There I was at 26,000 feet in the B29s when whammo an 88 got me. I rolled in to kill a VH and whammo an 88 got me. I think since they have no problems killing perk planes, When you kill them, you should at least get a kill message on who was in the gun if not additional perk points. As Elvis would say thank you very much

Agreed. The fact that gunners cannot be killed, making AA guns have a flawless K/D is ridiculous. It's a one way battle and it's incredibly frustrating. Gun squatters get it too easy, this is an air combat game, not a shooting range!! :furious
-
this is an air combat game, not a shooting range!!
Exactly..... so why are yall attacking a base? :rofl
-
Manned guns are the handicap parking for AH...
If you can't fly a fighter, bomber or crawl around in a gv...you can man gun.
And yes they need to be perked as one 88 was not able to do what some can do with it here...kills the other forms of game play

Because that's where all the flak huggers are at. :noid
I will say there's been some good mid-high alt fights lately, last few major battles I've shown up to have been in excess of 10,000 feet by the time I arrive in my Mossy. :airplane:
-
Next people will be wanting the terrain to be perked since it has an excellent K/D ratio :devil well do the manned guns have a perk value at least?
-
I think a lot of those guys in B17s and B24s over Europe wished the German's would've perked and nerfed the 88 aswell.
-
Always annoyed me in a player vs player game, the manned ack wasn't a scored and kill counted category. It just gives folks a safe place to hide, with no gain or consequences for success or failure.
-
I'd like to see them gone entirely. They're nothing but an annoyance to the few folks left actually dogfighting. Or as some do, a risk-free way to get revenge on the guy that just shot you down. I guess I shouldn't JUDGE people's motivations... :bolt:

I SEE what ya did there :devil

You all talk as though anyone can just jump in a Deck gun position and start dropping planes out the sky. It's not as easy as that. Takes practice and that's how you get to Carnegie Hall.
The players using the deck guns pay $14.99 just like everyone else.
Whether the rope is new or old people will complain.

I agree. All manned guns should be AI. No reason a player should be able to take the easy way out and point n shoot in manned guns. If I spend 10 minutes to get alt and fly to a base to Jabo, or spend 20 minutes getting alt in bombers to bomb a base. Why should a player be able to lazely get into a manned ack and one ping kill someone who spent all of that time. They have enough trouble with AI puff ack and AAA as it is. Plus the gunner gets all of the reward while the person who spent tons of time gets absolutely nothing for it but a few damage points. We've gone over this for years but Hitech just doesn't get it. Being gunned down by a stupid lazy manned ack only makes the fighter/jabo/bomber want to log off and do something else. Ain't no one gonna stop playing if they can't get in a manned gun.
-
The players using the deck guns pay $14.99 just like everyone else.
The problem is that their $14.99 is devaluing my $14.99, since they're playing a game that I'm not, and that they cannot be defeated in. Their only purpose is to infringe upon my (flying) game. There are plenty of space invader games out there for the folks that can't/won't fly.

I agree. As a scored category.

ya make em killable and scoreable.
I'm all good with the furball and the base taking. Whatevers your pleasure. But going after manned ack should be something that shows up in your score.

you mean vulch.
-
Let's take it further then...... why have GVs in a "Air Combat" game? Take those out too. We really do not need bombers, they do not contribute to the AIR combat...... we really only need one terrain as we will all be in the air fighting...... why.. . Oh never mind......
-

It's all about you huh?
-
you mean vulch.
Vulching still takes time to get to a base and generally requires that you knock out all of the AAA anyway. It's still less lazy than a manned ack. Manned acks hardly prevent vulching anyway. You can also roll a Wirble which is not quite as lazy to prevent a vulch.
-
I know of no other game that you can actively kill other players without putting yourself at risk. It just seems ridiculous. Can you imagine if CoD had incognito gun turrets floating around?

carry rockets, you can kill them from pretty far out with practice.
-
It's the ridiculous accuracy of the manned 88 that ruins any a2a anywhere near a base
The mg's are not much of an issue and can usually be knocked out with the unmanned ack without too much difficulty
The 88 should be AI only imo

Yes, you can take out the guns, but not the player firing them. De-acking fields isn't really what the furballers are looking to do though.

I guess I'm just slow. If you kill the gun, doesn't the player have to move to a different gun? That's no different from if he's sitting in a Panzer IV and you blow it up...is it...?
As for my fellow furballers, if they're going to go that close to an airfield, they ought to expect to get shot at by ack.

Yes, it is different, since if you kill the Panzer you get a kill and he gets a death. There are no such consequences for manned guns which is the point of this thread.
-
Most German 88 gunner hours pale in comparison to gunners here in AH. Same with the people flying. So many hours of shooting will make you much better.

But you can up another tank...... his gun is gone for some time.

So its just like the bomb-n-bailers
they don't get a kill recorded for it. Cuz getting kills means the world. Not playing a game

Even better than radar guided 88's of ww2
They are game killers...add this to large maps and fewer players and it doesn't look good to any new potential subscribers imo

Not quite, oldman. It's a consequences thing. In a PvP game no player should be in a position to be able to kill other players, but not be killed themselves. It's a recipe for frustration.
-
Seeing all the crying makes me want to log into the game and jump in a manned gun.

If an 88 can get a kill killing me in a plane...we should get credit for killing a manned 88. :old:

Crying? That sounds an awful lot like the chants of the most weak minded of ch200 trolls incapable of reasoned dialogue.
As long as you spend your $14.99, I don't think anyone cares if you want to be the manned gun hero doing your best to interrupt people's fun without any consequences. I'd prefer that everyone flies planes in this supposed air combat game, but to each their own, I guess. Either way it would be nice to see you login. It's been a while.
I don't think anyone here has illusions of anything changing, but sharing opinions can at least be cathartic, even with the typical argumentative types dredging up the usual "muh score"... "it's my $14.99" or "waaa" drivel.

I'm not arguing. Lots of players are interested in scores, and we need everyone we can get! But if the manned ack guy doesn't care about KD ratio and that sort of thing, and if the guy who bombs him doesn't care either, things are fine just as they are.
I don't know how difficult it would be for HTC to change the program to implement a you-die-if-you-were-killed-in-manned-ack-and-the-killer-gets-a-kill. If it can be done easily, I'm all for it.
That said, I don't think I'll quit the game for this sort of issue.

I don't get in the 88's that often. I like the 37mm and the big guns on the ships. I like flying planes. I like flying bombers and doing GV stuff. I try to do every aspect of this game and I always have. It's FUN entertainment.
As far as logging in I am at every FSO for sure. The rest of my flight sim time is dedicated to DCS. The UH-1H is a lot more fun than Aces High has to offer. Every now and then I will play melee arena.

Do you get points for kills in a ground gun?
-
Its been pretty bad lately, since i'm overseas I play against low numbers. People will defend in every single manned gun, and then not bother to defend their bases once those guns are down. Its making for easy base captures, but lacking in human interaction.
If I attack in a plane, they'll just defend the base in manned guns again and then up wirbles once those are dead, but then tower as soon as you attack them so they can't die.

Man yesterday I got lucky. Had to defend one base from a Bish CV, then once that was clear I jumped to another base which was being mobbed by a Rook CV. Plenty of low alt dogfighting, I saw a lot of Hellcats and Zeros.
I even got to use that "pee your pants overshoot" you taught me on that day we dueled in Seafires.
F6F Hellcat lined up on my Spit 9's tail, I threw us into a rolling scissors, chopped my throttle, and yanked back on the stick. We spun by each other with only a meter to spare. Maybe less. Still kicking myself for not recording that. :rock

Give a rats behind for a kill score when the 88 is taken out...
I think it should be an inaccurate AI 88 to improve gameplay for the majority of players..all of us in planes especially
It was an a2a game to start wasn't it?
Never has been anything else for some of us...we tolerate the other aspects of the game

I would prefer to fight airplanes, but that seems to be out of fashion. So, might as well bomb GVs. :D

Players in manned guns (37mm, 88s & the occasional 17lbs ers) do not receive any perks for shooting down Planes or Gv's.
You will get perks when using GV guns - Whirble, Ostwind, M16, Jeep, M3 etc and when main gunning.
-
I end up on base defense a lot. Good little fights sometimes. Get 5 or six on a side fights that are fun.
But when the horde arrives with 10 or 15 attackers, defense is overwhelmed to the point that you can't get off the runway...
I get in a 37mm and give them hell.
I'm guilty... :rock
-
What a bunch of sandy-lady-parts-whiners...
A single fighter can de-ack an entire v-base or small field. Who cares if you get kills on guns or not. As a player who happily jumps in the guns to kill vulchers I honestly don't give a damn. And to those guys that can nail me in an 88 I salute you, honestly an 88 kills I get are luck - figuring out a firing solutions beyond 5k is black magic to me.

