Title: MA Players - a challenge
Post by: nrshida on September 13, 2017, 02:17:37 AM
Dear all MA players. It is my contention that you've all devolved into a bunch of hipster, lightweight, egocentric, narcisisticly-groomed nancy boys, who hide under the tactical imperatives of a 'real-war' to escape getting shot down. Of course you're pretending to save your plane to fight another day. A virtual plane. I totally believe you.

Once there was a time when a larger percentage of AH players would nut up & pitch themselves, their favourite aircraft and their finest ACM against each other in a one-on-one duel. Fight to the death and deal with it. Reflect why and try to improve for next time. This was their finest hour.

If you tire of the decadence of the gaming equivalent of your name being written on a Starbuck's coffee cup, find the cushy fantasy-protected, all-convenience and instant reward-based society tiresome, and crave for something challenging for a change. If names like Hans-Joachim Marseille, Hiroyoshi Nishizawa or Georges Guynemer mean something to you, then come and join the small cadre of Match Play regulars. Leave your ego in the hat stand at the door. Fight hard, die hard and learn from your defeats and victories. You'll learn more ACM in ten two minute fights than you will in two weeks of MA handbag contests.

Two men enter, one man leave.

See you there.

Oh dear .... 'Shida's devolved into Changeup (minus the 'real men - like us muppets - fight in the DA. I challenge any one of you to a duel in the DA with one of my squadmates!'). ;)

(Ok, not really .... maybe the 'anti-Changeup?')

Who needs ailerons with all that torque!

Bozon I've seen a video of you flying that Mosquito. Apparently you're tall enough for this ride. Be looking out for you!  :rock

Anyone else a master of one plane type or another jump on in. Never seen a Corsair there for example (tough opponent), F6F, P-38s, LA7s etc. The spawns are at random alts and locations.

All joking aside, would be great to increase the popularity of this arena.

Shida, I dropped Whatsapp, it ran my phone battery dead. what time are you usually in the DA? I'd be thrilled to get some more time in with you, any plane. I will always be glad of that day when you asked me if I REALLY wanted to learn. I still remember flying in circles, tighter and tighter and slower, flaps full, learning to judge what the planes would do. I will remember and SALUTE you till the day I die.

That's hilarious NrShida.  i do the same thing at Starbucks, make up some name that no one would ever actually saddle their kid for life with just to get the reactions when they write the name down and then call it out when the order is done.  LMAO!  Great minds think alike eh ?

Actually the whole Starbuck's thing was my poke at companies trying to make you feel 'special'. By writing your name. On a paper cup. Of some slightly burned coffee. Which you clear up yourself. And cost you €4.50.

To be completely honest Zoney, I Photoshopped that cup. I've been busy prototyping and not out of the house since this early morning  :rofl

Arlo I'd have no problem getting beaten or buying a coffee for any AH player I've fought. At the end of the day we all play this game together. Better a picktard Tempest HOing mofo on your six than no picktard Tempest HOing mofo at all

Just trying to whip up some enthusiasm for the kind of AH gameplay I like. Was getting worried there were none left.

Ah the good old days. I used be very disciplined with turning practice. Often I was the first online so I used to spend ages turning flat circles with one wingtip dragging on the water of the TA. Used to throw a roost of white spray up at one time! I should have reported that as a bug when it went away.

Learning, is what this game is / was largely about for me. I learned as much from you old friend and it is my privalage to have met you and my other friends through AH. Don't tell anyone but that's why I don't mind getting out-flown myself  ;)

Thanks to the advice of DrSpek I use Discord now for in-game comms. It's free and voice activated (no key press needed). I guess I could also start a channel on there for the MP lot. Does look a bit complicated

Are you really from the United States Virgin Islands USVI? Is it nice there? I've been watching Black Sails and want to live somewhere like that! What's the culture like and how's the internet?

What times are you typically on, Shida?  (You can use UTC or CET, as I can do the math.)

Usually my daytimes after Shida Jnr. has gone to school. I kind of work 12-14 hour days from home a.t.m. with lots of breaks whenever but I get some peace then. So sort of anytime from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. CET Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. I often just log in and potter around working waiting for someone to log on. Next week I'm probably in the workshop though, dismantling our car. Again.

p.s. I'm a Peet's Coffee and Tea guy, so I hope that will do when you whoop me silly.

See this is what I'm talking about. I love this. Kingpin's already trying to gain the psychological advantage by falsely raising my confidence and ruin my game-head by being really nice and friendly. Then when we get in there WHAM! Pwned 23 fights in a row and called a scrub noob. Love it, love it!

Said it before, will say it again:  Match Play arena is one of the nicest developments in AH3.  Shida's warning is accurate:  I spent half an hour or so in MPA this night, with Horble whipping me as if I were a recalcitrant ox.  I don't believe I won one match (out of a dozen or so), but the fights were most excellent and the knowledge gained, for the plane I was flying, should be very useful in other contexts.

For people who haven't spent much time there:  Adjust your expectations.  You are flying against very practiced people.  Like Frank Savage said, consider yourselves dead.  Then enjoy the experience.

And congrats, Horble, you owned me.

I'll do my best with the 9-hour time difference to see if we connect at some point.  Then we can find out if my psychological maneuvering is as transparent as my air combat maneuvering.   :D

Just turned 5! Loves to play 'planes' as he calls it, can get straight and level from any starting point. Firing the guns is his favourite part, just like the Red Baron  :D Mosquito is his favourite aircraft.

