Will the Americans have bombers enabled?

I don't recall them being involved on December 7th,1941...other then the flight that was supposed to come in on that morning.....and they would have been unarmed

In the meantime, the Pearl Harbor battle rages in the AvA (https://youtu.be/NWtQJwPXY6s). Great practice for Brook's Pearl Harbor. And here's some screenshots (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,390681.msg5189420.html#msg5189420) from the AvA terrain. It runs all weeks.

That terrain in AvA is AWESOME.

Folks, if you haven't been in there to see what a great job they did, you owe it to yourself to do so!  :aok

Am I left to assume this will be the same as years past? The US at 20,000 feet circling for the raiding japanese? aka the pearl harbor turkey shoot.  I really dont want to be duped again.

 :salute

I will give credit to you for getting me excited again, hoping for a realistic setup.

Heh.  Probably one of those historical battles that can't be structured to be perfectly fair, no matter what you do.

Years ago we came up with the "Lost Cause" series of wargames we'd like to see some day.  They included, of course, Pearl Harbor, along with Custer's Last Stand, the Alamo and others that seemed to have preordained conclusions.

well it could be made more realistic if you couldn't launch until the base you're at started flashing. then it would be a mad scramble. the other problem is the sheer numbers of one side vs the other. if both sides are even, then its already out of whack. if you lean more to one side, then that side complains they got slaughtered. how do you make it reasonably even? historically, it wasn't! 2-1 numbers should help keep it close.

I was there year 1. 100+ IIRC. There was a attempt to wait until flashing but some dweeb went NOE and flashed the base early.  Who ever was in charge opened the US airfield (because the base flashed) The IJN was still 15 miles out at seven thousand feet in rice burners.  When the IJN got to Pearl the US was in the clouds waiting.  Every year since, The US was allowed to up early in a "If Foresight was 20/20" rational.  Giving the US time to circle at 20,000 feet.

I see in the write up "In first launch, IJN launches. Script is typed (see below). Then US launches." only there is no details "below".

Got my hopes up, so i had to ask.

Here is the setup in all details:

http://ahevents.net/index.php/events/this-day-in-wwii?task=view&id=608

No event is perfect according to every person.  You make something red, someone wants it blue.  You make it blue, and someone else wants it red.

This particular "This Day in WWII" event -- and I'm not talking here about any other Pearl event in some other format, snapshot, or what have you, as I don't know anything about how those went -- has run many times over the past many years, is the most-popular by far of all "This Day in WWII" setups, and has been highly liked by the vast majority of attendees.

Please join us for the fun if it seems like it will be fun to you.

If it's not your thing, that is OK, too.

And we (Japan) we outnumbered most of the event, and the guys also suffered from having me on the team.

WOOT!

Must have been some really good sticks on the Japanese side.  I never got to see much of it as I spent most of my time in a state of being blown up. :D

I flew B5N's in it and had a blast.  Lots of action, lots of fun!

On my last mission, Odee in his F4F got me right before I was going to get a torpedo off for one of those tempting American ships!

In response to another child of the Greatest Generation I posted this in another BBS I'm involved with.  Puts things into perspective about Pearl Harbor and WWII.

Some of you know who Roger Freeman is.  This is a quote from a book published 1 year before his death in 2005 about the Greatest Generation.

Pay particular attention to the first line.  It is true.

I posted this awhile back in a response to a post Betty made.

This was written by Roger Freeman. A British Aviation History Journalist.

Explains the term "Greatest Generation" Those of us who are children of the greatest generation know why they are called the "Greatest".

Betty while looking at your father in laws pictures and reading you post I knew that I had read something about his generation (our parents). So I looked in my library where I might have read that statement. I found it in a book written by Roger A. Freeman. from England, a noted military aviation author who wrote "Wolfpack Warriors" a history of the famed 56th FG during WWII. This book was published in 2004 one year before his death....................and so he says

"Progress wrought by the passage of time changes the character of a nation. If honest endeavor backed by a charitable religious faith is the best mould of mankind, then for the citizens of the United States of America that period approaching the mid-twentieth century was the zenith. The good and bad, the strong and weak, are with all nations; but in general, by the yardstick of moral human assessment, the generation of young Americans raised in the nineteen-twenties and thirties were of the best. Decent people with an ingrained sense of duty to what in their subconscious was God's own country. Thus were they with an ethos that would serve them well but test them severely."

No truer words have been written. We owe them much. As an example let me explain. When US Bomber Crew started flying missions over fortress Europe their loss of life was very high. Morale was at an all time low. The airmen could not see the light at the end of the tunnel. They feared without some restriction that many, many of them would not return home. The US Army Air Corps gave them that "light", a foreseeable goal. After 25 missions they would be able to go home.

Let me post a sad fact telling us all about the resolve in which these air crew suffered willingly. 70% of these young men would not get to the 25 mission mark. 10 aircrew in a bomber, do the math. Our Navy and Army as well as our Marine Corps. fought with a resolve to finish this tragic conflict. They sacrificed willingly as our armed forces today and throughout our history have done in to many wars. Unfortunately to many to list.

I feel that is incumbent to us, the Sons and Daughters of that generation to teach what has been passed along to them by our parents. It is also important for us to criticize what we see today if we see something troubling. To point out fallacies and wrong doing today. It is in our peoples best interests, as it is the world's. I'm afraid we've lost what our parents did and how they faced wrongdoing.
