Title: Players that are gone but not forgotten.
Post by: Dichotomy on July 31, 2022, 04:16:46 PM
So what are some memorable names from the past that stand out to you?

Daddog (332n'd Flying Mongrels) first squad I joined and full of just damn good guys.
Stampf (JG 11) got to be his wingman.  On of the finest commanders in the history of ever. He actually posted that I was his best wingman ever months after I left the game.  It may seem silly but it meant a lot to me.
Skyrock.  his acerbic humor and wicked tongue on the boards were always worth reading.  The best part is when he put his name on something he was right 99.999% of the time.
Murdr.  Dude was a beast but such a class act all the time.  'how the hell did you do that?' 'oh let me show you'.
INK.  Still a dear personal friend to this day.  Got my first two and only tats I'll ever get from him.  And that diddlyer slaughtered me like a new born baby seal every time he saw me.
Shifty.  Dude had a passion and a love for the game.  Taught me more about ACM than anybody else and how to focus on paying my knowledge forward.  Class act all the way.
Widewing.  Another font of knowledge.  When he posted I read with interest because I knew I was going to learn about something new.

Couple of mentions because I can't remember their in game handles.

John the mechanic.  Dude has helped out of more car problem jams than I can count.  Guess that's why I forgot his handle.

Dr. Dave.  GI.  Literally saved my exes life when he suggested her problem may be crohns and turns out it was from 1300 miles away.  So class a dude.  I HATED asking him for advice but I was desperate when she weighed 85 lbs, couldn't walk, and in ICU constantly.

I know I'm missing out on several but those are the ones that leap to mind at the moment.

The one that always comes to mind whenever I am online is CPTDell. He passed back in 2013 but my memories of being a young high school kid, logging on during a snow day to drive 3 hours to down a base are still fresh. Those sorts of memories will always stick, even if I never met him in person.

When I had enough perks for my first b29 flight he took the maiden flight with me and Frodo and I forgot who was the other 51 escort it was one of our free non German plane flying nights that this happened. I have to tell ya Vilkas had a great time with the amount of ammo he had to shoot bad guys down with!

Starts with a great leader though. Good to see you still kicking around.

Thought you might appreciate this.

Last FSO Rider was flying with us. Twice he was separated from us and had an LA5 chasing him. He reversed them and killed them both. Then I hear a laugh and "I still got it"! Was great to hear him having fun. Although he did say you got him into this when he was 12. Bunch of us are like WTF.  :old: :old: :old:

Thats great Ron!  Yeah no one ever knew how young he was when I got him strapped in.  He told me he's been doing FSO with the gang when able.  Thats great!  Miss all you guys.

His younger brother just became a father too!  I really am old.  Yeah Walter would be top of my list if I was still in game as well.

I went hey hun Vilkas wants to talk to ya and she would put my headset on and talk to him. Great Guy all Around............

All time Hero of Mine I have to find it again but he sent me a Picture of Himself when he was a Boyscout long before the War

This is a sad thread Ive had to catch up on. Widewing, Tex, Sky, Mudr, Dave, Vega "I flew some missions with 91'st", ET, of course Wasp I knew about, Pip, Alaskn, DR7, Vilkas, Whels, wolf, To many names I remember either flying with or against. I almost joined them myself a few years ago but by Gods grace will be staying on the ground for awhile. I hope.

Its good to still see some old names still around. :salute

I knew how young he was,we share a common birthday and that’s why I always remembered his. Mine was just 30 some odd years before his.

So do they call you grumpy gramps these days?  Congrats.

Flackfud
wasp3

Flackfud was my brother.  I turned away from Aces High II after he passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm.  I was Sincraft then..
We played together rather religiously.
His son was just about to turn 6 then, he is now 16...My nephew knows how so ski rather well, is in the band (but hates it), almost an eagle scout, is learning to drive, has a girlfriend (that no one approves of, of course...), is almost as good as a gamer as me at FPS's (ok he's better...slightly!), and has no idea about this game his father played.
Flackfud and I attended the Dayton camp ground gathering (although we stayed in a hotel and got slammed and shot pool after visiting / drinking with people at the camp ground).

BTW he pronounced his name Flack Food. As in "I suck"  Everyone called him Flack Fud.  :)  He was "Groundfeeder" for a long time as well.  His son is known as GroundFeeder JR, but he has taken on some other names.

If there is a God, I hope to see my brother again, and hold him in my arms and tell him how much I appreciated his help through my 20's...if anything to reassure me and throw me a 20 here and there to help me get by.  Im doing goodish now.  Family, house, cabin, cars, spending tons of money on crap...  Id do anything to see and play with my brother one more day.

This community was great..and yet my brain cant recall many of the names.  Maybe intentionally.

I wish you all the best. I doubt I would give it another go.  I can't hear "check six" without sobbing...

I'm sorry for the loss of your brother.  I lost one also who played along side me in Air Warrior and Aces High.  I found peace over time immersing myself back in the game remembering the good times we had.  I hope you find your peace and wish you the best.

Vega happened to be near my first ever dog fight. I pulled some goofy double Immelmann out of my bellybutton and got the kill. He chimed in immediately saying how impressive it was. I was so chuffed but I had to come clean and tell him it was an accident lol. He was super helpful to me from then on.

He must have passed after I took an extended break from the game. Wish I hadn’t now.  :salute

I am also a bit mad/sad I missed the AKAK memorial flight as I didn’t get home in time. Any video of it?

Prior to our loss of ET37, a real life B-29 pilot, was the loss of his wife, Barbara. He posted, "Thanks to all who prayed for my wife! Thanks for being a friend when I needed someone <S>" The reply's, per a couple of screen shots I took, came from A8Cole, soulhntr, BAD1050. 27th, myself (HB555), MrCrowly, Oysters, bortas1, Fugitive, jetty, Nuker69, AKnot, airjer, SNIPER30, Nishizwa, Kabam, Jedi, 77Splat, Hetzer, cutlass and BudGray. Those are just the guys I caught with two screen shots. It wasn't long after Barbara died that ET37 followed her. How many of those guys are still around themselves?

Some of us are still around. I hear from bortas and Jedi on a squad thread now and then. A8cole, 27th MrCrowly, myself, airjer still play. The others I havent seen or heard from in a while.

Most of us are getting up there in years. Some of the old "squeekers" are starting to come back now as their kids have moved out and they are looking for something to keep them selves busy with.

Some of the people we have lost have gone way too soon. Younger than me which scares the crap out of me sometimes. Im glad I have my wife harping on me to keep moving eat better and not drink so much..... well I dont listen to her on the drinking as much as the other stuff  :)

Fair winds to all!

:salute HB!  SKDenny and several of our squad (SkyKnights) participated in ET missions whenever possible.  It was so much fun listening to the practiced radio chatter with that long southern drawl the two of them had.  I wish I had saved some of those films  :cry

That's what I've heard from friends close to him like Ttiger81 back in 2012. He was dealing with severe drug addiction to oxy and suicidal thoughts. Also a major craving for cookie dough.

I'm not how it was missed before, but TgrDoc is added to the Memorial (https://vbfbearcats.wixsite.com/memorial) now.

I believe I have all of The Damned (https://vbfbearcats.wixsite.com/memorial/the-damned) information correct, but if anything is wrong I'll get it fixed.
TC always helped make sure things looked right after the site had to be re-homed 3 times, gonna do my damndest to keep it all correct.  :salute