Cue single handedly defended a base in an 88 with super human accuracy last night...tired of dying in a plane I guess
So much fun miles out and getting popped so I can start the exciting ride back to base...

Currently. The #2 and #3 top killers this month are the ship/field gunners and Wirble. #1 killer is the T34. This is a lazy point and shoot game now. Spending 8 minutes to fly to a base or 20 minutes to bomb, only to get plucked out of the sky instantly by a gunner or wirble, is probably why so many fighter enthusiasts have left the game. It's just not worth the time to play Microsoft flight sim flying back to a field only to die instantly again. This is part of the problem with bases being so far away. Instead of rolling from a back field to defend. They get in a gunner or wirble and take the easy lazy way out. This isn't an air combat game anymore its a tank ground combat game with planes being the support.
-
Those gunners get kills when folks attack the base and die.... even if they never fire a shot. Some just sit in a gun while away from the game.
Stay away from fields and don't let your cartoon pilot die. You can fly in and maneuver. . It makes it harder for them to hit you. You can do what we used to do..... fly to an enemy base and see how many times you can fly inverted through their hanger before one tags you.
-
For that to happen your opponent has to have a spine and actually fly out of his ack umbrella which is why I am there in the 1st place..it is not to take a base usually just to a2a..
Nights as a knight has become boring as sadly neither rook or bish seem to want to fight them and are happy playing by themselves..
This is usually 8 to 9 pm est
Another reason the game should be reduced to two sides and not three imo

My opinion is that if you're in a manned gun and die it should show up against your KTD ratio. Don't want to up and fly? Cool. someone will figure out how to do a low level attack to deack the field before the next wave comes in. It would require a team effort but sometimes those are fun as i recall especially during squad nights.

I imagine if the kills counted, so would the deaths.
-
I'm all for it. Once you enter the arena if you die you die. Learn not to die. I never quite mastered that art LOL. But I also never looked at score. I was here for the fun, the fights, and the camaraderie. Nothing got me jazzed like an FSO, a squad night, or a scenario. Oh sure I'd play in the main mainly the AVA. But for the most part the first three were what I gravitated to and will again soon :)

I for one care because half the time there's only GV and no air cons to attack, and sometimes I just feel like flying a 110 and sending the GVers to the tower.
Why is it so hard for people to wrap their heads around the fact that we just want to dogfight? Any time people like me aren't dogfighting is just because there are no dogfights to be found.

So go into the hosted H2H rooms and dogfight it up.
And let's be honest everyone's opinion of a dogfight differs. Most want to dogfight when they out number someone. A large majority run when they lose the advantage, usually to the base ack/wingman.
If you want a straight up nothing but furball dogfights then go into the DA, host a server, go into a hosted server, show up for Monday night madness, attend FSO. Advertise that you're interested in doing this and then go do it. Like minded folks will probably show up.
This game is a lot of FUN. But with the lack of teamwork and the selfish actions of mostly 98% of the players this game is slowly dying. Most have gone to other games to get their dose of combat gaming action. The teamwork, the looking out for fellow players instead of just using them as bait because your worried about getting your name up in lights and a bunch of strangers possibly telling you WTG on 200 and country chat.

