After 4 years away from the game, and 2 weeks back, I am not impressed. Less players and not many changes. I don't have a "Super Computer" to play as I am sure many don't. I remember the days of awn Camping" and it was great fun! I do see some names in here that bring back memories, but it is just not the game it was 4 years ago. Please don't get me wrong, its a great game, but I guess I'm old school and don't like change.
-
Car models have changed, too! And almost every box or bottle of laundry detergent is NEW & IMPROVED!! :old:
-
Improved: the sun doesn't turn your whole screen white.
Not Improved: it's hard to see from dusk to dawn and not very nice to look at during that time.
Improved: no more pointy triangle mountains and some nice clouds
Not improved: too many cloaking devices , err trees and the water is too dark.
Improved: super awesome sound effects like chirping birds, barking dogs and falling wrenches.
Not improved: loss of sound customization and difficult, overly complicated sound pack creation.
Improved: aircraft models keep getting better and better and almost all the ancient ones have been redone.
Not improved: more than 5 years since the introduction of a new fighter.
With the exception of the plane remodeling, I prefer AH2 over AH3.
-
Just saying it seems like there are half the amount of people on the game and tank battles are hard to come by.

It really depends on the map.
Spawn camping is for weenies. :old:
It sounds to me like if you attempt to be better at the game, you might have more fun and success. The game is a bit harder with less players now, but if you know how to get the kills and where to find the enemy. It's still great fun.
-
I am an armor guy, flying is fun, but I love tanks.
-
There's plenty of great tankers in the game. Look for DR7, Mano, Tyfoo, Kilroy, GT101...just to name a few.
-
Oh I know, was killed by them many many times years ago lol. DR7 especially!

Does not take much of a computer to run AHIII.

To run...no, but to have graphics to be competitive in the different facets of the game...no doubt you need a studly computer.
-
There were once people whose only job was to light gas street lamps in the evening, and put them out again in the morning.

Only if you set a pretty low bar for 'studly'
I was running this on an ancient i3-2120 with a lowly GTX 950. Airborne FPS at stable 60 (with just a few goodies off), in tank combat it could at times went down as low as ~30.
And I can not say I wasn't 'competitive' because of my setup ;)

Actually still no. A decent older computer with a mid GPU will run AH great.

Just generalization. That only works if the old computer is attached to a screen with a resolution that was already low end at the time the computer was built.

AFAIK 1920y1080 is still pretty much standard these days.

Welcome back Fritzy :neener:https://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/shocked.gif
Long gone are those titanic tuesdays or GV fights with hundreds of participants :joystick:
Still here(BRO06562) but the old gang is thinning out :O Glad to have you back in the fold :rock
Personally I miss the whole GV ability to enter an AO and operate without anything but a flashing town indicating you are lurking about. It was the authentic feel that kept me around and I just don't really spend much time in game anymore with the unusual creative radar features :old:
The interiors are much better on the plus side :aok

The new dar makes for some great fights.

Ground Detail range effects how far out you can see another enemy GV....if seeing an enemy first doesn't give you an edge...and to max out that setting you need a good computer then my point stands.
Ground detail range used to not work like that, I remember everyone used to set those graphics to minimum to have an advantage.

I was running my puny machine at default range settings. That gave me a (GV to GV) spotting range of ~3.5k. In AHIII, that's much further than most terrains do even give you a clear line of sight. I even had some trouble finding a spot to test these settings on a current MA terrain.
You are absolutely competitive with those standard settings in the MA.

Now if you could just shoot...... LOL that is my problem.

I've been debating a return for years.... I just feel like the time I'd need to spend to enjoy it the way I used to is no longer available in my life as it currently exists. I played this game like an addict. I don't think I'd get much out of flying 6 or maybe 10 hours a month. I really do miss it tho. Some of the best times I've ever had at a computer came while flying 10 hours straight and laughing and horsing around with squaddies. Ho hum... in the next life perhaps. :old:

Why don't you try it? I've enjoyed myself for decades, and I'm not sure I've ever flown that much.

Same for me. Now a days I log maybe 6-8 hours on a Saturday. Have a good time when a few of the squad guys are on as long as we can get a fight going some place.
10-15 hours a month is certainly worth $15 a month for me. Try it, you might agree :aok

I use an Alienware computer I bought in 2011 to play AH. The only upgrade I did was put in a Gfx 970 about 5 years ago and run the game in full settings with my fps at a steady 60.

All this talk of 'my old 'puter plays it fine at..."
MY old puter won't...hasn't really since AH2.....
AND...I AM NOT buying better 'puter. BUT I would pay $15 a month to fly...IF I could...
Guess why I'm not flying...
SOMEONE missed their demographic niche...
Your mileage WILL very...

You can't blame HTC for your not playing if you're not willing to upgrade your computer.

Have you ever bought a new car? New clothes? New shoes? New phone? New furniture?
I really don't get the argument that people don't want to buy a new computer. It isn't like you need anything special to play this game and enjoy it, a few hundred dollars goes a long way.

Anything under 2010 is ancient by today's standards.
-
Classic World of Warcraft is getting a demo in november.
Time to go back in time

Maybe if you play that, you won't come around here anymore...

I like your sig Snailman. That’s my main game now, I am one of the biggest pvp pirate in the galaxy.

I already quit back when tank battles were considered ghey
I am happy to see that tank battles being ghey in themselves is now a valid reason to quit.
HTC are awesome and made the best game I ever played
-
And.... I WOULD play(PAY) If I could...
This game is, SADLY, slowly_______....you, yes you 'buy new purter'...fill in blank.
To ME..$15 a month better be worth it...
I've played long time...
I WISH I could....but I, myself and me have to pay bills, taxes, groceries. I drive a car over 20 years old...I can fix it...I can not fix this game, which I love, dying.

If you only know AH2 you can hardly imagine what VR is like. Virtual reality and 4k monitors are both pretty awesome. :D

Yup, if it can run fortnight or pubg it can run AH no problem.
-

I'm surprised it does even show, I never got Ah related sigs like that to show up in the past. :headscratch:
Maybe a bit intrusive for this forum, though? :noid
-
I dunno bout intrusive. I know I don't understand it (other than it's obviously a very different game than AH).

It's sometimes very similar to AH: Players telling other players on the forums they are playing the game wrong. :old:
