if it was the right guys, it might only take 40 or 50 of them to come back.
The list's different for everybody, but there are those people you noticed you ran into most times you played until they left.

You're right over time. But depending who it was, it is quite possible they'd show up as more planes in the air at the times I'm playing.

Nope not "QUITE" possible I.E. Probable. It is very very very improbable.

Guys that are in the same time zone that fly aircraft exclusively and happen to log in at similar times? Probability of all 40 of them being on at once? Probability of them noticeably affecting the arena count? You're right, extremely low.
Probability of there being enough of them to make a noticeable difference in aircraft in the air at times when there are few aircraft in the air? Not 0.

When I can finally have some time to play, it's already between 11:00 pm and 12:00 am on the west coast. Aside from those who don't sleep at night, there would be players from Asian countries showing up if they play during the day. When I signed up again several months ago there were usually only about 20-30 people in the MA at those times (I think). Some of them apparently wanted to avoid contact (the same nap-of-the-earth flying I remember they like to do) and capture bases unopposed. Are there at least 100 or so on now during those hours? If Axis vs Allies is completely empty late nights that is a bummer.
-

No.
That would be a freakin' paradise, which would us see getting close to the record numbers AH once ago had for some time.
However, 40-60 gives you much more combat opportunities than the 20 before.

This. The amount of old players who say they don't play the game because the numbers are too low make me laugh.

Overall numbers are a result of collective actions, but I only have control over my individual ones.
Wether I play or not is an individual action and makes no impact by large. I was flying here for many years, while the numbers went steadily down. Apparently my individual decision to play made no difference. But I had less and less fun in an ever less populated arena. Up to one point where I had to make another individual decision about it.

Correct. Guys like 0Rick who would sometimes play 18 hours a day are definitely noticeable when present/absent during these times. It doesn't take many to make a difference off-peak.

In european time zones 30 players online was common when I got home from work last year. I don't know what the numbers are like nowadays because I tend to log on early evening.
In general, the numbers could be broken down like this (these are broad approximations):
1/3 are on my team= 20 players to fight.
1/3 may be in tower = 14 players to fight.
1/2 of those may be fighting the other country = 7 players to fight.
1/3 of those may be in gvs = 5 enemy aircraft to fight.
The may help people who struggle to comprehend why someone may not find it enjoyable to play with low numbers.

This. The main reason I quit was our first child was born. Second child born 6 years ago. Now I feel like I can have some "me" time late at night after everyone's asleep. Even before I quit I could only spare about an hour at night to play. My objective now is to get as much action and kills as I can in an hour and a half, and if most people are driving tanks or sneaking bases thats difficult to achieve.

Yesterday or day before the lowest rank in the MA that I saw was 3208. A month before, at the end of the month, the lowest rank was around a bit less than half that. I this number reflect the number of players who have tried the MA for that month.

was glad to see over 200 in the MA this weekend. Glad to be back and see the Jokers kicking butttt. Wish the spawn points were a little closer but they have done a lot work to there credit. :aok

The furballing on the center island was approaching epic proportions. So much so we couldn't get help defending bases from the DREADED BISH HORDE! lol :noid
-
On Friday there was an epic steamrolling rook front hitting the Knits on the northwest front. Had some action there, and wasn't disappointed. Saw a squaddie down on the southeast front with a small group fighting off 4 sectors of dar bar at one point against the bish steamroller. We were getting POUNDED.
And it was quite a fun night!

Good to see you back

Someone say DREADED BISH HORDE? lol :x If was fun, I am still not up to speed yet, so small BBs into my plane first then the flying potatoes please. :airplane:
