I recently ditched the consoles and moved back to PC gaming. Picked up a new HOTAS setup yesterday, and looking to get back into things. I used to fly Air Warrior back in the old days (DOS, Windows, 2, 3), and can't find anything out there close to it, except for this. Looking forward to getting smoked by you guys while I relearn how to fly...where's that old Robert Shaw book?
-
Welcome aboard.
Hope to see you in the sky. (I make an easy target)
Coogan :airplane:

Welcome!

Welcome. :D
AW #755
-
Fighter Combat Tactics and Maneuvering by Robert L. Shaw is still in print.
If a site is posting a PDF of that book, they may be doing so without permission. If they are doing it with permission, then they need to say so.

Nice find! Ive got the hardcover laying around somewhere from the 90s...bought it to learn how to BnZ lol
-
welcome aboard! I have been here since AW closed its doors. Was MDJOE there. Aces High is a great game but with lots to learn. Ask questions both here and in game. most people are happy to help!
-
Welcome back! hope to see you in the skies! :devil
-
Welcome! It's great to have you here.
Air Warrior. ...Zoney
-
Welcome back. :aok
Aces high is the place for former air warriors.
Also, we are currently running a scenario, like we used to run in air warrior. You are welcome to come play in it. It is saturday, 3 pm eastern, in special events 2 arena. :rock

Welcome to AH :salute
Many of us were AW pilots back in the day, you might find some old friends here. I was Qwik there too, with the JV44 squad on the AZ country. What name were you flying under?
-
Welcome to AH. I was an FA pilot.
I'll be back in game as soon as my home is finished from hurricane Harvey.
-
Wow. Fighter Aces - that brings back memories. :)
TTM - welcome to Aces High. We're mostly normal around here and all come from a wide range of backgrounds and beginnings of MMO flight combat simulations.
Watch out for the sharks though - you can easily identify them as they mostly wear Dr. Seuss hats (and nothing else)...
-
Welcome.
As important as strategy is, getting your settings for your stick, views, gun convergence, and researching performance data on your favorite planes might have a bigger effect on your success.
-
Welcome Aboard. If you need any help, just ask.

Welcome back..... :salute

First time in 10 years my email server crashes....the night I try to sign up for Aces High lmao
I think the last handle I flew under was X-Cal. Was a FR trainer for a bit in AW3. It was a long time ago :)
-
As for stick setup, yeah Ive got a lot of work to do there. I was able to fire up offline for a bit and at least feel the stick and handle...and man it was dreamy.
-
welcome to the nut house

Me, too -- <S> to you fellow member of AWTA! :aok
-
There was never a crowd in FR unfortunately. It always seemed like it was just me amnd Darpa in there for hours dueling lol
-
Turn off your stall limiter if you haven't already. :aok
-
Will do! Going to actually start setting up controls this evening. Hopefully flying some Friday night.
-
One last question, is this the primary out-of-games communication, or is there a public discord server setup?
-
I think most of the regulars like to visit here while relaxing in their underwear.
DO NOT TRY TO PICTURE THAT. :rofl

"last question" that's funny! There are always questions no matter how long you have been here. I still come up with them and I've been here since tour 21!
This is a great place to ask, as well as in game. There is a "help channel" on the radio that all players can see if they didn't turn it off. Don't be afraid to ask ANY question. We have all been there and done that. Asking can help you cut down on the frustration, so ask away!
-
I believe the number one question to date is, "why is it when I hear knocking, my wing falls off"?
-
Welcome to AH.
Keep an eye out for that harmless little M-8 de ackin' a field near you. :D :D
:salute
-
Got a basic stick setup in and flew 3 flights. No kills but had a blast.
-
Remember saturday at 3 pm eastern. For high adventure! :aok

Welcome to Aces High, twistedtechmike !
what is your gameid that you're flying under in the online Arenas?

If you played Air Warrior in the FR Arenas for any length of time, you'll come to find some(if not a lot) of the same players still playing Aces High...a lot of the old Air Warrior FR Trainers are still around as well.... dating from AW DOS days , to AWSVGA to AW4W to AW2 to AW3 and all the AW MAC versions in between ...etc....
There was never a crowd in FR unfortunately. It always seemed like it was just me amnd Darpa in there for hours dueling lol
once Kesmai got GameStorm up and running when they were doing the AW2 beta, the FR Arenas really started to become populated during "BigWeek" and AW3 going live...
it seemed to stay populated from then on until around mid year 2000...
now there's a name I haven't heard in a few Blue Moons..."Darpa".... remember the late nights fighting against him and RM ( Rocketman) and Homer.... along with Whels and Bama and Rapier, Wraithe, Dragn and Claymore in AW4W FR PTO...
hope you enjoy Aces High! ~SALUTE~ & Cheers

And me (“Oldma” in AW FR). Now I haven’t heard from Darpa in lo, these many years. Was in Kansas City in December 2003 and spoke to him on the phone, but we weren’t able to meet. Wonder if we could find him and drag him in here...?

Talk about Blast from the past...I had forgotten all about gamestorm. I remember when Earthlink came around, that was huge for me as far as AW was concerned. I think I played til around '98? I remember seeing alot of those names, included the Damned, and you Oldman. Looking forward to seeing you gents in the air.
As for Darpa, he made me learn to love the 38 in FR. What a damn beast.
-
Great memory twistedtechmike....I can't remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday :devil
Welcome aboard :aok
-
Not really too great...I just spent so many damn hours on the game its imprinted. My short term fades more every year lol
-
What year did you start playing AW?
HiTech

Before AW4W...but not very long before. I was running an ISDN connection at the time to ensure lag free killing ;)
My handle early on was GG1. I had to change it when I changed email and got locked out of it.

Welcome to the nuthouse, TTM. :joystick:
BTW, TC said now there's a name I haven't heard in a few Blue Moons..."Darpa".... remember the late nights fighting against him and RM ( Rocketman) and Homer.... along with Whels and Bama and Rapier, Wraithe, Dragn and Claymore in AW4W FR PTO...
FWIW, Darpa is one of our squaddie's brother (Vap). If anyone can get ahold of him, I'd imagine it's Vap, so if you see Vap online, I guess you can pass on hellos to Darpa, whom I haven't seen in AH since way before the switch to AHIII.
Carry On. :salute
-
Who's to say he'd even remember me lol I do recall seeing some Musketeer macros back in the day too though.

I had left AW by that time.

I feel ya brother! Sort of glad I didnt find this game sooner :uhoh Other wise my kids would probably still be in diapers...wouldnt have had the time to potty train :rofl At least this game is cheapest addiction you could have!
-
Im having a blast even if never getting good shooting angles. And yeah, 2 of the 3 kiddos are in high school now, so im solid. Trying to talk my son into it, but hes an elite dangerous guy.
-
Welcome back home TTM.
<Salute>
Most important thing here in AH is,,,,,,, never join the BISH!
haha
So whats your style? Dogfighting? Bombing? Support? Tanking? Capturing bases? WIN DA WARZ! ? Flying in DA HORDE ?
Flying forever at 30k alt in heavy bombers to kill the Bish ammo factory?
Replace Pipz?
Second most important thing here in AH......

Watched some videos on setting convergence, which cleared some things up for me. Got my first kill this weekend! As for type of player? Love to dogfight, enjoy bombing, but base capture and map winning is what it all boils down to. The first two are just the means to do it. I never really got into the ground game in AW, but at some point I will try it here. I played World of Tanks for a couple years on console, and could run blue/purple, but it was too much of an arcade game. In other words, it was never the same feeling AW/AH3 provides, where every damn flight is an adrenaline rush
