They must have been playing Aces High Scenarios. :devil

The CGI look dated. Too much lovey dovey in the trailer.... movie will be saturated in it.

Yeah.
I’ll be skipping this. I am sick to death of CGI any way.
This movie will have enough camera cuts to give you epilepsy, too.
-
Well hopefully it'll boost Aces High subscriptions as I seem to recall Red Tails did.
-
This movie was filmed almost entirely with Green Screen on a sound stage in Montreal. Director Roland Emmerich is no stranger to directing bad films. His highest rated film was Independence Day in 1996 with a rating of 64% approval on Rotten Tomatoes.... I'll be skipping this one.

It might be an improvement over the WWF meets history version of Pearl Harbor. The trailer has some of that feel, hut...

But, only Yak3 can take that many 30mm as the P51 did in Red Tails :old:

Well, the Times is reporting they used new research to make the film. Perhaps SHATTERED SWORD made an impact after all.

Those 262s weren't shooting 30mm. The scene where the guy gets HOed by the 262 you can clearly see that the ground crew replaced the 30mm on that 262 with .30 caliber to see if the pilot noticed.

So they were inspired by the new research as well. I wonder how that will impact the love story. ;) Getting serious Pearl Harbor vibes from the trailer.

Based on the trailer, the film will have the beginning with Pearl, then moving onto Doolittle and ending with Midway. This will be vastly different from the original. Mostly due to narrative and the use of CGI. Practically 80 years from the WW2, there is not enough existing WW2 airframes to handle the job of air combat. The use of CGI will create a chaotic battle.
Those who posted that they won't see the film because of CGI, then you won't be a good viewer anyway.

Nonsense. There are more warbirds flying now than ever. (Warbirds. As in former combat aircraft. I don’t need smart panties to mention how many planes were flying in WWII.)
I’d rather see computer duplication of actual footage filmed of existing aircraft than cartoons.

Uh.....okay, whatever the hell that means.

I will see it because I like WWII movies. Dont care if they have a "love story" in it, dont care if they use CGI.... unless they bring back Ja-Ja Bings  I also know that it is impossible to have real aircraft and ships to cover the battles.
"The Japanese attack on Midway involved four aircraft carriers, seven battleships, 150 support ships, 248 carrier aircraft and 15 submarines. The US defense, meanwhile, was made up of just three aircraft carriers, 50 support ships, 233 carrier aircraft, 127 land-based aircraft on Midway and eight submarines."
There are limitations. Some people expect too much whether it be in games, movies or real life.

No, I just expect craft, not cartoons. CGI is a distraction that’s worse than models. FLYING TIGERS was made in 1942 and overall their model work beats modern CGI by a long shot.
CGI makes me feel like I am watching the movie through dirty glasses. #Annoying

What I really don't understand with CGI is, they can literally create anything, and we are so good at picking out movement that's against physics, you'd think the guys creating the tech or the artists using it could do better.
I'm not against CGI, I am just against bad CGI.

Boy oh boy is that not the truth. RED TAILS was horrific the way the airplanes maneuvered. (And the director was so arrogant: “I KNOW what dogfights look like.”)

One of my favorite quotes is, "Ever notice how when you see something in a movie or on TV you are somewhat knowledgeable about, they get a bunch of stuff wrong? They are that wrong on EVERYTHING."
The thing that grinds my gears is, I could see a 1v1 duel in a movie with a rolling scissors being an intensely dramatic fight if it were shot right. Have the two of them going back and forth on who was gaining advantage, maybe with a couple attempted snapshots just missing the other guy going both ways, finally ending in the hero getting a good crossing shot or getting the other guy's tail to put the bandit down.
Instead we get a slowly closing gunsight view on a non-maneuvering opponent, and they don't even pull lead when they kill him, or the kick-flip Indy the guy pulled in Redtails based on Candellaria's story.

It simply amazes me how, given all the options they have with the millions of dollars they have to throw around, they seem to choose the crappiest of all possible outcomes on an incredibly regular basis.

Mostly.
I was watching this show on Amazon call The Expanse. It was a decent show, but I was impressed that kept noticing a lot of little details someone obviously put a lot of thought into it to create a believable, reasonably realistic world. 99.9% of people probably never noticed the little details, but I appreciated their effort and their respect for the audiences intelligence.

DING DING DING exactly.
2001 A Space Odyssey all craftsman and no CGI. An amazing feat and great looks on the big screen.

Yeah. There are exceptions. I just think someone could do better.
I liked that show too for a lot of those little details. Pretty good sci fi. My favorite was the racer kid going through the ring. The ship to ship battles were pretty good too.

Any New film that excites those to the most epic battles in history is OK with me. What we need is a big AH add with the trailer.

Models are still able to deliver a depth of realism that CGI has never matched.

They make movies to to sell to the masses, not a niche group wanting historical accuracy.

You can still achieve the former without needlessly sacrificing the latter, particularly simple physics.

The people creating the CGI aren’t worried about physics, does it look cool to the average movie goers. The average movie also doesn’t understand physics either, so they win.

You're likely right about CGI planes. Airplane specific stuff aside though, the vast majority of things they do with CGI people or animals it acts like generally there's no inertia. People are generally really attuned to the way things move, and when they don't move correctly, it's obvious. Basically it's like the uncanny valley for movement.
It just seems to me if they're going to make a photorealistic cartoon move, it wouldn't take that tremendously much more to make it move correctly.
Gotta admit though, the de-aging stuff they've been doing lately has been pretty good. Not perfect, but it's getting there.

Well, you can't fix stupid. That's why I'll spend my hard earned money on a day at Enchanted Rock instead of this garbage. The Buzzards are amazing fliers.
-
Woot Enchanted Rock.
Will be pulling my RV over to River Road the first of August. Have 3 other RVs coming along for a week on the river.
-
Awesome!
I am hitting the Nimitz Museum today. It has been a few years since I was last there. The Big Rock was great yesterday.
