Title: Strange X52 pinky button issue
Post by: Spikes on December 17, 2017, 11:48:55 AM
Hi all,

Recently I have discovered an issue with the pinky button (Button 6 in Properties, button 5 in-game).

At first I thought it just crapped the bed because it stopped working, but today I realized Windows recognizes the button under Devices>Properties whenever I press it. I went into Aces and it suddenly worked. I've narrowed it down to the button only works in-game when I have the properties window up. As soon as I close the properties window and tab back into the game, the pinky button no longer registers in game. If I alt tab and open the window back up and tab back in, it works again. I've also tried running the game as admin.

Any thoughts?

Are you using the latest signed drivers from [Logitech] (http://support.logitech.com/en_us/product/x52-space-flight-simulator-controller/downloads#)
Their drivers are supposed to be a bit more stable than Saiteks'.

I installed those latest drivers - no change unfortunately. Now I can't even open the Game Controller Settings right click menu, I click it and nothing happens.

Unfortunate really, every other button works in AH besides the pinky button.

on my old 2 x52 sticks I always had that window open as well. For some reason the stick works better that way

Did you try going to Control Panel/Devices and Printers?
Your X52 HOTAS should be in the list.  Right click on the icon and select Game Controller Settings/Properties.
You can also create a short-cut on your desktop to eliminate all that navigation, just to check the controller settings.

I just confirmed - my pinky hasn't worked in ages - but with the panel open, it works in game. I'm using the latest LOGITECH drivers and prior the latest Saitek. Panel closed - Aces High doesn't register the pinky switch.

I'm thinking the problem may be related to the SST software.
Here's a link to a gamer having a similar issue.  Elite Dangerous Forums (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/20567-Problem-with-X52-Joy-6-button)

Basically they're advising to go into the SST programing software and remap the pinky switch button. (that is if you have a profile programed)  If not, then right-click on
the X52 icon over by the clock and select 'clear'.

If working properly, the pinky trigger should display on the throttle MFD when pressed.

I don't use the SST software, but when I press the pinky key it does display on the MFD...and the MFD says No Profile.

I've just tried that. Doesn't work either.  So is the issue with Aces High then?

Another thing to check is to make sure the following two settings are unchecked.

Clutch mode will disable the Pinkie Switch.
If either of the boxes are checked, clear them.
You have to hit Apply and OK, before change will take effect.

Have you tried using the SST Software to check that something may not have been changed or reset?
I would try that just to see if the switch is registering within it's own application.

All of my X-52s have had this problem.  The buttons I use for WEP, check6 and combat trim will only work in AH with the test screen open.

I've never had the issue, but I also use an SST profile.  I wonder if it might be due to the stick treating the pinky as a shift state button even when there's no profile loaded, and having the test window open bypasses that?

I'd be curious if someone who has this issue were to use a blank profile with SST with no shift states and see if the button starts working without the test window open.

Something is not right.
Hell, I got mine set tot trip the wire.
Maybe the switch is broke.

I've found by pulling up the HOTAS properties under game controller, and then opeing aces high the pink Button works.  The only exception is the two stage trigger on the X52. I can only get it to fire all (not recognizing the second stage).  But while the properties page is open, I can use the pinky, the mouse button, and some others that were INOP on throttle too.

Hope this helps.

I just got rid of the Saitek programming software all together as it was causing a couple of other issues - in addition to loosing the pinky.  I just use the default Microsoft joystick driver and settings. The Saitek software, while a strong tool for customization, is just a PITA in the long run - especially for other games I play.

Aces High allows you to map out the buttons individually - no need really for SST.

I use the "Pinky Switch" all the time, mine works great. I dont use any thing but Default Win drivers, no sst software. Another one of those WTH issues I guess. Wonder if it could be the TWISTY feature of the X52? Thats the only button/axis I DO NOT USE. My logitech 3Dpro had a short in a button IF TWIST was twisted to the right. Just thinking out loud :uhoh

Even though this is an old post I found that it fixed my problem with my "new" X52. Had same problems with the buttons on the throttle and the pink, not working  and the wheel scrolling up down like the mouse. I opened up the HOTAS property window and I can now use them as a regular button. But as others have said if you close it the buttons go back to working like a mouse.
