Then I step in game and when the chips are down I just run from the fight because I am scared to lose because the chicks love points and I need points.

No crying, just an honest fighter pilot type gauntlet challenge. Best thing is if you lose you do not have to pay anything. You are in a no risk position.

But when I do have a working monitor or goggles I anticipate no matter how many times we meet in game or how many times you win and film me you'll still be a hypersensitive soul, Francis. :D

When you go back and watch the original TG - knowing what we know how avionics and weapon systems work, it's very hokey-pokey. Also, the special effects of the F-5 (cough) I mean the Mig-28's are eye-rolling/eye-watering - even for the time.
Regardless, it was a HUGE marketing program for pilot programs around the world. Maybe like Archie said, it'll generate interest in combat aviation again?

Yep - the hardware/hotas makers too, I know Virpil is getting a lot of pre orders for their F14 stick (fits their bases and the Thrustmaster Warthog and Cougars), plus TM has recently released their F18 stick, and WinWing from China has made an F18 Throttle/Stick that is out shortly and selling well by his account already in early/pre orders. Once the film gets closer and opens, they'll see an even bigger uptick IMO, as will many flight sims/hardware companies across the board. I thought the trailer looked great.

Depends on the airplane. Some thrust levers are totally silent, some clunk at the stops (particularly when moved rapidly) or at a thrust setting detent, while others have internal linkages to various things—say a gust lock solenoid for example.
On my primary jet going past Thrust Set (which is how you get to Max Thrust—this is primarily for a non-normal or emergency situation) causes a clicking sound as you go over the detent. It also clicks going the other direction coming out Max back into Thrust Set. On some older jets in order to go into burner one had to go to the Mil Thrust stop then move the thrust lever outboard to go into burner. You would probably CLUNK that.
In movies, generally speaking, it is embellished though.

The air sequences are great, the acting is Jack Reacher in a NAVY flight suit. Still I liked the Reacher movies becasue he didn't talk much and just killed things to death.

Why is Maverick still a Captain?
The new trailer for Top Gun: Maverick that dropped last week was indisputably the white-knuckle thrill ride of the summer, a blur of aerial acrobatics and beach volleyball that made us wonder how we ever lost that lovin' feeling in the decades since we first met Pete "Maverick" Mitchell back in 1986.
But it also made us wonder something else: Why is Maverick still flying combat missions in an F/A-18 Super Hornet as a 57-year-old captain after more than 30 years of service?
We're clearly not the only ones curious as to why Maverick hasn't moved on to other ventures like, say, flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog poo out of Hong Kong. Indeed, Ed Harris' unnamed rear admiral explicitly addresses Maverick's career trajectory in the trailer.
"Thirty-plus years of service. Combat medals, citations, the only man to shoot down three enemy planes in the last 40 years. Yet you can't get a promotion, you won't retire, and despite your best efforts you refuse to die," Harris scowls. "You should be at least a two-star admiral by now. Yet here you are. Captain. Why is that?"
Yes, why is that?! Luckily for Harris and everyone else who's paying close attention, the Navy has answers. Here's what Navy Personnel Command told USNI News of Maverick's circuitous return to the big screen:
The most straightforward answer to have a captain with 35-plus years of service is for the captain to have previous enlisted experience. In the case of Maverick, this scenario doesn't fit with the movie's timeline – Maverick was a lieutenant in 1986.
Another possible scenario occurs if there's a break in service. For instance, perhaps at some point after the famous incident involving MiGs of uncertain origin over the Indian Ocean, as depicted in the first "Top Gun," Maverick left active duty and did some time in the Navy Reserve. Then later, he returned to active duty. With more than five years in the reserves, Maverick could be pushing 37 years in uniform.
The final scenario for Maverick would be if he were retired but retained in service, a scenario that keeps individuals in uniform after reaching their statutory retirement. Generally speaking, cases of individuals being retired but retained are rare, but not unheard of, according to Naval Personnel Command.
So it looks like Old Man Maverick's time in the Super Hornet wasn't just a product of some silly script doctor's imagination. Then again, that's not totally surprising: Paramount Pictures consulted closely with the Navy on the how to keep the production in line with the real-world U.S. armed forces just as much as it did with the original Top Gun, according to the production agreement published by the Washington Business Journal.

That was the old final exam when you received your FAA pilot certificate. They figured that was too easy and now require you to fly in a straitjacket and steer with your toes while using a harmonica to belt out the theme song for "The love Boat" under the expert care of a trainee barber performing a straight razor shave with no shaving cream.