It's actually large maps like BowlMA right now which will stay up for the next 5 days that are killing off the players. No wants to look at huge map with flashing bases and no dar bars. Majority don't even know where to go to find action. You fly 5 minutes to a field only to insta die by ack trying to get somethint going. No one rolls to fight you and you get bored and log. The only players left are strategy players who could give a F less about a fun fight. Just gang with your boys 4 on 1 the single lonely guy who wants to fight and go back to playing with yourselves. You think most will stick around long for that? At least with a smaller map there are areas where fight gets bigger due to choke points and players knowing where the battles are. People want big battles.
I'm glad you are all proud of running off the dog fighters and people who want to play for air combat action. Congratulations! Now we are left with the 40 players who fly B26s at 90k to bomb towns or sit in wirbles shooting towns and watching grass grow. The game would have been much more populated if it was geared toward fighter combat action instead of tanks and large maps that are bare during off hours.

I always try to give weight to opinions on threads like this to the amount of play time of the poster. Do they play a lot, or occasionally. Adjust the weight accordingly.
I went back SIX months. You have 29 sorties in that time. It would be more but you haven't played in at all this tour.

I agree that the large maps dont help, but chasing away mission runners/base takers and GVers is not the answer. HTC started the "Pacific:online" on steam as just A2A and it NEVER took off. Strait A2A is not going to work.
If there are more players running missions the A2A guys can attack those missions and BANG they have fights. The same goes for GVers. Defenders come out to stop the GV attack by dropping bombs and the A2A guys show up to take out the dive bombers and BANG A2A guys have fights.
In the old days, when we had decent numbers that is how it happened and it worked well for everyone. Bombers got to bomb, GVers got to fight GVs and attach bases, dive bombers got to tower out GVs, and FIGHTERS GOT TO FIGHT! Everyone was happy. Chasing away any of those groups is what killed the game.
GV dar was a great idea for the new guys to find fights, but on the other hand the GVers found that it almost pin pointed their locations and along with the trees they left.
Changing the icons for the planes from a dot to plane shapes IDing fighter or buff while making things better for the new guys to find fights it killed the "fog of war" of for many and we lost another group of players. Not to mention it defining what kind of mission vs fighter sweep that was coming in added to more players leaving.
Add to it nothing being done to bring new players back in and we are now where we are.
As for the manned guns, stop going near the fields and they wont be manned any more. There are not ANY fights near the bases, there is only vulching or picking of slow moving aircraft as they are trying to get up. You want a fight? Stay away from the field, give the uppers some time and space to get going and then attack and have a fight. No need for anyone to be in a gun as there will be nobody to shoot at. If you NEED the kills so bad to chase someone into the ack, well, good luck.

I think the original post here was to discuss scoring and functions of a manned gun, not to remove it.

I don't think anyone wants to chase them away, but we've chased away the fighter crowd and they made up the bulk of the #s in the past. While there is that other game. It's not the same, and isn't the same flight model. It's a good one for the younger crowd to get into air combat. IMO the target market isn't really for AH players. People who played AH still like the overall war concept, it's just that big battles for bases was where the enjoyment was for most. I'd say that manned guns are more detrimental to the base taker crowd as they are the ones trying to destroy objects on the field.
My idea of the GV dar was just to have it as 2 more bars under the fighter bars. So it shows that tanks are in the sector, but doesn't show them where they are.
My idea of the fighter radar was simply to make the radar towers harder to destroy like needing 5000 pounds to take it down. Radar was always such an easy target that it was the first thing every side destroyed when they attacked a base. This made it seem like no action was happening to new players. I don't particularly like the dar now where if you are outside of the dar ring and an enemy is near by, everyone on the map sees you. It makes it so people can be-line it to you and gang you. It also does make it harder to sneak up on people. I thought the more simple solution was just to increase the damage of the radar to make it harder to destroy.
I still think removing these large maps for right now would be the single largest impact at retaining players in the game currently. It would keep players in the game longer, thus making the fights bigger. Right now, i just log in, see small dars scattered with 29k B17s and just log right out because there isn't any combat for me or paths to action. Generally when one team is attacking now, the other team just let's them have it with it. The far back fields don't help for defense at all.

Forgive me if your opinion is taken with a grain of salt
You don't play the game..
I don't play the game the way you want me to
I have played enough to know these people's habits. And I really don't care if you take what I say with anything at all. Sometimes the truth hurts no matter who is saying it.

I see airstarts and 4 field terrains coming.
The loud vocal minority got what they wanted but at the price of not having anybody to battle.
