I like the auto select country, hopefully won't be abused by the griefers.   :old:

I was a big fan of this change.  I note here one of the problems I experienced with it this night.

I logged in, selected the auto-switch function and, when my sortie ended, I was moved to a different side for the next flight.  Over the course of the next few sorties, a nice battle developed between my base of origin and the nearest enemy base.  This is the sort of thing I really enjoy; you get shot down, and like Jack, you re-up and go gunnin' for the man who stole your water.  This went on for several sorties.  Everyone smiled, even bedraggled me.

AND THEN, just as I was scheduled to meet Svaalbar in that zone of operations, I was automatically switched to a different side, far, far away, in another galaxy, almost.  No longer did I have a chance to revenge myself against Weiser, or, for that matter, did he have a chance to collect more Oldman pelts.  Fortunately I was able to meet Svaal on the other side of the map, and another battle developed out of that encounter.  In a way, all was good.

I suppose the lesson is to un-click the auto-switch option once you've found a place you like.  Something for all of us to remember.

Can you enable and disable the auto-switch option to change sides whenever you want to?  At what point does the 6 hour timer start?

You can disable any time but you can not always change country immediately depending if your country was changed immediately when selecting it.

You can always unselect and change country after 6 hours.

Also I am considering a perk multiplier if you have it on for 6 hours. After which you would get double perks.

Might need some kind of incentive.  Was just online where it was 29 v 4 v 11, with no one enabling the "auto country change".

6 hours of time, ie i log out the night before with it on, and get double perks the next day if i keep it on?
I like the idea.. then i can farm perks to use to kill herdlings.

Seems to be working very well tonight.  With about 15-18% of players enabling the auto switch, teams were constantly balanced within 1 or 2.

Can be disorienting though.  Was attacking a field, ditched, and was switched to defending the same field.   LOL.  :D

Was in the triple 8”ers helping to take down a base, ended sortie to up a plane and it put me on the opposing country and the base I was just attacking.

Maybe having country change from a manned gun isn’t a good idea as with the switch I was put at the base I was attacking and able to spoil the time spent by others to WF the town/base etc...

Well, yes.  But that's not the problem.  The problem is that it shows the back of the canopy, not the plane behind me.

If you have found a fight you are enjoying there is a dot command or you could switch it off before ending that sortie and it shouldnt switch you to another team.

This could be done.At the moment I don't see any way of exploiting it.

Also if implemented it would simply turn it off so it would act exactly as if you turned if off just prior to flight.

Enabled the auto switch. Switched back to Knights when sides were close to even. Later tried to switch to the the low # side and said I have to wait 6 hours.

Wasn’t the point to be able to switch to low side #’s at any point?

As I understand it...not quite!

If you leave the auto switch on, you'll bounce back and forth UNTIL you do as you did, and exit the auto switch so as to choose a specific side.  At that point you're back to the six-hour rule.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

the code decides the low number.  may take a couple of fights but it does.

If you switch manually, you have to wait 6 hours. That is my understanding.

Pros:
Teams are pretty much even.
Nice to see some "enemies" flying on our side and hearing new voices.
Seems an increase in new players too, somehow...  :headscratch:
Lots flying EW/MW planes.
Constantly changing dynamics in the fights.

Cons:
Maps are stale and barely change for hours on end.
Way too many perk rides in the air.
Players from other teams landing on your squad comms.
Finding players you were just winging with on your six.

Seems with some tweaking this could be a great thing.

The map on today was never reset quickly, id bet it goes 7 days if allowed.  At the end of the day, its too big for this game either way.

While i would rather be flying along side of you, and players of your calibre, i also found myself fighting the likes of you all this weekend, and enjoyed the hell out of it.

Id call it a win, lots of players enjoyed it.  I feel it brought AH back to its roots a bit.

Be part of the solution, not the problem.  Seeing a lot of vets depending on F4U-4 and 262, can’t complain if you’re going to be one upping those.

Yep, both. Saw more 262s and Tempests today than I have in a while. Also lots of Hurri 1s and delicious targets like that.

I wasn't complaining, Tex01. Just pointing it out as a "con".

FWIW I flew an Ahog all weekend except for my last couple of sorties tonight as the circumstances called for it (read: getting my butt kicked)

You know funny thing .... I turned on Auto Balance before logging off one night. When I logged in auto balance made me a bishop, 10 minutes later It changed me to rooks and noticed the rooks where hiding a carrier way off at the edge of the map behind bish bases and the bish owned the port .... auto balance switched me back to bish. I was nice enough to log without saying anything. But I have to ask ....

WTF was the point of the 6 hour country lock ..... Oh ya to stop spying!

I'm just going to call it .... this community is asking for and cruising to a well deserved Darwin award .... I need to learn to not give a crap, maybe I can cut back on the Protonix.

A fair point that it's going to upset the generals.  On the other hand, the air-to-air fights have been very good.

Played several hours today, much improved gameplay. There was a good fight to be found at at least two bases constantly. Best improvement to the game I have see  as far as fair gameplay!! Well done Hitech PS there were 180 ppl on when I left all perfectly balanced.

I had a blast.
First time in a long time, players devoted to fighting rather than real estate. Saw lots of p40S/Hurri and Spit 8/9s.
Hope HTC can continue with the perk bonus. Perhaps tax the 262s/B29s and maybe temps.

Was a huge success. Was fun flying with the community and not just the same ol chess piece. I do agree that the downside is that maps will get stale and would be frustrating if stuck on buzzsaw/pizza. Perhaps a time limit of 2 days if map not won.

Congrats HTC. Making AH great again  :rock

I think some people that had the auto-team switch on and got quite a few perk points this weekend....

Well, I was in the mood for a low-alt bombing run on a town in b24s from a Rook base to a Knight base.  Little did I know there was a big 262furball fest there. I think there were four 262s (all enemies) trying to hunt down Cmex in his 262 and my friendlies were either shot down or went home. Oh, and I was like 6k alt....

At least I got a building and two guns down...

I was laughing my butt off as soon as I saw the second 262 con at 5.5k out. I was like... these are all duces.... I'm so dead! Seeing 4 duces taking passes on you was fun.

When you can do a few sorties in a Spit 8 or whatever and get 200 perkies in an hour or so... I havent seen these many duces at this low alt without some kind of event or duel set up. Was fun!

If you haven't done it already, try disable shadows, reflections, pilot mesh, and post lighting.  And set environment map slider to "none".  One other thing to try is, when you first start the game, go into video settings and set texture size to 1024 instead of 4096.

What does changing texture size do exactly?

Most of time I can get 59/60 FPS but when I use the mic or shooting (only in a plane) it will freeze up for a couple seconds at times.

Sorry for the late post -- didn't see question until now.

I don't think it will do anything to your situation unless you have a low amount of graphics memory, but you could try it and see.

I recommend lower texture size for folks with less-capable graphics setup just in case it helps.  I'm not expert enough to know exactly how and when it affects graphics speed.
