Not what it used to be
« on: September 30, 2018, 03:05:09 AM »
After 4 years away from the game, and 2 weeks back, I am not impressed. Less players and not many changes. I don't have a "Super Computer" to play as I am sure many don't.  I remember the days of awn Camping" and it was great fun!  I do see some names in here that bring back memories, but it is just not the game it was 4 years ago. Please don't get me wrong, its a great game, but I guess I'm old school and don't like change.

Improved: the sun doesn't turn your whole screen white.

Not Improved: it's hard to see from dusk to dawn and not very nice to look at during that time.

Improved: no more pointy triangle mountains and some nice clouds

Not improved: too many cloaking devices , err trees and the water is too dark.

Improved: super awesome sound effects like chirping birds, barking dogs and falling wrenches.

Not improved: loss of sound customization and difficult, overly complicated sound pack creation.

Improved: aircraft models keep getting better and better and almost all the ancient ones have been redone.

Not improved: more than 5 years since the introduction of a new fighter.

With the exception of the plane remodeling, I prefer AH2 over AH3.

Just saying it seems like there are half the amount of people on the game and tank battles are hard to come by.

It really depends on the map.

Spawn camping is for weenies.  :old:

It sounds to me like if you attempt to be better at the game, you might have more fun and success. The game is a bit harder with less players now, but if you know how to get the kills and where to find the enemy. It's still great fun.

There's plenty of great tankers in the game. Look for DR7, Mano, Tyfoo, Kilroy, GT101...just to name a few.

Does not take much of a computer to run AHIII.

To run...no, but to have graphics to be competitive in the different facets of the game...no doubt you need a studly computer.

There were once people whose only job was to light gas street lamps in the evening, and put them out again in the morning.

Only if you set a pretty low bar for 'studly'

I was running this on an ancient i3-2120 with a lowly GTX 950. Airborne FPS at stable 60 (with just a few goodies off), in tank combat it could at times went down as low as ~30.
And I can not say I wasn't 'competitive' because of my setup ;)

Actually still no. A decent older computer with a mid GPU will run AH great.

Just generalization. That only works if the old computer is attached to a screen with a resolution that was already low end at the time the computer was built.

AFAIK 1920y1080 is still pretty much standard these days.