Painful day today. Watched several new players trickle in, fly P-51Ds openning fire at 2k before augering in never to be seen again. Tragic.

Too bad AH's most badass P-51D pilot can't log in to the MPA and show how it's done. Noooooo, he's swimming around the MA like a barracuda looking for slower fish to munch on.  :D

Ah the Yin and Yang of ACM. There's a few in there that push me too. Like Horble said who cares about win and lose. I make you better you make me better...  Was only spanking you today so you'd listen to my next batch of advice. Otherwise I've got the credibility of DrDeath telling me I couldn't turn fight, after I'd beaten him. In a turn fight.

Also, for those still slightly interested but not tried yet I'd lilke to point out that the Match Play is something new in AH. It can be same plane duelling as the DA used to be. But the way HTC has the MPA configured it is presently emerging to be a fascinating match of dissimilar planes and pilots.

Couple of fearsome Spit 9 experts ripping it up at the moment. Run what you brung, your own favourite plane choice and your best corresponding ACM. I'd only warn the super late-war monster experts there might not be enough space to get up to top speed at every starting point.

Greetings Simon. Thane of the Corsair, and the unnaturally tight and unnerving nose-to-nose turn (and all-round good egg)!

Yeah I appreciate I'm a bit out of synch with US timezones. Unfortunately you just seem to have to sit there not flying. Minimum critical mass thing and all that. Haven't fought a Corsair in a long time. Maybe two years. Be good to do some matches.

Hope you are well.  :salute

What can be infered from this thread receiving 829 views but so few coming to the MPA? That there is some interest in theory?

I'll make a limited offer. If I can beat you five times in a row including the first fight then I'll teach you intermediate merging techniques and tactical approaches to the 1-on-1. It's a good deal, take it  :)

I'm unfortuantely placed in Timezones. I'm on CET (Central European Time) and I can usually only play in my daytimes. That would be say between 3-9 a.m. Texas time.

If there's anyway you can get on sometime then, I'd be happy to help.  :salute

What is a match play arena? http://www.hitechcreations.com/gameinfo/gameinfo-arenas (http://www.hitechcreations.com/gameinfo/gameinfo-arenas) I see it in arena list when log on but don`t see any set up information etc. How does it differ from dueling arena? Just curious. Going against the unknown in MA is a lot more exiting than any set up one-on-one duel IMHO and I get plenty 1v1 over there.

I guarantee if you invest some time learning in the MPA, it'd eventually translate to more success / enjoyment in the MA.

Those arena descriptions are terribly out of date. Someone ought to report that as a bug...

Well Astrix I used to be in the DA a lot before I came to the MA. The MPA differs mainly in 3 respects:

1 - You just choose to go there. If there are opponents in there you join the queue and just fly - no talking, no smack-talk, no MA handbag arguments to bring you there, no MA ego-melting consequences when you're finished. Nice clean fights.

2 - Air spawing just compresses the ACM massively. No takeoffs and tiresome climbouts. You spawn into visual range and begin your merge. Every hour in there is really really dense ACM.

3 - In the past the duelling fields of the DA were almost exclusively same plane duelling. That's not the culture which has now emerged in the MPA (which is fascinating in itself). The most popular fights are 1-on-1 mixed plane matches. So you have an exciting mix of fans of particular aircraft with different levels of ACM knowledge competing.

I have thousands of hours in my favourite plane. I daresay in the last 7 years there aren't any players who match it. However only in the last few months have I ever been driven to explore tactics, plane control and ACM as much as I have duelling experts in different types. If you can just see the result being not being the number of kills / deaths scored and consider it instead to be what you learn about your plane and yourself, you'll win everytime!

It is not random, it is set in the terrain with a spawn points. The arena cycles threw all of its spawn points.

In the past the duelling fields of the DA were almost exclusively same plane duelling. That's not the culture which has now emerged in the MPA (which is fascinating in itself). The most popular fights are 1-on-1 mixed plane matches.

True.  It's one of the best ways to figure out what your plane's strengths are (if any), and, similarly, its weaknesses.  Fought Pollux there this night, him in a 109F, me in the family 202.  One pity-the-oldman fight, but then a superb match, each of us using his ride to its strengths.  Assuming you've made up your mind to die, you try things you ordinarily might not.  Most excellent fun.

- oldman (Pollux won the good fight, too - of course - but it wasn't easy!)

Spent a couple of hours there today with Blinky.  Great fun with a guy who has a good attitude.

Found out I can tail spin and flat spin a Spit1 with ease  :)

That is unfortunately the population of AH3 that is taking over.  Spend more time trying to exploit the flaws in the game to sneak a base or do something else for self gain.  The good days when it was just an all out fight for bases is over.  Now its just sneak bases and protect score.  Shame.  Look at the numbers.  Now I have to climb to 30k in a 410 and fire HE rounds at strat raiders from 2.5 out cause you know that happened.  Everyone gets a trophy

I'm unfortuantely placed in Timezones. I'm on CET (Central European Time) and I can usually only play in my daytimes. That would be say between 3-9 a.m. Texas time.

If there's anyway you can get on sometime then, I'd be happy to help.  :salute

Any chances to find you in MPA in weekends around 8 - 10 pm CET?
Euroflyer here as well....

You've been promoted to my little black book of 'Barstards against whom not to pull any ACM punches'

I wouldn't say a master of the Corsair. I'm set rusty but know a few tricks in a dogfight... I'm pretty good at turn fighting at around 100 knots lol
